VENT - How do I kill another day (or more) in an apartment full of boxes?

ARGH! Ok, this is a pure and simple vent, because I can't actually yell at the people that need yelling at.

So, we bought a house with a closing date of March 30 (tomorrow). We never had any indication that our mortgage shouldn't go through on time, and have been in constant communication with our agent, the title and escrow person, and our contact at the mortgage company. As of last week, everything was going through perfectly. The mortgage company said they needed proof of insurance by Thursday, DH sent it on Tuesday, the contact person acknowledged receipt and said that the documents would be going to the escrow company.

We should have heard from the escrow company on Friday to schedule a signing on Monday. Didn't happen. Our real estate agent chased them up on Saturday and they said they hadn't gotten the mortgage documents yet, but should have them Monday morning. It's is now 4:00 PST on Monday and the mortgage company still hasn't even SENT the mortgage documents.

If the mortgage company KNEW we were closing on Tuesday, why would they still be working on the documents at end of business hours on MONDAY!!!???

I wouldn't be so annoyed if I hadn't have taken this week off of work so that I could attend the escrow signing today, get the keys tomorrow, and begin to move into the house (U-Haul is scheduled for Saturday) and preparing the house for our stuff. I have Comcast and a furniture delivery coming on Thursday. I need to paint the laundry room (grass green - I've always wanted a grass green laundry room!) before the washer/dryer are delivered and installed on Friday. And I have blinds to install before we move in on Saturday, so I don't accidentally flash the neighbors while changing. :scared1:

And what am I doing today? And tomorrow and possibly for the rest of the week? Sitting on the couch and watching daytime court TV, amongst my sea of boxes and wrapped furniture.

*sigh* Ok, so it could be worse, but I'm just so frustrated. Is this normal for closing to be pushed back due to essentially incompetence? Did I make a mistake by assuming that closing would be on time, and taking the time off of work? What do I do in an apartment full of boxes, with no car (DH is taking it to work so that he can run to the bank to get the cashier's check for the down payment as soon as we hear that we can), and in the pouring rain?

Well, at least you have the DIS. ;)

Our closing got pushed back a week because of an incompetent mortgage broker. I still hate that man. Anywho - we ended up doing a No-Doc loan just to get in the house and I couldn't wait to refinance it. So it does happen.

Maybe Google some yoga moves to relax? Good luck! :)

I hate to say it (and I can't believe it!) but I'm bored with the DIS. :rotfl: I've been browsing the Community, Budget, and all the trip planning forums all day, and reloading the WISH Events/Competition board (my primary forum!) every 20 minutes or so. :lmao: I just need someone to start another refillable mug or ECV argument. :rotfl2:

Glad to hear that eventually everything worked out for you. I'm just so annoyed that there was NO indication that everything was not going according to schedule until we didn't get a phone call on Friday.

The yoga thing wouldn't be a bad idea, if my mat wasn't already packed! :lmao:

I actually kind of liked it when we were packed and ready to move out of our last house to our current one. It was sort of like camping out at home. We found it a good excuse to eat lots of take-out and use paper plates since ours were packed. We also didn't do much housework for a week or so since we were going to do a big cleaning when everything was out. We spent the week before the big move taking our breakables (like our framed Disney cels) to the new house. The movers took everything else on Saturday.

Just think of it as an adventure! Rent some movies, get some fun take-out and relax. Soon enough, you'll be unpacking in your new house.:)

First of all, hugs! You need lots of them!:hug::hug::hug::hug:

I went through this with a friend of mine about a year ago. She and her husband were in the process of buying a home and I didn't think it would ever happen due to the mortgage company, even though they were pre-qualified, kept within their range and paid over 15% down. Their real estate agent was wonderful and kept on the mortgage company. The company faxed the documents to the lawyer's office about 15 minutes before the closing started and would not explain the delay. :headache:

I agree with previous posters. Pretend you're camping at home. Use the good paper plates and napkins!

Hugs again!
