Vent! Easter gift from neighbors

What a nasty neighbor.
You know, I'd be really PO'ed if I did something nice for my neighbor only to find out they came to vent about it on a message board. It was an oversight. Maybe she even forgot your son got braces.

Gee thanks for the insult:rolleyes1

Considering we have been talking about how he is adjusting to it at the bus stop for the last two weeks, how much pain he was in etc, I dont know how she could have forgotten he had braces;) Plus it is pretty obvious, just look at the kid!

I guess I assumed everyone knew about gum and braces. I never chewed it when I had braces and YES I would have thought of it if I bought something for someone. I have learned something new.

I have a DNiece who has allergies, I dont buy her stuff she cant have.

Just to clarify, I mean "what a nasty neighbor" towards your neighbor in a sarcastic way. My smilies weren't working.
But I still think it's sad that you're venting about something nice someone is doing for you.

I never had braces, but knew gum was not allowed. I had friends with braces who chewed gum?? Different folks, different strokes!

Really? I guess I thought that gun being a no-no everyone knew.
So maybe your neighbor didn't have braces. This isn't something I would expect every single person to know. Come on, really? This woman's world doesn't revolve around your son. She did something nice for your children, you need to get over it.

I never had braces, nor did my Sis so I wouldn't know what the restrictions are.
I'd guess caramels, maybe? I didn't know that gum was necessarily verboten, or that certain kinds of gum were OK.

I really think you are overreacting. She was doing something nice for Heaven's sake. It's possible she has other things going on in her life too and your son's braces were not the first thought on her mind. I doubt she did it to be cruel. Maybe you guys should stop exchanging gifts if it gets you this upset. JMO.

Really? I guess I thought that gun being a no-no everyone knew. I mean they had that back in the dark ages when I got braces. Now some of the stuff on the list had me blown away, like Doritos. But I thought eveyone knew about gum.:confused3

I was in braces forever and the only thing they really limited was soda since apparently the carbonation can eat away at the cement. I chewed gum all the time since it helped with the pain after they would adjust them.

I didn't know all the restrictions on braces until I was 27 and got them. I didn't realize that you weren't supposed to chew gum or eat all those 'hard' foods because everyone I'd seen with braces was a kid and they ate all the no no foods.;) Of course, since I paid for my braces, I didn't dare do anything for fear of paying more to fix a bracket or something.

Get him some Reester eggs.:thumbsup2

I never said her life revolved around my son. But when I buy someone a gift I put thought into it. I think about what I buy them.

So I guess the mistake I made here (besides posting on the CB;) ) was assuming everyone knew that you are not SUPPOSE to chew gum when you had braces. Even if people do do it.

I thought this was a no brainer like you dont give a diabetic lots of candy.

Well, I put gum in dd11's stocking this year, forgetting about the palate expander she wears (and has worn for almost 3 years). :confused3 I have 5 kids - can't be expected to remember everything! :rotfl2:

wow, rough

the thought counts.. pretty much kills the spirit that you complain on a message board after your neighbor does something thoughtful.

I never had braces, or my kids or wife. I would not even click to me. I would be excited for the spirit of the gift giving and not worried about a stick of gum.

It would be rough knowing that person then went to a message board to complain about me.

They know this, he cant have anything in the bag.

Actually, he can enjoy half of what was in the bag. I would think at 10 years old, your son would be able to deal with being given a couple of things that he can't consume. There's going to be lots of disappointments in life and this, to me, is tiny.

Let it go. Maybe she never had braces or had kids with braces. I know lots of people who don't know the ins/outs of brace wearing.

I had braces and was quite successful at chewing gum and eating popcorn-but don't tell your child (or my mom) that

I really have no idea what people who have braces can and cannot eat. Why would the OP assume that this is general knowledge? I've never had braces and either has anyone in my family. The few friends that I knew with braces seemed to chew gum.

People vent about Christmas gifts too.

That doesn't mean that it's the most grateful or mature thing to do either way.

So maybe your neighbor didn't have braces. This isn't something I would expect every single person to know. Come on, really? This woman's world doesn't revolve around your son. She did something nice for your children, you need to get over it.

:thumbsup2

DOH! This thread just reminded my that my nephew got braces and I sent him Peeps for Easter! Bad Aunt! Bad Aunt!

It's not a no brainer. You still seem to be resentful of the whole thing by implying she didn't put thought into it. Maybe it's time to end the exchanges.

I thought you said that the kids exchanged gifts? So then isn't it possible that they picked out gift, not the Mom.

Apparently, you were wrong about the "no brainer" assumption you made. Stop stewing over it. And stop the gift exchanges if they are going to rile you up so much.

And regarding diabetics and candy: most people know not to give them a lot of candy, but not everyone knows trhat they also should avoid starchy meals like pasta or rice, and the only reason I know this is b/c my dad is diabetic. I wouldn't get my panties in a bunch if someone cooked spaghetti or served a rice dish for my dad. I'd just say thank you and be greatful that they thought of me/him.

Oh, careful now! I bet somewhere out there in Cyberland someone is posting a thread right this very minute about their unthoughtful aunt. You should be ashamed! Sorry, couldn't resist a little humor about it. ;)
