VDH Points Chart is Live!

Just came back from Disneyland. Stayed at the DLH because we love it there, the rooms are so charming. I got a good rate through a convention, $380 per night before taxes... might just keep doing that instead of buying VDH and call it a day. We have enough points anyway.

Unless Disneyland Forward is announced to be moving along quickly and suddenly DLH has both parks at its doorstep.

It occurred to me that when the transient occupancy tax is baked into dues, if someone stays on banked points and the tax rate increased between dues assessment/collection and the stay, DVC might be on the hook for the difference. Could that be a reason for the change? It will be interesting to see whether VGC dues for 2024 stop including the tax.

Math wise I think I should just stay at GCV on points and pay cash for DLH but my won't heart will let me own GCV and not DLH! Maybe I should sell GCV and buy VDL so my conscience is clear.

So, my kids spring break is the last week of March.

VDH Week: 2BD 594 points 1BD 394
VGC Week: 2BD 646 points 1BD 462

So, that seems like a pretty substantial savings to me. Now, if you include the additional tax, it probably just evens it out.

Next time period: Fall Break in Oct:

VDH Week: 2BD 438 points 1BD 292
VGC Week: 2BD 390 points 1BD 291

So, neutral on the 1BD, but 10% more than the 2BD… BEFORE the taxes.

So overall, I think my strategy of buying more VGC ended up being the correct choice. Especially since my wife wants to get a rental car to explore LA or go to the ocean in OC on some days.

Disneyland Forward is probably 10-15 years away at the earliest. They don’t even have a plan. The art we have seen is just conceptual in order to show possibilities and gain favor to get zoning changes. It will probably be over a year or more before that’s even decided, and then Disney will start the design and planning stage… you know how long it takes Disney to construct somthing.

My thought would be it doesn’t matter what since dues are calendar year…but, maybe the estimated amount owners are billed turns out low, and DVD would be covering based on the guarantee?

The hottest time of the year here in Orange County is absolutely from the first or second week of August through the middle of September. It has been getting progressively warmer over the last dozen years as well. Perhaps 100 is a slight exaggeration, but mid to high 90's absolutely isn't. Never said there was any humidity here, or bugs. Or hurricanes.

The point being, that the period discussed is by far the least enjoyable time of year to be here, regardless of how exponentially worse it might be in Florida (the weather here is always better than somewhere else).

We are in Oregon and I don’t do heat well but I am stoked to see the reduction from VGC for this time period as it’s a time our kids are out of school. We have traveled during this period before and it’s been warm but fine-light years better than Orlando in May, that’s for sure. We own at VGC and are mainly a DL family. I’m not sure yet if we will buy at VDH though I love the history and the aesthetic-biggest drawback for us is the small number of 2 bedrooms.

Yeah the low number of non studios is a bit alarming for this kind of commitment. 1-2 nights in a fully occupied deluxe is okay but anymore then that I (and I think most families) will like/need more room.

I made up a 2 bedroom comparison chart between VDH, VGC, VGF & Riviera for my wife. Overall the points charts looks pretty good to me, other than June which would be one of our likely times to visit as it lines up with when my grandkids get out of school in the Sacramento area.

Bottom line is that we will be buying and just need to figure out just how many points to get!

Yes, that’s what I was wondering, whether DVC would be on the hook for the difference if the rate increases. It’s much cleaner to have it paid at time of stay. And as someone mentioned, if VDH owners use their points at WDW or elsewhere, they aren’t paying the tax.

I'm curious if having VDH broken out into more granular travel periods might be an indication of them doing this with VGC in the future. It would just be a redistribution of existing points, so I can't see why they wouldn't be allowed to do it.

Do any of the oldtimers know if they've ever done this at a resort before?

The WDW resorts went from 5 to 7 with the 2021 charts. So it has been done.

There is no reason they can’t decide to do that with VGC.

Yes, they did this to all other resorts a few years ago

Does anyone have any insight to what the "Garden Room" category is all about?

There are probably 2 categories of rooms that fall under preferred. One is likely garden and the other theme park similar to how the boardwalk does its preferred rooms.
