Vent!I get a lot of weird looks when I tell people I'm going to Disney

Jealousy!! Drives people nuts. We typically don't tell people anymore when we are going to Disney because it stirs up too much drama, especially when its the 3rd or 4th time in one year. However, when you own DVC and buy the annual pass, it's cheaper to goto Disney then to rent a house at the beach.

My father and I have a long-running feud on this same issue. Every time I plan another trip for our family to WDW, my dad kind of sputters and says "Again! There are plenty of other places in this world to visit!" I in turn point out that my children have also been to San Francisco, Cape Cod, and we just finished our first DVC vacation to Disney's Hilton Head Resort. What makes this whole argument especially amusing to me is that growing up, our family vacations used to consist of road trips to Michigan, Wisconsin or Missouri -- I was 25 years old before I ever travelled out of the Midwest, and that was on a business trip to New York City.

To each their own.

Tell me you're going to go sleep in a tent in the forest, and pee and poop in a hole you dug for the next week or so, and you'll get a funny look from me too with the mandatory question.... Why? And you'll say "are you kidding... we love it".

:upsidedow

I agree with all the responses to this issue.
In some ways, I feel sorry for the ones who don't "get it." It's not that I think Disney is perfect, it's just that our family finds it a fun place to visit...more than once! Our kids are now 14 and 16, and not that into family time. But our trip last August was the best...we spent a whole week together, from the quality time in the car (2 days each direction) to the 7 nights in the hotel. Yes, it was hot, and more crowded than I've ever seen the parks (and we always go in August). But we still had a great time, and every day there were lots of things that we could all do together. (There's nothing like waiting an hour for Soaring to get teenagers to interact with their parents:rotfl: ) When we tell people about our trip, many question us about going "again," and now we get questions about bringing kids who are perhaps too old (!).

My husband and I enjoyed Disney World before kids, and look forward to going in the future without them, too, no matter what others might think!

So I work in a lawfirm...

Whenever anyone asks me where I am going on vacation, I say Orlando. Everytime someone says "what's in Orlando?" When I say well we enjoy going to Disney and they always want to know oh why are you going to Disney, you don't have kids, why don't you want to go overseas somewhere or to a place for adults.

Sorry. Vent over. I just needed to get it off of my chest because its been driving me nuts.

I get the same thing from my family when it's just me and DH going.

I always start by telling them that Walt Disney World is a massive vacation COMPLEX. With over 20 hotels, 160 restaurants, shopping, nightlife, world class golfing, boating, and tons of other stuff. That you could EASILY spend a week at WDW and not even step foot in a theme park.

Then I tell them that I don't wanna do any of that cause I love the Theme parks and even with a 10 day vacation, I don't feel I get enough time there. Of course I have kids... but that doesn't explain the week long trip I took with DW, LEAVING THE KIDS BEHIND, to go to MNSSHP and Universal's Halloween Horror Nights. Not to mention the Epcot Food and Wine festival... ooooh how I miss it!

I think the last time I checked no one pay's for our vacations but us, so unless they want to contribute they don't have a say in where we go. Enjoy your vactions that's why it is called a vacation.

We get it all the time ..... I just ask them when was the last time you spent 10 days without driving a car or getting a phone call? Our best friends didn't understand why we go to Disney so we took them in 2006, guess whos going with us this December and buying their own DVC. ;)

I LOVE IT! Can I borrow that line?

I'm flattered. Use it to your heart's content! :thumbsup2

Occasionally, I still use that phrase on the "sour grapes" people at work. It takes the wind out of their sales PDQ better than any other I could come up with.

We used to get that, but now most everyone knows (family, neighbors, DH's work, friends, school) that we go alot and after years people have finally started accepting it. :lmao:

Yep, Shan, that's us too!

My mom and siblings don't understand why I like DVC/Disney and keep asking why we keep going back. I point out that none of then asks me why I visit them in Buffalo each year, so why ask about my Disney visits. Could it possibly be that I limit my visits to Buffalo to 1 per year (in July) and visit Disney 3 times a year (and typically for more days per visit)!:rotfl:

At times, the response I get when I say we are going to Disney, is "Oh, we been there once, very hectic, tons of people, couldn't even move it was so packed, saw everything, now we're Disneyed out. Once is enough, been there done that, Could never go back! How could you stand it!"

I just walk away, that kind of person will never understand.

My Dh and I have been getting REALLY weird looks when we tell people we are going to WDW in November for our 15th year anniversary-without our kids:scared1:. All I know is we CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!

BOY do I ever understand this VENT!

I get all this and more from my coworkers as well, and same as so many of you...when it comes time for there vacation ideas who do they come to and ask all there Disney Vacation ?? too?
Last week one of the girls I work with asked me how DW and I do it twice a year? Told me how her and her husband "Looked at the Disney site last night" and priced there vacation and it was "$10,000" how can I afford to go?:scared1: :scared1: NOW I'm no Travel Agent but WOW...I repriced it for her while she watched in a suite, They have Triplets 6years old, Dining plan hopper pass's in April 09 7 days $3300.00! AND even after saving her almost $7,000 I STILL GOT THAT DANG LOOK!!:confused3
Its been said many times on here and will no doubt be said again some ppl just "do not get it".
But they go to Destin Fl every year and can spend $7,000 on a beach house for 7 days and thats OK? AUGHHHHHHHHHHH

Get a blissful but faraway look on your face, and breathe, "Because it's the best!"

That'll leave 'em wondering what kind of cult you've joined, thus discouraging any further questions.

If they do ask again, you can expound on the greatness of a Disney vacation to them, ad nauseum. Anyone that frequents this board can easily keep it up for a long, long time. After the fourth or fifth hour of non-stop Disney boosterism, your victim will likely have learned his or her lesson.

LOVE IT :lmao: People now come to me with ?s on Disney

My DH's side of the family are all Dis Lovers too but my side just doesn't understand. They don't want to "waste" their money because their kids are too young to "remember" the experience.

I am curious to see what people's experiences are when they told friends and family when they bought into DVC. Someone I didn't like much anyway, "blasted" me for buying into DVC saying it was a waste of money

We took our 2 kids when they were little and we kept getting the " they won't even remember it" line all the time. Lets just say that all the pics I have when they saw the characters for the first time are PRICELESS.:yay: :yay:

Yes, I get the same thing. I usually say that I am going to Florida. Then if they press, I state that we are going to Disney. If they further press, I inform them that we are Vacation Club owners.

My coworkers realize that I am a Disney geek, but I think that I may have one that coworker that is interested in the Kool-Aid.

Why should anybody care what anyone else thinks about their vacation choices??? I could care less if anyone else approves of or agrees with my choices. Anyone bothered by people making ignorant and unwelcome comments should either ignore it or let the folks know their opinions aren't wanted. Then, smile & go about your business - and hold your tongue when those people spend their vacations visiting in-laws or sitting on the couch at home :happytv:

There's one guy at work who thinks I'm crazy. Meanwhile he spends thousands preparing for and attending Burning man every summer. :rotfl: (for those who don't know, burning man is a rally-type event held in the middle of the desert in August every year - bring your own food, water & lodging hehehe) Yup - I'm the crazy one.
