Vent about dress codes at Disney...

My work has a Business Casual dress code and I would never be able to wear shorts or jeans to work.

That is exactly what I was thinking.

Flame away, but I am tired of seeing people told it is OK to go to any of Disney's nice (not necessarily signature) restaurants in jeans or shorts and t'shirts. Maybe this is just me, but I look forward to at least once nice meal every trip and yes DH and I do dress up a bit. Seeing tourists in jeans or worse yet shorts ruins the ambiance of the restaurant for us. I can understand at the park restaurants, but not at resorts sit-downs.

heck your at disney not a 5 star resort. if you want people to dress up then ask disney to change the policy. you are on vacation. you are limited as to how much luggage you can bring if you fly or how big your car is. i'll never get it way people complain so much about others not dressing up. i own 2 suits and i hate to wear them. some people wear suits and dressy clothes every day at work and want to relax while on vacation. there is the big and important word "VACATION" i'm not flaming it's just my opinion

No, I totally understand. But in the same respect, I want to be able to bring my "nice" clothes and go to a nice restaurant if I want, without paying V&A prices. Sory, but it does matter to me what other people are wearing. I don't want to feel like I am in a McDonalds.

Personally, I wear dress pants and skirts, and nice blouses to work EVERY DAY to work and when I'm on vacation I like to FEEL like I'm on vacation. While I won't wear a tank top (unless it's a dressy tank) to a nice restaurant on property, I will wear jeans (depending on the weather) and a nice t-shirt and probably sandals of some kind, whether they be flip flops or not. We usually go to Artist's Point once during our trips to WDW and we've worn anything from khaki's to shorts, flip flops to sneakers, and never once have they turned us away. I try not to worry overmuch what other people are wearing while I'm on vacation - I generally don't allow complete strangers to ruin my meals unless there are screaming adults and/or children involved. That's my $.02. :confused3

bring your nice clothes and enjoy WDW your way. thats what walt wanted. walt never intended WDW to be a place to judge others cause they are rich or poor. you seem to be complaining cause everyone dont dress to your standards. thats why this is AMERICA and you vacation at DISNEY WORLD. its a happy place for kids of all ages. do you have time to play at then at 3 pm head to hotel room change clothes goto ca grill then change clothes again and do MVMCP? if you do then bless you. some people are on vacation and want to relax. not run run run run run. just what i think.

I think the heart of the issue is that it doesn't have to be an "either/or" thing. There are maybe 50 sit-down restaurants at WDW? I think all Agotta is saying is that it would be nice if a few of them would provide a "dressy" atmosphere, for those who would like that sort of experience for a night or two during their vacation. So a place like Citricos might provide this, for example, while those who just want something more casual might be able to go to the GF Cafe or Narcoosee's.

There are enough restaurants to provide a wide array of dining options, but, as I said before, I guess the number of guests who want a "dress-up" evening out without dropping $250 at Vickie & Al's just isn't large enough for Disney to go that far at any of their spots.

I will be at Calif.Grill Friday night with 4 girlfriends and my sweet daughter-in-law to celebrate my 50th birthday. Dress code or no dress code, we decided that it would be fun to "glam it up" for our dinner that night...no ball gowns(!) but just fun, festive, and a bit fancy! So, for all of you who want to be grubby that night at CG, knock yourself out...but we are celebrating a big milestone for me and incredible friendships among all of us and don't intend to mark the moment in jeans. In fact, we may be sporting tiaras and wands, too :goodvibes

See ya soon!

Unfortunately, IMO, dressing the way I always thought was proper for upscale restaurants has changed drastically, and not just at WDW. I couldn't believe how people were dressed in Vegas while dining at very fancy restaurants. I don't care how limited your luggage capacity is, there's always room for a nice pair of slacks and a top. It's just that some people don't care how they are dressed, and use the excuse that they're on vacation and don't want to have to dress up.

If Disney ever made places like Citrico's or Narcoosee's require a specific dress code, you would hear all the yelping about how people can't be expected to carry an extra outfit with them, or how they can't get back to their hotel to change, or how they are being excluded from a particular venue. My attitude is dress the way you want, and ignore the oafs who have no clue. Just enjoy yourself.

FLame Flame Flame...click...click...(checks tank...empty) :rotfl:

The dress code of a sit down place will cause some people not to go. They may feel uncomfertable "putting on Airs". I personally don't care what someone is wearing as long as they aren't jerks.

PS at a place called Cypris Cove in Kissimme you can eat at a nice sit down reasturant where you do not have to dress. :cool1: It is a Family place where you will see people of all ages from newborn to 90. The wife and I have been there. It had very good food and a comfortable atmosphere. You should try it  :teeth: :cheer2: .

It does not really affect me one way or another how other people dress. We have eaten at Yachtsman and Flying Fish in jeans and shorts. I may have even had some type of flip-flop sandal or clog on. ;) There is not much other diners could do to ruin my dinner. Maybe screaming kids (that scream the entire meal-not just a 10 minute melt-down-those I can handle) :confused3 , loud, rude people I guess. The last thing DH would want to do on vacation is dress up. That's why he refuses to do Victoria and Albert's.

CCW, I love the wand/tiara thing! It sounds fun.

I agree that Disney's definition of "business casual" is not what I normally think of - nor do most businesses that use that dress code. Business casual is not shorts, sandals, and jeans IMO. However, since Disney decided it is, I can't expect people to go above that.

I do agree with you in your wishes that WDW had a handful of NICE places where people did dress in typical business casual wear (not Disney business casual, but what is more typically found in that definition of dress) because many of us do enjoy having a nice night out and the dress of others does set the tone for the restaurant as a whole.

DH and I enjoy dressing up a little and enjoying a nice meal together on vacation, and based on the people I saw at Citricos last week, I think lots of people enjoy that as well. But Disney hasn't decided to enforce that so what can you do? =)

I don't understand why someone can't have a "nice meal" because others around them aren't dressed in the same manner.. :confused3 Honestly and truly, I just don't understand it..

If it's because the person dressed nicely feels odd or out of place, that's a personal self-esteem issue they need to deal with within themselves..

I just don't get it.. :confused3

I totally agree. How someone else is dressed has never had an impact on my dining experience.

My family went to Cinderella's Gala Feast at the Grand Floridian last fall, and for the life of me I can't remember what anyone else wore. I do remember we left the park early so we could change clothes, and that there was some ironing involved. It felt to us like the right thing to do. But as far as how any other people were dressed--- I have no idea. Even if I had seen someone in a torn t-shirt and cut offs I would have probably rolled my eyes and chalked it up to being at Disney World. Most people do not pack formal clothes for a trip to Disney. So I guess what other people wear doesn't affect me at all. :p

I ate at Jiko and Artist Point, and was told when I made my ADR about the dress code, which I already knew before that, so no one can claim they didn't know there was a code. I wore capris and a nice top, with sandals to those places, and didn't feel out of place at all.

Places like Brown Derby, it felt a little weird at first to be in casual clothes at a place like that, with the gourmet meal. I had to keep on reminding myself I was in a theme park. The most casual thing I wore all trip though was nicer shorts and a nice tank top, so I guess I was okay.

Believe it or not, I have some clothes that I picked up from QVC.

They're 'easy packers' (my name for them) because all I do to pack them is fold them, roll them up and shove them into a corner of my luggage. They don't wrinkle, they're a very comfortable material- and the best part is that they always look great!

They're not 'wash & wear', they don't go in the dryer. Lay flat to dry.

But whenever I'm stumped for something to wear anywhere- be it Disney, NYC, Vegas, L.A., I feel really good wearing them. AND, DH gets wowed and compliments me like crazy when he sees me in them.

They fit the 'business casual' or 'dressy' guidelines. I've worn them at CA Grill, Party for the Senses, V & As, Shulas (NYC), Buchon (LV).

It would be an easy solution..... Just a thought.

I feel that Disney should enforce the "business casual" code by denying admission to restaurants for people in jeans. I was at Yachtsman and the flying fish this past weekend. People were in jeans, very inappropriate. I asked out waitress about this and she said that only people in tank tops are turned away. I does effect my dining pleasure to see people dressed for the parks in nice restaurants. I endevor to dress for the activity that I'm going to do. Clothes do make the man. I will state that during the summer months I feel that dress shorts should be acceptable at nicer restaurants. Tee shirts and jeans are never acceptable at the better resort restaurants. Parks can be more casual, if you come into the park in the morning and spend the day there ok, park fare is appropriate. If your going to signature restaurants, obey the dress code or have a burger somewhere else.

Holy crap, are you serious? You actually let what other people around you wear affect your dinning experience? :rotfl2: Sorry, as long as I am not wearing my bikini top and thong and flopping my stuff around on your plate, how am I bothering you? When we go to dinner at the "nicer" resort restuarants, we are all usually wearing shorts and nice shirts. I might even be sporting a ponytail :rotfl: I am on vacation. Some of you may think that is an excuse to "let myself go" (as was stated in another thread), to me, it is how I am comfortable. I do not see how this makes me a "clueless oaf" Get real. Feel free to eat your steak and cheddar cheese soup at Le Cellier wearing your diamonds and tiarras...I couldn't care less. Time is precious to me on vacation, I am not going to shorten my day by going back to the room, showering, doing my hair/make-up and putting on my Versace little black dress and heals just so your dinning experience isn't ruined. :cool1:

Wow, I haven't seen a clothes police thread like this in ages. Disney will never enforce a business casual dress code. The will play to the masses and the strict policy doesn't fit the profile of the average guest.

If my shorts or jeans and flip flops bother you at any of the upscale eating places you can gladly go somewhere else. I'm sure your overtop the attitude won't bother me.

Snobbery is fun. Why should we pretend otherwise? We like to whisper, "I can't believe the sandals she's wearing" or, the obverse, "Gee, he's wearing a nice tie." I gossip all the time. It's got nothing to do with insecurity; it's just fun. No doubt you do it too.

Now I agree that a theme park resort like WDW has its work cut out for it if it wants to enforce dress codes. The problem is WDW's cowardice. Either throw people with shorts out of a restaurant or eliminate this "business casual" nonsense, which in a three or four-star restaurant in a big city means no shorts or jeans. Disney, ever obsessed with pleasing princesses and princes of all ages, needs tdo decide on one or the other.
