Vegetarians?

I suggest Morning star veggie patties. I don't like hamburgers and my family loves them so I always eat veggie patties instead and they are absolutely delicious! I warn you that the Asian patties are pretty spicy. I have a garden too with tomatoes, peppers, carrots, lettuce and corn. It's a lot of fun and it tastes really good. I'm not vegetarian, but I eat a lot more bread, and vegetables then I do meat.

That's sad. It's like my parents, I'll see that they're going to eat veal for dinner and I begin telling them how the baby cow probably only saw its mother for a few seconds before it was shoved into a pen where it was immobile, then given food covered in poop. All so the meat wouldn't be too tough. My parents just tell me that they don't want to think about it.
I don't know how you don't think about it, though!
Yeah, it's sad. Personally, once I knew about it I couldn't get it out of my head! I don't understand how they can just push it aside? But I respect their choice.

KAYLA! Hello there, it's been a while!

And thanks. I was actually surprised that the spicy black bean burgers weren't spicy at all; I just think they have chili powder and curry in them.

Hey Jenny. :goodvibes

Is that the same Morning Star brand?
I've only tried vegetable garden patties and the asian ones.
I loved the vegetable garden ones. I'd eat them all day. I'll have to look for some different ones next time we go grocery shopping.

*Like*
It always makes me sad. I wonder how people don't know. Maybe they're uneducated? A select few are probably ignorant. I think that if people knew what happens to the animals, then I'd bet the majority of them would become vegetarians. You don't have to love animals to still feel horrible when you're informed on how the animal is treated. Does that make sense?

:)

It makes perfect sense. But as long as my opinion and choice is respected I will respect their choice (however I don't agree with it)
It's like I said they don't see that piece of food as an animal, there's a disconnect in the thinking there. That's the best way I can describe it.

I don't know. I tried to explain to my friend why I was going vegetarian, and she completely tuned me out and said she didn't want to know anymore after I started describing the factory farms. Unfortunately, I think a lot of people like to live in their ignorant little world. :guilty:

Yeah I know how it feels to not have people understand and it's tough:hug:
But from what I hear you're doing a great thing for yourself and for the animals!

Yep, they're MSF brand. They're the same thing they serve at Chili's, if you've ever had the blackbean burger there. They're really yummy!

I think I'm gonna have to try out those garden ones next time I go to the store. I'll just add it to my list, lol.

Thanks that means a lot!

So, I'm checking the next think off my list -- pork. I told my mom, and she goes 'I'll be so glad when you're over this thing.'

Pork, and beef are no big deal. Fish won't be too hard. Turkey and chicken are what is going to be a little bit harder, and will also be more tough trying to convince my mom.

She says 'I could handle the beef thing, but now no pork!? No bacon!?' I think I'll have to give her more time in-between to get used to the idea.

Hey, I'm trying to make the transition to vegetarianism, and I was wondering if there were any others on this board? I know we used to have a vegetarian thread (back when I was ignorant to it, lol).

I'd love some tips. Maybe your favourite foods/food brands?

For some people going veg was super easy, either because they didn't like meat or didn't eat it much, but it gets even easier as time progresses

If you want to cave just think of all the animals your saving 100 a year!!!

After a few years the idea of eating meat (except maybe your old favorites) sounds absoulutly repulsive!

It's pretty hard at first, especially if your family still eats meat like mine did, but I promise it gets a whole lot easier

I've now been a meat free kid for 5 years!!!!:hippie:

Thank, and wow that's awesome for you. :)

Awesome! Good for you :)

So, I bought vanilla soymilk from the store. It's pretty good! The color kind of threw me off, but I wasn't expecting it to be like cow milk anyways. It kind of tastes like a vanilla milkshake. :goodvibes:

I love soymilk. The color does look a bit weird, but it tastes really good. I love the plain silk, but my favorite is 8th continent. (I think that's what it's called.)

If you guys get fittv, there is a show called A Lyon in the Kitchen where this cook makes tons of things with fresh, organic ingredients. It's not all vegetarian but he has really good recipes some of you might like.

i always thought silk soymilk tastes like milk that has had cornflakes in it.

Hey! :) I've been vegeterian my entire life...I'm the only one in my family, so it's not like we're religious or anything, but I just have never liked meat. And I don't think I'll ever eat it, I mean my body isn't used to it or anything and it's just always been replusive to me since I was a baby, my mom would try and feed me it when I was little but I refused it even then. xD Anyway, since my mom is always worrying about protein for me, she gets me these protein shakes that you can just drink whenever basically. I don't suggest using them for your only protein or anything of course, but they help out a lot when you don't really have anything else. :) At first they taste kinda icky but it's an aquired taste I guess because I'll drink them whenever now!

Good luck to you Jenny!

I was going to buy 8th Continent (it was also cheaper than Silk, lol) but like there weren't many cartons left and the expiration date was like August 3rd, where Silk was August 30th.

It does! The vanilla flavour is very subtle.

Awesome! Do you know how many calories are in your protein shakes, and what brand they are?

special k makes protein water that is super tasty but leaves your mouth dry. so drink it with regular water.

stupid question, but are you guys allowed to have mac and cheese? i'm assuming no because of the dairy products (milk, cheese)?

only vegans are restricted to eating no dairy. vegetarians can.

there's about as much dairy in the typical dried cheese powder as there is in my tennis shoes. ;)

i don't put milk in mac and cheese (i find it cheesier without it:confused3), and there is also soy cheese that you can buy. so yes, its possible to make vegan friendly mac and cheese.

I would guess no?!? But maybe with like soy cheese or something?

I knew the vegan thing, mainly because I remembered they can't eat jello, but I wasn't sure of vegetarians.

Oh, and I wasn't really necessarily talking about kraft dinner Mac and Cheese, just like Mac and Cheese in general. I've been trying to find a good recipe so I've had cheese on the brain. ;)
And I didn't know that about the soy cheese. I've heard of soy milk and soy granola bars, but never cheese. I find soy to be a bit disappointing actually. Years ago when the SoyJoy bars came out I was so excited to try them because they looked yummy and their ads were promising. They tasted worse than a dried out leather boot. -_-

Alright, and probably another stupid question - are organic foods veggie friendly?
