Vegas: Love it, Hate it, never been, never going?

We love it...but then we're lonely bored people with absolutely nothing better to to than pour our hard-earned money down a hole.

Now that I think about it, that's probably the very reason we love WDW, too.

Well, I'll own up to the "attacking", but only to set the record straight. I sent shortbun a PM (because she said she wasn't returning to the Ronstadt thread) to tell her that I was surprised that she would be so close-minded and uptight about the people who go to Vegas (she said they were all lonely and boring). I also said that it sounds like it might be a jealousy issue if she can't live and let live. I don't see that as attacking her...

I have no problem with anyone who doesn't like Vegas for themselves. I do have a problem with someone who classifies a whole group of people who go to Vegas as "boring and lonely".

Oh...and I LOVE Vegas. But I guess I'm too lonely and boring to realize how I am just "pouring my money down the hole" when I go there.

No biggie, shortbun. I just couldn't respond to you on the Ronstadt thread so I pm'd you. I normally don't pm anyone...that was unusual for me.

I love it much! I went there when I was 18 (with my parents and sister) and had a BLAST! I love themed hotels. That's my main reason for loving it.

I lived in Las Vegas for over 7 years while stationed at Nellis AFB. While I'd never want to live there again (too hot, too crowded, etc.) it is a great place to visit and have fun

I'm in Vegas next in October. I sincerely doubt I'll be putting more than $20 into a machine during the 3 days we're there. Much of the time will be taken up looking for a place for the wedding reception, but we'll still have a lot of free time.

With all the times I've been to Vegas, there are still properties I haven't set foot in. And for those looking for culture, there's art museums on the strip including Steve Wynn's private collection. Mega shopping opportunities, including some things are are too expensive for me to even look at! The Bellagio has a wonderful garden conservatory that they change seasonally, it's always very beautiful.

It's quite easy to do Vegas pretty much any way you want. Just like Disney. On a budget? No problem, room deals and cheap dining abound. Don't want to gamble? No problem, you could spend a week exploring the strip almost 24/7, not put a penny into a machine (and yes they have penny machines) and still not run out of things to do.

And if you want fine dining, there is definitely no shortage of places to eat.

When I was in travel agent school, at the beginning of the course we had to stand up and introduce ourselves to the rest of the class and say who we were and why we wanted to be a travel agent. And I said that I wanted to specialize in the escapes from reality - Disney and Vegas. And now I do! Moreso Vegas these days.

I probably wouldn't choose to go there on my own, but I will be going to a conference there in Nov. My guess is that I'll probably spend more time at the conference than on the Strip.

It was OK. We took our sons (then 14 and 16) last year. There just wasn't that much for them to do so back we went to WDW and Universal this summer!!

I'd like to go back but not with the boys.

Hate it. We've been there the last two summers for National Dance Comps. Unhealthiest city anywhere. The decent food is way expensive, and the affordable food is terrible. Cigarette smoke is everywhere, even at outdoor concerts.

LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT!!! We are only 5 hours by car away from it and it is a WONDERFUL escape of the Utah winters!! I'd definitely NOT take my kids for a vacation until they are MUCH older but for hubby and I we love it! The museum at the Bellagio (saw Monet's paintings that I'll never get to see anywhere anytime soon) saw a Tom Jones Concert (hooked on those and yes I"m only 33) ate great food, saw O, The Blue Man Group and Cirque, The Forum shops at Caesar's Palace, and never put one cent into a slot machine or onto a table! We always have a great time there but I can see where some people may not think it's their "cup of tea". We are trying to decide if we are going to take dd for her 11th birthday (leaving the boys home) to see Hillary Duff in concert at MGM.

When people tell you "I hate WDW" you probably think to yourself "well, they only go during the crowded summer" or "they've never planned their trip well" or "they never visited BB or TL" or "boy, are they nuts or what!?"

When people say "I hate Vegas" I automatically assume they mean they don't enjoy the STRIP. Las Vegas is quite a bit more than the Strip, but most casual tourists never CHOOSE to explore the beauty and wonder of our outlying areas. That's fine! Each person should make of his/her vacation exactly what they choose, but don't assume you "know" Vegas.

Where I live I am 30 minutes from the Strip, 30 minutes from a ski resort, 45 minutes from Red Rock Canyon Conservation Area, and 60 minutes from Lake Mead/Hoover Dam. Take a day and do that city tour, then make a broad sweeping statement about how you "hate Vegas".

I agree. The surrounding area is breathtaking. Some of the most beautiful scenery I have ever seen.

I can only say that for me, I hated our time in Las Vegas on the strip. It was 103 - too hot for me to enjoy. We had an obnoxious bus driver and I had to try to distract my children's eyes from the pornographic trading cards that littered the sidewalks. We loved the MGM Lions. We enjoyed seeing the Venetian, but what we had to go through to do it, I hated and would choose not to do again. It was my mistake for bringing my kids there. We did enjoy the RV park we stayed at. And the drive in and out of town had some beautiful scenery.

I am going back for my second trip in sept. I didn't really think I liked it all that much when I went the first time. Not a big gambler, only spent 5 bucks in a slot machine. But did enjoy the different resorts and thinkgs to see. There was so much we didn't get to do the last time that we are going back for 5 days this time.
I think Vegas can be a great place for many different people, but it is NOT all gambling or the strip

I never wanted to go to Vegas. I am not a big gambler. Well, my wonderful brother won $2,500. on a scratch off lottery ticket & with that money paid for me & hubby to go with him & SIL. That was my first trip. Have been back 2 more times after, staying in a timeshare each time. It is a great place to go. Always something to do, places to eat. We rent a car so we don't just go on the strip. Between Vegas & Kissimmee, they are my favorites. I don't think it is a place for kids. Just my opinion.

Love it so much we are moving there! Not on the strip mind you. Probably about 30 minutes from there. The mountains are gorgeous! Cost of living is much better than Long Island.

It's definitely the strip I hate. I'm sure the surrounding area
is great. I actually spent a week in Vegas in the 70's and never
went to the strip. My boyfriend's aunt had a diner there. We
saw some beautiful scenery. This poll is about Vegas on the
Strip. Sorry to cast deprecation on the whole area-not my intention.

I have gone there three times and love it. My brother in law them also lives there, so it's not just going there to gamble.

No option for me either. Been there twice. Stayed at luxor--just dh and I, then 1 other trip with my dh, 2 oldest boys, my mom and grandma--stayed at Excalibur.
The boys had a good time swimming and going to the game place we found. We did have a good time but Im not sure we will ever go back.

Well, the highlight of any Vegas trip for me is the drive back to the airport there, to leave. I have been four times, two conventions, one wedding, and one birthday trip for Natalie (our very good friends' DD and Natalie are same age, they are 'Vegas people')

I do think it was good for me to see it once, if only for the scope and grandeur of the place, it is a sight to see. And I enjoyed the 2 Cirque shows I have seen, -O- (twice) and Mystere.

But for that little good, I hate the smoke, which is everywhere, the porn slappers that create a gauntlet to run on the walkways, the litter of discarded porn ads that litter those same walkways, the constant din of noise in the hotels/casinos. I don't gamble, so no diversion there for me, LOL. For me, if I never go back, it will be fine with me.

I did very much enjoy a day trip to Hoover Dam, Lake Meade on one trip and the scenery of the desert area surrounding the city.
