Vegetarian Teen

I have been to WDW twice as a vegetarian (I've been converted to the dark side and I'm now a meat-eater) and I found it very easy to find vegetarian meals. San Angel Inn has a vegetarian menu with several items on it. I remember Mama Melrose had a few options too, although I don't remember what I ate now but I do know it was good.

I know this isn't on your list, but my favorite meal ever as a vegetarian was at 50's PTC. At the time the only veggie option was a stuffed pepper which did not sound appealing to me. So I asked if they could do something else and they made me a huge plate of many different side items. My sister was with us and she is a vegetarian too so they made us both plates and customized it to our tastes. For example I love mushrooms and she doesn't so they put a mushroom dish on my plate and not hers. The mushrooms were wonderful, btw.

I think your DD should be fine although she might have to try something new every now and then.

One tip for while you're at home might be to have her try some fake meat that you can get in the grocery store. Boca, Morningstar Farms, and Quorn all make some pretty tasty meat substitutes that your daughter could have in place of the actual meat in whatever meal you're cooking. If she likes them, then you wouldn't have to worry about creating a whole separate meal for her.

As for Disney, most chefs are very accommodating to make a vegetarian meal with ingredients they have on hand if the one on the menu doesn't sound appetizing. The last time I went to Le Cellier, the veggie option was a gnocchi dish in pesto sauce with grape tomatoes (it could have changed since). I found the sauce to be way too strong and overpowering, but think it could be great if there was a cream or tomato sauce they could substitute. I really like the veggie options at Sci Fi and Ohana, although they are veggie heavy. Hoop de Doo has multiple veggie options if you call ahead, and I'm pretty sure you can get a veggie burger there as well. Italian restaurants are usually pretty safe for vegetarians, and probably great for your daughter if she's not big on veggies - but in general it's good to check on ingredients to make sure there's nothing "hidden" in there (chicken/beef broth, fat, etc.).

DD eats a lot of Quorn in meals at home - do Disney have this type of substitute meat available in restaurants so the chef can prepapre a veggie version of a meal on the menu?

Your DD is exactly like mine - she 'turned' veggie 3 years ago when she was 13 and Disney meals have been a bit of a struggle since - she she is also vegetable- phobic:rotfl:.
Mine has been a vegetarian since birth and she too is vegetable-phobic :rolleyes1.

My DD is 11 and she always finds plenty to eat on buffets. At the regular TS restaurants we ordered from the kids menu a lot. Mac-n-cheese, cheese pizza and butter noodles are a staple. We liked Via Napoli for their cheese/veggie pizzas. We had a nice meal at Coral Reef in August. We were on the DDP and I wanted her to try some "grown up" food. She doesn't eat mushrooms so their lasagna was out but the chef whipped up something for her. She also ordered a nice dish with tofu and asian noodles from the adult menu at Yak N Yeti TS. My DD also liked the veggie burgers at the CS places and the fruit plate at (or all places!) Flame Tree BBQ.

if you have to kill it to eat it then its off the menu.

Hmmm! Vegetables are alive until they're ripped from the ground. So I guess we have to kill the vegetables to eat them.

Unfortunately, I've never seen any fake meats at Disney. Some places have dishes with tofu, if your daughter eats it. I've been pleasantly surprised by how well-cooked and tasty the tofu I've had at Disney has been.

My 13 year old niece decided to be vegetarian about three months ago. We're going to WDW for spring break in March and we made our ADRs back in Sept at the 180 day mark before the no meat eating. Since she taking French this year, she want to go to Bistro de France (we went to Chefs de France last time). I've looked at their menu, and I'm really not seeing any non-meat options. Some of the sides look like they could be combined to create a veggie plate. Has anyone tried this? I'm thinking that we may need to change this ADR.

Ditto, although they do have a standard veggie burger available basically everywhere.

OP, depending on your daughters age and appetite, it may be better to see if she can order off the kids menu. Most kids menus have plain pasta, mac-n-cheese, and/or pb&j. They usually come with a plain vegetable or a sample salad.

If you want good vegetarian food, I second Bicker on Tusker House, and would also recommend, BOMA!

 That is EXACTLY what my dad said!

I think it has more to do with .... if it has a "face".

I also made my ADR's prior to the "no meat".

But as I have gone back and looked at the menus, there really seems to be a fair amount of things that could be modified or there seems to be some type of pasta and tomato sauce or cheese sauce on the kids menu's that would work. I did notice the occasional veggie burger. Or she and I have discussed the option of getting a burger minus the burger with extra cheese and lots of toppings. All of these are ok with her.

I did drop the Ohanna's dinner reservation. There just didnt seem to be much that she would eat. We traded this one for CRT. CRT has a designated veggie meal and there is also mac and cheese with chicken that someone else would eat.

I also am very interested in trying Tusker House. I havent been since it became a buffet.

1) At ALL counter service locations, you can get veggie-burgers.
2) Although not on the menu, just ask for them.
. . . example: Pecos Bill's has them on the menu
. . . example: Electric Umbrella not on menu, but are available
3) As mentioned above, they are surprising good.
4) In fact, the wife likes them better than the new hot dogs at Casey's.
