I’m looking for recommendations of good options (preferably based on experience) for vegetarian table service options in or near magic kingdom. We’re two vegetarians (mum and I) and we don’t want only one option. Neither of us can eat spices and I have trouble with tomato sauce too. I suspect Tony’s could make something I could eat but we’re planning Italian in Epcot the previous night so would like some other recommendations - and I do love not to have to get special orders everywhere as that would likely end up with both of us served the same thing. I’ve seen plenty of places have a vegetarian option but as a vegetarian family we usually eat at the sort of place that has more than one vegetarian option. Happy to leave the parks for something nearby as the plan is for an early table service dinner to help pave out the day so we don’t get too worn out. Not looking for a signature option but rather something more affordable.

My wife really enjoyed the vegetarian dinners she had at 'Ohana (Polynesian) and The Wave (Contemporary). My recollection is the The Wave was her favorite.

I'll second The Wave. The food is local, fresh and they are very accommodating. I love The Wave. They used to have a vegetarian curry that was to die for. It is not on their menu now, but I see that Jungle Navigation has a similar item. I don't know if it's the same.

Hmm, any suggestions other than curry. Definitely no spices (not just no hot chilli) all causes a reaction for me regardless of the heat. Really not worth the discomfort for days after.

I’ll look into the noodle bowls (they can usually leave the spice out of that sort of thing) and the menu for the wave (getting out of the park might be a nice break).

I'll third The Wave...we are vegetarians too and it's one of our favorite restaurants at WDW. We find eating at MK for table service very difficult because we don't do buffets, and we've pretty much given up on finding good TS in MK...though I did notice that The Plaza has a couple of options if you don't mind eating fried food. As I recall they have a fried green tomato sandwich that can be easily made vegetarian, and I think they've also got grilled cheese and a veggie burger on the menu as well. But the food at The Wave that we've eaten hasn't been fried, and has always been both good and good for you, so it keeps us coming back. :) And if you don't see anything you like on the regular menu, ask to see the "allergy friendly menu" or don't be shy about asking to speak with a chef...they are wonderful there and have made incredible meals for my D who has multiple food allergies.

Another option, if you're willing to go in the afternoon, is the Afternoon Tea at the Grand Floridian. It's another must-do for us on a MK day! We typically go at around 1 and since they serve small sandwiches, scones, and dessert with the tea, it's more than enough food to suffice as a "full meal" for both H and I.

Hope this helps! :)

Im not a vegetarian and dont seek out vegetarian options, but from years of reading posts and blogs, it seems by far the best venue, or maybe I should say the most popular venue for vegetarian options at WDW is at Trails End in Ft Wilderness (quick relaxing ferry ride from MK)

I went for dinner. It was OK (well, the meat was OK...everything else was good!) ..very casual atmosphere. Rustic, cute theme.

I do know that a lot of vegans love Trail's End because Chef TJ is there and is very enthusiastic about preparing incredible vegan meals for people. We were there last year and Chef TJ made a custom, incredibly delicious 7 course meal for my D, who has multiple food allergies (milk, egg, soy) and is a vegetarian. H and I are vegetarian but we stuck to her (essentially vegan and soy-free) diet on that trip because she was newly diagnosed and really upset about missing out on her favorite foods, and we didn't want to be eating them in front of her and making her feel worse.

Anyway, while we were waiting for Chef TJ to come to our table, I did go over and check out the buffet, and maybe we were just there on an off night, but honestly there wasn't a ton I was excited about eating as a vegetarian...I pretty much remember seeing macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes, standard salad fixings, rolls, and fruit...and maybe some corn on the cob. Again, maybe an off night...but I personally would've been really disappointed to pay $34.99 for salad, fruit, and starch. And that's why some vegetarians are reluctant to eat at buffets -- especially Disney ones -- because for the price we are paying, there are a lot of items we can't eat. There are exceptions to this though...both Boma and Tusker house have a ton of options for vegetarians, and I've definitely felt like I was getting my money's worth at both of those restaurants.

Again, to PP -- I hope I don't come across as "contrarian" or "know-it-all"-ish...I just wanted to present a different perspective on this restaurant's offerings. If OP is vegan, I think Trail's End is a great idea, provided that Chef TJ is on the night they plan to visit...I've read here on the boards that the other chefs are far less willing and enthusiastic to prepare special meals for vegans.

HTH! :)

The Skipper Canteen was one of the worst for Vegetarian diet. They were not willing to do much of anything and I know I have heard this multiple times since.

From others it sounds like the Wave is going to be one of your best choices other than Kona which is very good with things like adapting the Pan Asian noodles and making with Tofu. They will also do more veggies and less noodles if that is your preference.

Good luck!

Ha! Your perspective is more welcome than mine! As I stated, I am not a vegetarian and dont really pay attention to the options. It was just what I had been reading for quite a while. You obviously pay attention, so Im glad you chimed in. I would not want to send someone in the wrong direction.

I almost mentioned Tusker House because I do remember having a plate full of delicious green beans and some mashed potatoes, but figured that would not be enough of a selling point to get someone looking for a full meal! Maybe you can mention the other options what would make it worth the $$

More veggies, less noodles, wonderful! One of the biggest challenges I actually have as a vegetarian traveling in the United States can be getting enough veggies - lol! I often have to order the sides that are supposed to come with a steak or similar to get extra veggies.

Thanks, I’ll eat fried but my mother not so much. I’m also not keen on a buffet as I know my mother would never eat anywhere near enough for the value factor to be worth it so she wouldn’t like spending that much unless the food was a bit more fancy. I’m hoping we can do the afternoon tea on a doffeeent day as a celebration event so glad to know that’s a good option.

DD and her family loved the Grand Floridian Cafe for lunch. There were many vegetarian items and a lot of the breakfast items carry over to lunch and can be adjusted to be served without meat. There's a vegetarian quiche, ceasar salad, eggs benedict, penne pasta with seasonal vegetables. There was a vegetarian soup choice the day we were there, as well as sweet breakfast items like pancakes, french toast, etc.

There's a veg Disney group on Facebook that I find really helpful. You can search by restaurant name in the group to see if anyone has posted about their experience at the restaurant. My favorite option would be the Wave but someone shared on the facebook group about a good meal they had at Skipper's Canteen recently.
