Vegetarians?

Hey, I was waiting for you! Resident DIS vegetarian.

Okay, so, what's ya'lls favourite morningstar farms/boca/otwalla products?

Haha I can't believe you remembered I was a veg! That's so cool! :)
Anyways I love anything Morning Star 'chicken' the patties are out of this world and the nuggets are nice too! Boca does nice 'burgers' such a the blackbean and I think the other one is roasted peppers..but I'm not 100% sure.
I have a whole bunch of stuff from both places that I want to try.
Including the 'bacon'.
The only thing I won't eat is the 'hotdogs' to me they just don't look so good.
But I'm so excited for this thread!

Of course I remembered you! I think I used to argue with you about vegetarianism. SORRY. I was ignorant.

I'm excited for this thread, too. It seems like everyone I tell about this just scoff at me and act like it's a phase or something. They might change their mind if they knew how animals were farmed and treated, but I doubt it.

So, has anyone tried the MSF vegan burgers?

Haha aw thanks! But don't worry about it (the arguing) it's all good :goodvibes
I completely agree with what you said about the way animals are being farmed. That's why I'm vegetarian. Anyone considering should watch "Meet Your Meat" it's VERY graphic but opens up your eyes!

I have tried the vegan burgers and they are yummy as well!

This thread is awesome.

lol Jenny being ignorant about something dealing with nutrition.. Nah, can't be.;)

Alright there's still one thing I'm missing about vegetarian.. Homosapiens are omnivores. Hunting and killing animals is part of nature. If we don't do it, at some point another animal is going to kill it. I'm sure the whole torture thing will come into a reply, but those animals are going to suffer through torture when they're being killed in the wild. Maybe it's me, but I just see no point to being a vegetarian. It's a false hope of trying to have an animal not killed, in my opinion. As always.. open to opinions.

Ok I'm going to try to explain MY viewpoint on this. I cannot speak for all vegetarians, and EVERYONE has the right to their own opinions.

Yes humans CAN eat meat. I did, and I was fine. But the way animals are mass produced, breed, kept in tiny cages and killed inhumanely is what I am not ok with being a part of.
If you were left to your own devices, to hunt, cook and eat an animal it would be extremely difficult. Our digestive tracts are more similar to an herbivore then a carnivore.
Yes there is a food chain, and yes animals are killed naturally every day. But those animals have a CHANCE at survival. Unlike the baby calf in the tiny stall that's being fattened up. It can't run, it has no chance. That's the difference between factory farming and something going on out in the wild.
Our in the wild is how it was meant to be, factory farms and all of that are man made things.
Plus you're not eating 'natural meat' you're eating meat with all these preservatives, chemicals and everything...it's just to me dirty.

Again...MY opinion. Hope that cleared something up for you.

I sound like such a hippie :hippie::hippie::hippie:

Okay, so, I don't know how to describe it? It's very much a personal thing, so I don't want it to sound like I'm trying to sway you.

For me, it was when I heard about chickens. How their beaks are ripped out without anesthetic. They are crushed into cages where they can't stand up for move around at all. They're gassed if they don't produce eggs fast enough/or if they can't. And cows! The way they are killed. And fish. They suffocate slowly before they die, and those nets kill a ton more stuff than what the fishermen actually want.

So, this just really...disgusted me? I mean, while reading this I just sat their with my jaw dropped. I couldn't believe it.

I'm still trying to research it and find credible sources for information, so bear with me, lol.

Anyway, after reading this, I just felt like I couldn't participate in it anymore? I couldn't be a consumer of this, because to me, that meant I support it. Thinking about eating a dead cow now, after what I've read, I just can't stomach the idea. I'm not trying to stop an animal from being killed, or convert anyone, or whatever, I just don't feel like I can personally participate in this anymore.

So, I guess it's trying to understand why someone is a certain religious? I'm not comparing vegetarianism with religion or something, but people can't always explain why they do the things they do, or believe in the things they do.

:)

I love the term inhumanely. Who ever decided how humans should kill other animals? And why would it be extremely difficult to hunt, kill, and cook our own meat? Before we developed enough to the point where we could rely on others to get our food, that's exactly what we did.

And now where you're wrong.. Our body's are not made at all to be herbivores. There are some things that are essential to a human's diet. Protein, fat, and vitamins and minerals. Do you see carbs in there? Not at all. We're made to live off of meat. Go back to the Paleolithic times. They only ate meat and some seasonal berries. It takes over 2000 years for humans to completely adapt to a major change. We've not yet adapted to having carbs and glucose as a main fuel source. That's why if you go on a low-carb diet you'll be completely healthy. But, just try to cut out either fat or protein out of your diet completely. Believe it or not, and I can post peer-reviewed studies, but our body would rather run on ketones than it would glucose.

Also, we live and we die. Those animals are going to die eventually and the vast majority of them will be consumed by other animals.

And I only buy natural meat. BTW, you realize the vast majority of food that's packaged by a company has preservatives in it?

Ok I'm glad it made sense. I really enjoyed your description as well!

Ok well I don't believe there's any such thing as 'natural meat' unless you're killing it yourself.
Secondly there's tons of evidence to support what I said. About not needing meat. I don't eat meat anymore and I feel so much better and cleaner then when I did eat meat.
Like I said everyone's entitled to their opinion and this is mine.
And you say all animals are going to die, well who gives you the right to take the life of another, and decide how they should be killed?
What they do to those animals is wrong, they die for nothing.

I really love what you wrote. You can tell this is something you believe it, and that's awesome. This all makes a lot of sense. :goodvibes

What they do to those animals is wrong, they die for nothing.

Yes, Trader Joe's and other stores carry meat that hasn't been messed with.

And there's absolutely no peer-reviewed evidence to support what you said. That's because it's a complete lie. True we don't need meat, but we have to have the essential nutrients to survive and carbohydrates are not essential. Complete proteins are and they're most commonly found in meats. I'd like to see you go on a diet where you don't meet your protein needs to stay in a positive nitrogen balance and you only eat incomplete proteins. You'd be in the hospital in no time. If you'd like, I have plenty of peer-reviewed studies supporting the fact you do not need carbohydrates to survive and that ****-sapiens are in fact, omnivores.

And they die for nothing? They die so I can continue to live. It's survival of the fittest and I'll take the necessary measures to make sure I'm the most fit to survive. And that means I'll take the lives of other animals.

Almost all meat is 'messed with' but whatever you need to tell yourself.
What you said about you having the right to kill so that you can live. You don't need the meat to survive. And just because you can do something doesn't mean that you should. What if some scientist discovered that human flesh was an even better protein. Would you be ok with that?

i went veg for like two months
but then my mom brought home ribs
and i couldnt resist
i failed Dx

good luck though!
i actualy lost like 5 pounds from it.
its really good for you, if you do it right.

If so, then the FDA would have been all over them for making claims that their product is not all natural. Your opinion < FDA facts. Bring facts to the table, not opinions, if you would like to sway my opinion.

I don't have to have the meat to survive, that's correct. I do have to have essential proteins and to stay in a positive nitrogen balance I need even more protein than the average joe because I weight lift. It just so happens that meats are the cheapest and have the best quality of protein out of anything. So, why they are not needed, they certainly play a huge beneficial role.

And human meat is a great source of protein. However, I do not condone cannibalism. That's not part of human nature. However, killing other species is.

I never said I was trying to sway you. You asked a question and I'm doing my best to answer it. As for cannibalism that's another debate and I don't condone it either, just trying to make a point.
My question about this natural meat (as I don't know much about it) is it not processed at all? What does it look like? Like how does it come packaged? (If that makes sense)

So, instead of posting some studies or anything to back-up your claims, you decided to post an extreme way to look at something? Nice.

lol it's produced by major brands. Here's what I buy:

http://www.samsclub.com/shopping/navigate.do?dest=5&item=184833

- All natural
- No added hormones
- No added preservatives

As far as beef and things like that, just look for grass fed ground beef or the bags should state if it's natural.

You asked me a question, I'm telling you how I look at it. I don't need a fact sheet for my opinion. I'm not trying to be rude or have a holier than thou attitude. Just trying to explain my thoughts and feelings on the issue. Sorry if i offended, or that m arguments not strong enough for your tastes.
