Vent!I get a lot of weird looks when I tell people I'm going to Disney

I started a new job 2 weeks ago. I told them already. I said when you hear we are going AGAIN...now you know why:banana:

At times, the response I get when I say we are going to Disney, is "Oh, we been there once, very hectic, tons of people, couldn't even move it was so packed, saw everything, now we're Disneyed out. Once is enough, been there done that, Could never go back! How could you stand it!"

I just walk away, that kind of person will never understand.

I always say to people who say that...you mean you don't know about the DIS board????:lmao: I thought everyone knew about the DIS boards:worship: ....too funny when they don't have a clue what your talking about!!:rotfl2:

I always hear the same thing, "Why, do you always go to Disney?". We started to go when my son was three, and my daughter was two for her first trip. We started going every two years, and then every year, and now it is two to three times a year. DS is now 24 and DD is almost 21. We will be there in Jan. 09 along with DD's Boyfriend. Most people don't bother to ask us anymore, but do seem to wonder why, they just don't get it. Always something new, yet we love all of the same. There is nothing like Disney. I also have to plan trips and tell people everything I know about Disney.

My co-workers are going to be astonished when I tell them I am about to stop going to Disney World. Or at least only go about once or twice a year. They're used to me going every month or so.

I can definitely relate to this topic. Several months after our first trip to WDW I was still on a Disney high and was already in the early planning stages of our next trip. A coworker questioned why I would want to go again since WDW is childish. I actually felt a little sorry for her at the fact that she didn't get it.

Well, that was over four years ago. I wish I would've done it sooner but I'm thrilled to say that I just bought into DVC on Friday!:teeth:

Just very politely ask them why they care where you go on vacation? It helps if you look just a bit puzzled when you ask.

I have found that generally results in a change of subject (by them). :teeth:

I like that response , going to have to give it a try next time someone asks.

So I work in a lawfirm...

Whenever anyone asks me where I am going on vacation, I say Orlando. Everytime someone says "what's in Orlando?" When I say well we enjoy going to Disney and they always want to know oh why are you going to Disney, you don't have kids, why don't you want to go overseas somewhere or to a place for adults.

Sorry. Vent over. I just needed to get it off of my chest because its been driving me nuts.

Its very simple. They don't get it, we do!!!!!!!

WDW is the only place my familys together. We are all home right now but not together. I'm downstairs on the DIS Board the DW is upstairs watching something spooky the DD is on the net or watching some teen show. At WDW we are together it the best quality time we have as a family. And yes people think were nuts.

What bugs me is when we come back from a Disney vacation, no one even bothers to ask how it was...how rude...I always ask people how their vacations are, even if it's just to the local campground for the 20th time that summer. I honestly think they are just jealous.

Plus, there definitely are 2 types of people - those who "get it" and those who don't...I don't really like people who don't.:sad2:

 This next trip I'll put the DVC Dream book on the end of my desk. If anyone cares to ask where I'm taking vacation, I'll tell them to open it to AKV/VWL/SSR :wizard: I love the Dream book because it says nothing about the theme parks... it's all about the resorts. Maybe then they'll get it? :confused3

"You're going to Disney AGAIN??" We've all heard it. My boss pulled that one on me a couple of years ago, and I politely responded that she goes to the same place in the mountains on the same week in fall every year and I have never said, "you are going to the mountains AGAIN???"

I hear the same thing from people who go to the same beach every year. I've just quit telling people at work that we are going to WDW, except for a select few. On the other hand when I talk to other Disney friendly friends we can't talk about it enough.

We get weird looks also and people can't believe we go again and again. We go every year for F & W and sometimes we go 2 -3 times a year. We bought DVC specifically for F & W. We now have a child who is 8 months old and we are headed for F & W but not taking her since we are celebrating our 15th wedding anniversary! However, we are taking her and both sets of parents in December.

I get that ALL the time especially when you don't have children people think you are strange. I say Florida or Orlando too, unless someone keeps asking than I say Disney World. I was at a lounge at WDW with my brother and we started talking to this guy and I told him I was a DVC member he asked how many kids I had because he assumed that's why I would have a ownership.
I told him adults love Disney too.

I'm 36 and DH is 37, he has gotten tired of going to I mainly go with my family or friends, or if he goes we rent a car.

I agree with those who said it's because some people just don't get it.

I used to explain to people how much we love it and what we get to do there and that my family cannot think of any other place we'd like to vacation. And at that point, I always get the weird looks...like I'm completely nuts. So I learned a lesson, I don't even discuss it. Although, when people find out we are going on vacation, they usually say ... "Disney again?" and I just say "yes" and leave it at that.

We used to get lots of comments when we went once a year....."don't you get tired of it every year?"...then when we started going twice a year...all we get from our family is :  :sad2:

So, you can see why we don't bother discussing it. At first, I thought that they are just jealous, but I realized that they are just clueless. They don't know how much fun it is. They all have been once or twice, but felt that that was it for a long time. :confused3 :confused3 To each his/her own, I guess.;)

I also work in a law firm, but a few miles away in DC. I totally understand this because it happens to me. And I'll just say that in my situation, it has nothing to do with the other lawyers being "jealous" of my trips to Disney World. A number of my colleagues truly do not understand why in the world anyone with no kids and plenty of coin would ever want to spend a vacation at Disney. It's viewed as tacky and low class (unless you have kids, and then it's cute). Trust me, it has nothing to do with the expense. The average profit-per-partner at my firm is well over a million dollars a year, so they're not hurting for cash. Associates are also paid well enough to do some globetrotting (which is what most of them tend to do).

Some of the attorneys like Disney so I can tell them I'm going down there and not have to listen to the white noise from the ones who don't understand. It's not that the comments bother me (we choose to go to WDW because we want to and I'm not sorry for it) I just get annoyed at having to field them.

I appreciate some of the advice in the thread, but the people who give me a hard time about Disney yet spend two weeks a year at the beach are in a slightly different situation. Take out "Long Beach" or "Jersey Shore" or "Ocean City" and insert "my beach house in Costa Rica" or the villa in Malta or the South of France. It's pretty ridiculous the kinds of things these guys have and it isn't worth trying to get into a peeing contest. I've gotten to the point where I just don't talk about vacations.

You're not nuts, just diseased like the rest of us :thumbsup2 !!!!!

I've been going since I'm a kid, converted DW who went 2 times before we got married (has now been 16 times in 8 years), and now my 4 yo princess: can tell me from France and Morocco where I need to go to take her on the Donald Duck boat ride!!! (Yes, she's brainwashed, too, it worked!!!) She even goes so far as to tell us what the next 6-10 rides are that we will go on next (all of Fantasyland :rotfl: )

Don't worry about co-workers getting it...I don't get a lot of things other folks do!!! I get Disney, and apparently Disney gets me b/c I keep going back!!!

Actually everybody is postive about it. Especially this time it will be hubby and I for the Food and Wine Fest. I kids are older and dont want to go this trip.

Tell them "If I don't get back soon, I'll lose my place in line"

or

4 theme parks, 2 themed water parks, 5 golf courses, 200 restaurants, miniature golf, a NASCAR track and a minor league baseball park and that's just what's on Disney property.

We're also childless Disney-Nuts! DH hates the beach (I know and yes there is something wrong there) and he's not big on "relaxing" vacations. He likes to go and see and do and there is no better place than WDW. My boss doesn't even ask anymore....she knows I'm going to Disney. People go where they like. We have friends that go to the beach every year and DH can't understand that one!

I can relate to this thread! I try to skirt the issue and just say I'm going to Florida. I certainly haven't mentioned to any co-workers that DW and I are strongly considering DVC. No way they'll understand two DINKs (dual income, no kids) wanting to be able to go to WDW even more often!
