Vegan/Vegetarian Restaurant/Dining Help Thread

Does anyone know if there is still a vegetarian/vegan menu at San Angel Inn? if so anyone know what's on it?
We ate there in May. The person who seats you picks up your menus just before they escort you to your table so be sure to ask them to pick up a vegetarian menu for you.

There are only two items on that menu and you can find a description of them here: http://allears.net/menu/menu_mexveg.htm This menu is dated May 2012 so I'm not sure if the prices are up to date.

Ate at Brown Derby today and was thankful to know that the noodle bowl was as tasty as ever, if not tastier! DH and I were very happy with it. And DS even tried it and thinks he might order it in the future once he's 10. Hello 3 $29 meals....

Yes. Ate there in September. I took a picture, and sent it in for the live thread in the dining reviews. I have no clue how to post pics myself. However, they have
...
Plato Vegetariano--Great combination of sauteed mixed vegetables (carrots, red bell pepper, green bell pepper, chayote, red onions, garlic and green onions) served over a bed of flour tortillas and black beans

Ensalada De Vegetales--Selected lettuce w/ tomatoes, jicama, carrots, red bell peppers, avocado and onions, served w/ choice of low fat italian dressing or house made honey mustard dressing

I got the first option. It was wonderful! I hate carrots and usually pick them out, but could not taste them in this. Loved it!!

Wow how super frustrating that must have been!
When I worked at Nutrition World, we got in a shipment of these new sugar free cookies.

Hello there!
My husband and I are taking our first kidless trip in a few weeks for his birthday. We're just going for the weekend and I want to book a meal at a nice restaurant at a resort. If to had to have one vegan meal, where would it be. We are both vegan and I was thinking 1900 park fare or one of the animal kingdom restaurants.. We have never had a table service meal before as we usually stay offsite and grab a meal at a neighboring restaurant.
Thanks!

We just got back form 2 weeks in WDW!! I took notes and a few pics (it was hard to remember to take pictures when trying to feed yourself and a 2 year old). But as soon as I get them uploaded, I will share. We had some great experiences and some not so great :scratchin

DD15 is an ovo-lacto vegetarian, has been strict for 8 years and LOVES cheese. We have an ADR at Le Cellier (DH is so NOT a vegetarian) and she would like the soup, minus the bacon. Has anyone ever asked for it that way? Is it possible?

If not, guess she is going to have to have the pasta.

TIA!

The bacon is cooked in the soup but it also has chicken broth anyway.

Thanks! Even though she is a vegetarian, sometimes she has to have chicken broth in things and will accept it grudgingly (ie: rice cooked in chicken broth and then covered in tomato sauce), but the bacon would set her off.

We were told the same thing, but I will say the LeCellier chef made me an amazing vegan dish last year.

Thanks! She thinks the pasta dish sounds okay. Funny thing, she LOVES raw veggies, but does not really care for cooked ones. We are definitely going to ask.

I am curious, has anyone ever requested (and received) vegan selections for the Wishes dessert party? When I look at photos of the dessert party offerings, I have to assume few if any of the standard selections are vegan.

Thanks!

I've seen an allergy safe platter with special cookies, cake, fruit, and sorbet. It all looked like prepackaged stuff but something if you really want to go

Is Chef TJ still at 1900 Park Fare? If not, does anyone know if he's at a different resort restaurant?

We're going to have a night before and after our upcoming cruise on the Disney Fantasy, and we were thinking of making a special trip to WDW for a few vegan meals.

Thanks!

Just wanted to bump this up, because I have the same question! We haven't been to 1900 since DD was 2 and DS was an infant. It would be great to go again, but not if the food is going to be bad/non-vegan-gluten-free for me.

Keep posting reviews of vegan meals!! I need to make my reservations! :rotfl:

I will just repeat my prior recommendations of Teppan Edo (teppanyaki place in Japan at Epcot) and Ohana. Teppan Edo will cook your food first, and will totally customize your meal. My kids LOVE eating there, mostly for the show (DS devours the Yum Yum sauce). Ohana, well, I was SO stuffed after that meal, it was sick. I posted photos long ago, but they made me special bread, appetizers, salad, stir fry, and a cookie sundae. You could have rolled me out of there! It was amazing, but it took FOREVER. So that was the only down side.

Oh and we previously had a fantastic experience at Kouzzina, on the Boardwalk. They were thrilled to make me a special vegan meal of several side dishes. It was fantastic!! And the kids loved the make your own cupcake dessert and watching the kitchen "show". Anyone been there lately?

Okay here are some of my food reviews, hopefully they help someone :) My husband is a vegetarian and my son (2 years old) and myself eat mainly vegetarian as well, but not all the time. I found it hard to have a toddler eat vegetarian at WDW since he can’t chew lettuce so any type of salads were out, a lot of the veggies were not cooked soft enough for him to chew and he isn’t good at biting sandwiches or burger type things, so I ended up having to order a lot of meat meals to split with him because my husband is a strict vegetarian and I am not. I didn’t want him to eat mac n cheese for 14 days :(

Landscape of Flavors- (Art of Animation food court)

Veggie Burger- This was good (my husband said it was his favorite veggie burger of the trip), it was a little bit spicy for me, but tasty, too spicy for DS. It is less of a “fake meat” type burger and more of a vegetable and bean burger.

Kids Mac N Cheese- this was one of the tastier mac n cheeses that we found, DS inhaled it, and it could have easily been an adult portion.

Veggie Pizza- My husband said this was just good, sort of just okay. Typical Disney fast food pizza I guess.

Breakfast- We all got the French Toast and fruit one day and it was not very good. Dry, not a lot of taste. Even DS didn’t finish his piece and he loves french toast!

Egg White Frittata- Very good, I only got to taste a few bites because DS loved this so much.

Sci Fi Diner- We both got the Veggie Shepherd’s Pie and it was good (a tiny bit spicy...again too spicy for our toddler). It was huge and I couldn’t finish it. It was so dark in there my picture is awful- sorry. This was nothing to write home about, but a decent meal. Our waiter was very confused about what vegetarian meant, he was mixed up on a lot of the dishes and struggled a little. We chose this for DS and unfortunately he didn’t even seem all that interested in the place- ha!

Sanaa- Excellent! I only got pictures of the Naan Bread and dips. We got the Roasted red pepper hummus, tamarind chutney, and mango chutney. All of it was delicious. DS loved all of it. We both got the Vegetarian sampler and we ordered 4 different sides and all shared- they were all delicious. The tofu one was spiciest, I can’t remember what they were all called. My son had to get the chicken pot pie (which was really good if there are any carnivore kids in your group). We were a little disappointed in the desserts here. The only vegetarian dessert was the rice pudding that was just okay, we aren’t big on rice pudding.

La Hacienda de San Angel- Very good. I got the veggie tacos and I thought they were delicious. My husband got the veggie enchiladas and also said they were very good. My son got the cheese quesadilla meal. They also bring you big bowls to share of rice and black beans. It was all tasty!

Be Our Guest- We both got the quinoa ratatouille dish and we both liked it. My husband also got the potato leek soup and I got the french onion soup and both were very good. The dessert options here were disappointing, the only vegetarian option is the lemon meringue and Dh doesn’t care much for lemon desserts so we both passed. It was definitely a fun experience though and we were glad we did it.

Tusker House- FABULOUS!!! MY NEW FAVORITE!!! We did breakfast here one day and it was very good. The chef was so nice and there were plenty of delicious options for all of us. We also did dinner here one night and it was my FAVORITE meal of the whole trip. It was seriously delicious. The chef was so nice again (and happy we came back). We ate so much, we just sat there till we couldn’t fit any more in. Almost everything on the dessert counter was vegetarian, so DH was thrilled. Definitely try all the cous cous dishes and I think they were called samoas? The little fried veggie potato things, they were amazing. Many of the things we enjoyed were vegan too so I would definitely put this on a “must do” list.

Rose and Crown- YUM! The stone pie is delicious. And this picture makes it look small, but it is not. It is like a quiche, and very good. It is very big and the sticky toffee pudding dessert was also delicious.

Boma- We did breakfast here twice and it was delicious as always. The chef was so nice and even made my husband a special omelette. Everything was so tasty and the french toast bread pudding with either the banana carmel sauce or the pecan carmel sauce was to DIE for. Seriously amazing. We both ate enormous plates full even though we were stuffed.

Crystal Palace- We did breakfast here for DS’s birthday and we all enjoyed it. The chef didn’t seem totally friendly he sort of just said “anything that doesn’t obviously have meat in it is fine.” We found plenty to eat and it was all good, but for some reason we both felt like it was missing something, I guess we are just Boma lovers :)

The Mara (Animal Kingdom food court)-

Vegetable flatbread- Pretty good. I am not super into the flatbread craze, but it was good and filling.

Falafel sandwich- My DH got this and said it was pretty good, nothing amazing.

Pumpkin cheesecake- We got this about 4 times it was so good and we were excited that it was gelatin free.

Chefs de France- Delicious!!! DH and DS split the Macaroni and both loved it. I got the veggie lasagna and loved it. For dessert we got the creme brulee and the chocolate mousse and both were excellent. We are excited we got to see Remy before he leaves, but I would definitely recommend this place even without Remy.

The Wave- Dh got the curry vegetable stew and loved it. The dessert options here were limited to ice cream. We did like the ice cream trio dessert, but we had a lot of ice cream and were hoping for something different. But everything we ate was very good and we were able to walk up without a reservation- yay!

The Plaza- Dh got the veggie burger and said it was pretty good (he liked the AoA burger better). The milkshakes were delicious, but huge! We wished we had split one.

Counter service- At the Magic Kingdom we ate the Lighthouse sandwich at Columbia Harbor House about 3 times, very good. My husband also liked the nutella waffle at Sleepy Hollow.

At the Animal Kingdom counter service was really hard. The little stand outside the Flights of Wonder show had the Pita Bread and hummus snack pack which was good, but there really wasn’t much to be found.

We didn’t spend much time at DHS, but we ate at the ABC Commissary and DH got a veggie burger and they had to bring one in from Sci Fi. He said it was just okay.

At Epcot we ate at Sunshine Seasons which was good, they said the cheesecake here was vegetarian so we got that and it was very good. We also ate our way around the Food and Wine Festival and had several good desserts.

Sorry I don’t have more pictures!

Thanks for all the info and photos! Making me hungry.

Just wondering, when you refer to some desserts not being vegetarian, are you referring to them including animal gelatine products? Sorry if its just me with the confusion but I wouldn't have thought that many desserts would contain gelatine.

It is surprising but most restaurant and bakery desserts contain gelatin. Whipped cream, cheesecake, cobblers (in the sauce), mousse, frosting (most cakes and cupcakes at WDW), sometimes even yogurt...and many other items you wouldn't expect all have gelatin added in to help it keep it's shape, make it thicker, or give it a longer shelf life. When you make these desserts at home no normal person adds these things in, but when you eat out you always have to check because it is most likely in there. We really struggled with desserts and my husband has a huge sweet tooth. Tusker House was a huge treat because there were lots of dessert items that were vegetarian and I think I gained three pounds just from that meal alone ;)

Wdw add gelatin to cupcakes? Noooooo! This can't be true. I was so looking forward to trying them all. Are there any that are veggie?

I hadn't even thought about the cobbler darnit.

Eh most Disney desserts are not good anyway. But if someone finds out that that pyramid shaped thing at Tusker has gelatin in it please keep it to yourself ok? That one is delish.

I've had two disney cupcakes before realizing the issue (it's in the frosting and filling to falsely help it keep shape and look pretty) and honestly they were awful. You want to think they are good because of the cost and how pretty they are but no.

However Babycakes cupcakes are vegan, and as long as you eat them fresh they are quite good. I first thought they were bad but I had waited two days to eat them. Fresh they are good.
