So, it has frustrated me to no end that the animals at AK eat better than me when I'm there! Maybe they are giving all the fruit and veggies to them!

I have been to AK 3 times. First time we ate at Tusker House. LOVE IT! LOVE LOVE LOVE it! But, that is besides the point. We have a QSDP pin this time and are going to pay for a couple TS meals OOP. Since we have been to Tusker House, I really want to do something else on another day.

BUT, this leaves me with nowhere to eat. The other time that I was at AK with no ADR, I was LOST trying to find something to eat. I eventually got a pretzel, and a couple different containers of fruit from one of the carts near the safari...to the tune of 16$ and half the fruit was inedible. This time I will have credits and need a CS credit for lunch.

Here I thought they would have more selections than ever. I found pizza (which I don't eat, I'm vegan most of the time b/c too much cheese makes me ill) and one place that has a veggie burger. I suppose I could eat that, but my dd is also a vegetarian and there are NO kids meals that don't have meat.

Any vegetarians or vegans out there that have suggestions? I will probably just go to Tusker House, but that means missing out on something new on a different day.

I think Disney is really missing the boat with animal kingdom! There could be so many tempting vegetarian/ vegan offerings to eat but alas...

90% of the time I end up at Pizzafari for a pizza. It works for me as a lacto/ovo.
The fruit place at Flame tree looked like a good snack but that isnt going to make a meal. I have also done the fruit cup and a pastry at the bakery infront of Tusker house when Dd and Dh were eating turkey sandwiches from across the street.

You could maybe try the picnic in the park, I have not due to a mushroom allergy. I was veggie burgered out so I have never tried the one at Restaraunsaurous, they are more than likely going to be your basic boca burger type.

We've eaten:
breakfast platter at Pizzafari (they'll sub extra hash browns for the meat, too)
veggie burger at Restaurantosaurus (has a toppings bar!)
veggie wrap and tandoori tofu at Picnic in the Park

I don't like Chinese food, but there's also pizza at Pizzafari, of course.

As for kids' meals, I'd probably call special diets, or at least ask to speak to a manager. Don't assume that just because it's not on the kids' menu, she can't have it.

Hi - Yes, I totally agree that the lunch selections at AK totally suck, ESPECIALLY if your vegan. I've heard the veggie burger at Restaurantasurus is vegan, but don't quote me 100% on that. I'm not big on veggie burgers, because I like to eat real food and not some processed frozen patty.

What I plan on doing is getting the pizzafari hot italian sandwich sans meat. I'll probably get the cheese since I'm lacto ovo at the moment, but I defintely am working to become more of vegan and usually prefer food that is vegan. I have heard that the ceasar dressing there does not contain anchovies, not sure if it contains some type of cheese though. I will get a side ceasar with the sandwich (without meat). The other option would be to hop on a bus and go over to MARA at the the AKL. They have a falafel pita. I still may do that, let the family go to Pizzafari and me take the bus to Mara, grab the sandwich eat quick and jump back on the bus. Not sure how long it would take though and not sure if it's worth it. I wish I didn't have to worry about it.

I think we should all send out e-mails to DISNEY and demand more vegetarian options. I mean they promote animals and environmental projects, they really should promote vegetarian and veganism.

I've also heard that there is NOTHING vegetarian at the YAK and Yeti counter service because EVERYTHING is cooked in chicken stock or cooked with chicken in it. Not 100% sure though.

Another thing I may look into is what you could get to "GO" at Rainforest cafe?

Come on Disney. There are plenty of things to eat at MK & Epcot, and even a few decent choices at DHS............but I want more choices at AK!!

Just wanted to let you know that I feel your pain. The last time we were at the AK, we ate at Tusker House (which we love too!). We checked out the Yak and Yeti's menu, but couldn't find anything all that interesting that still fit the bill for vegetarian items. Dairy products also make me ill, so we stay away from dairy as best we can.
I agree that the AK seems to be missing the boat here when it comes to vegetarian and vegan items, but the only advice I could give is to either check out the Rainforest Cafe or if it's possible for you, leave the park and go to the Animal Kingdom Lodge. It's sad because I understand wanting to eat somewhere new and different, it's just such a shame that the Tusker House is probably the best spot in the park for good veggie eats. If you can go to the AK Lodge, I heard very good things about the Mara, which is CS.

I like the veggie burger at Restaurantasaurus. They ask whether or not you want cheese and the toppings bar is great.

:)

My boyfriend is vegetarian and planning a place to eat at AK has been a challenge, especially since he is trying to avoid dairy as well. Hands down the best option is Picnic In The Park, but that is now open "seasonally" (read: whenever we feel like it).

We will probably pay OOP for a salad at Pizzafari or eat a veggie burger at Restuarantasaurus. Or maybe we'll eat a late breakfast and that will hold us over until our dinner at Jiko!!

I agree with everyone else, there is SUCH an opportunity for veggie friendly food here, look at all the amazing offerings they have at Boma/Jiko/Sanna and such that could be dumbed down for CS's.
Last trip I ended up with a pizza from Pizzafari. Thrilling...

As others have mentioned there is a veggie burger at the Restaurantosaurus. Also you can find a really good fruit plate at Flame Tree BBQ, I had it in February and it was wonderful. The fruit was fresh and you get quite a bit. It does come with yogurt, but I gave that to my son. I believe it is a honey yogurt.

We're going to be bringing sandwiches at home, but the day we're spending the most time at the park we're going over to Sanaa for a TS at AKL.
