My dad is a vegetarian. But he's a meat and potatoes, hold the meat kind of vegetarian. He doesn't eat anything (in his words) "yuppy". Most of the veggie items on the menus at allears are things he wouldn't eat. Udon noodles, cashew vinagrette and mushroom potstickers just make him head the other way.

At table service places can we do things like get him an adult-sized portion of a children's item like pasta with tomato sauce? Or put together a few side dishes? He might eat a plate that was risotto and asparagus for example (the risotto is pushing it, but he's eaten risotto before)

What about counter service restaurants? Can we get him a cheeseburger no burger? (Any idea what that would cost, I'd hate to pay $6 for a bun, a slice of cheese and some lettuce). Can you order salads at counter service with some things left off? He might eat the Pecos Bill salad with no chicken and no jicama, for example.

The restaurants are going to love us, we're a party of 7 - 4 gluten free, one no sugar, one vegetarian...

DD is a vegetarian but she eats fish. Not sure if your dad is strictly veggie.
She likes cosmic rays veggie burgers and salad/fixins bar
Pecos bills did a burrito or taco w/o meat and rice
Columbia House fish sandwich and chowder
Chef Mickeys and Boma had veggie choices
Sci Fi has veggie burgers and a vegetarian menu but you have to ask for it
The fast food place in Morroco has lots of veggie options
Teppanaki grill had a tofu and veggie dish
There were veggie choices at both restaurants at CSR
Wolfgang Pucks express has great veggie pizza and Earl of sandwich had veggie and hummus wrap
Pretty much every place we we went had options but sometimes you need to request a special veggie menu

I think I read somewhere that you can get a bun and topics at quite a nice price...but I don't recall confidently enough to venture a guess.

Hollywood & Vine and Crystal Palace both had really yummy mashed potatoes, as do many of the buffets if I understand. Both H&V and CP had great other veggie options as well...salads and entrees that were delicious and appealing to "meat and potatoes" or "yuppy" vegetarians...or in between!

My DD is a vegetarian that eats fish but no poultry. The only places that we have encountered minor problems are the CS restaurants. We have found, however, that if you ask, they will sell you a grilled cheese "sandwich". Basically, it's a hamburger roll with melted cheese. It is not listed on any of the menus but the cashiers have it on their screens. As for TS restaurants,
the chefs have been outstanding in providing meals for my DD that are not listed on the menu. In most cases, they have prepared a pasta dish that incorporates whatever veggies they have in the kitchen. Let your server know that you have a vegetarian in your party who would like to speak to the chef about a veggie meal.
As for the best veggie selections on property, that distinction goes to Boma at the AKL. They label all their vegetarian selections including the soups (most soups at WDW are chicken broth based). Some of the items may be a little exotic for your Dad but they do have a children's section that has spaghetti and red sauce. My DH eats the spaghetti here all the time.

DD agrees Boma and Spoodles top her list for vegetarian followed by the bakery in France and Morocco grill.

That is great to know about the grilled cheese at the counter service - my DD is also a vegeterian and CS was the only meal we were concerned about her not finding something she likes - to add to it she is also allergic to nuts...dining with her can be quite trying at times.....

Just to clarify on the grilled cheese option...it is only available at CS restaurants that serve an item on a hamburger roll. We have been able to find it at the American Adventure in EPCOT and also at the Backlot Express in the Studios so far.
Snowwite...my DD would agree with yours about Spoodles. Chef Dan has been great in preparing veggie pasta dishes for her. He uses every veggie he has available in the kitchen and sautes them with penne pasta and a little oil and garlic.
Beaches and Cream also has a tasty veggie burger that I have had on several visits.

It is challenging trying to plan out our meals so far in advance taking everyone in the family' s needs into consideration. I made way less ADR this tiime because we kept missing them or not being that hungry by the time we were supposed to eat. We plan to try some new CS ones this trip. Does anyone know if Noodle Station in MK is open? I have yet to see it open when we go. Our trip is 4/14-4/23 this yr

At sci-fi they have a vegetarian 'bake' I think they call it, it's really good and not too foofy. It's got zucchinis and other veggies on top of a pile of shredded potatos, I thought it was REALLY good.

At 50s prime time they have a vegetarian stuffed pepper, which was also really good. i'm not sure if these are types of things your father will eat though.

We used one of the table service meals for breakfast and everyone seemed to enjoy it, we went to Crystal Palace so we could get eggs to order, waffles, etc. You could suggest that for a good 'meat and potatos, hold the meat' kind of meal.

IF I can think of anything else, I'll post again. Have a fun trip!

If you're concerned about counter service let me give you some of my favorites:

Animal kingdom/tusker house has a decent veggie sandwich

magic kingdom: columbia harbor house has a really good sandwich with hummos and broccoli coleslaw, they also have vegetarian chili.

epcot: the land pavilion has a sandwich they call a 'veggie ruben' which was pretty decent when i had it in june, i think it was grilled veggies with provolone cheese or some sort of cheese, and a dressing.

at MGM i had the tebbouleh wrap (i think this was at the abc commissary) and I liked that alot though it didn't get great reviews on the boards :confused3

don't know where you're staying but: the all stars have grilled cheese at all of them, and pofq has a grilled veggie sandwich. Those are all the resorts I stayed at, I hope this helps out you and your daughter!

It was open during Presidents week two weeks ago and since you are going around Easter it probably will be then too. But we ate there and it was the worst food we ever ate at WDW. I still can't believe we went to the Noddle Station over Pecos Bill's. My family is still mad at me for the choice.

The Noodle Station seems to be one of those "seasonal" openings. We were there right after New Year's and it was open that week. The second week of January it was closed and the CMs posted there were telling everyone that it would re-open in five weeks. That would have put the "re-opening" around President's Day.

Thanks Tricia -
I just showed your suggestions to my DD is she was very excited about them...we are staying at CSR this time... but only really plan on breakfast there - she is a bagel person...with no crusts - yes she literally cuts the crust off the entire bagel and then eats it....challenging is putting it mildly with her...but on the upside - she takes care of most of it herself and really loves veggies so I am sure she will find things she likes.... :wave2:
