VDH Points Chart is Live!

The hottest time of the year here in Orange County is absolutely from the first or second week of August through the middle of September. It has been getting progressively warmer over the last dozen years as well. Perhaps 100 is a slight exaggeration, but mid to high 90's absolutely isn't. Never said there was any humidity here, or bugs. Or hurricanes.

The point being, that the period discussed is by far the least enjoyable time of year to be here, regardless of how exponentially worse it might be in Florida (the weather here is always better than somewhere else).

I've been do Disneyland a few trips where it was over 100 degrees (late August as well as late September, if I'm remembering correctly.) Definitely not fun so we try to avoid those months now. Of course, at WDW...we plan to avoid most of the year due to weather.

Hardly. It was over 100° exactly two days during that period in 2022 and zero days during that period in 2021 and 2020. The average is 85° and humidity that doesn't even approach Florida.
I was actually there during that period in 2022, and I am almost positive there were more than two days over 100. Both days we were in the parks I believe were at 100+ (or if not, extremely extremely close), and those temps continued onto the weekend when we weren’t there.

That being said, the crowds were almost nonexistent, and once the sun went down, it cooled off a lot. The days were hot, hot though, and I don’t even mind heat that much. But agree overall still much different than a Florida summer (and early fall and late spring)!

It’s matching our AP holiday blockouts. Top pass is blocked through 1/2 and the next level down is blocked through 1/6 with I think access on 1/4 and maybe 1/5.
Right. I'm curious if similar will happen at WDW in the future. The WDW sorcerer passes is the 2nd from top. I know in 2022 1/1 was available. I think in 2023 1/1 was blacked out but 1/2 was available. In 2024 the blackout is through 1/3 so we can't get in until 2024. WDW is slowly pushing the blackout dates.

Unless I’m reading this wrong the week I’m staying at VGC right now which should cost about 390 points at the Grand Cal is 475 points at VDH. Other later spring and early summer trips would be also significantly higher in points. I’m almost about to email my guide and ask him if this is a joke or an late April fools prank…

Edit - in a 2BR

I think this could be a rebalance at VDH with the 2 beds being dedicated compared to Vgc being all lock offs.

Well, it will be over 100° for most of that time, but yes (with zero bugs). 😉

Maybe not this year. The mosquitos are already swarming around in much higher numbers than they ever have. Vector control is gonna have quite a job this summer.

Lit, as in as hot as a fire maybe. That’s the absolutely hottest time of the year around these parts and when you’re about 90% likely to see temps knocking on 100°. About 0% humidity of course, but it gets smokin hot around here in August and September.

Well, the Texans won't mind. We are usually at or above 100 then, sometimes with a little humidity in Central Texas.

So for one month it's like Orlando's April and October?

Pish posh! April is really nice in Orlando. October sometimes. Orlando isn't really that bad, but I live in Texas and don't like to be cold. It's all relative.

Our mosquito problem is almost nonexistent versus most of the south (although those little ankle biters seem to be increasing in numbers). Plus, we don't have the myriad of other flying pests (love bugs, etc.), that they deal with. Fortunately, unlike the rest on my family, the skeeters never bite me.

Those massive swarms of midges are also a problem in summer, especially along the river, but even then our variety are mostly the non-biting kind (thankfully).

Exactly. The L.A. August averages are 85/66, about the same as Orlando's April (85/63) and September (85/67). They're all pretty good months with scattered hot days.

We are planning 6 nights at a VGC studio in June 2024. It will cost us 128 points. Just for fun, I looked at what a studio for 6 nights on the same dates would cost at VDH. 144 for standard and 162 for preferred.

I have to admit, I'm a bit surprised that some days are more expensive than at the VGC. I hope that doesn't mean the VGC 2025 points chart will be drastically different with all of these wonky seasons. Especially since we like to travel in June.

I hope they don’t change VGC to have to pay taxes on stay. I would rather have them baked into my dues. They are just making things more complicated. I also hope they don’t take parking away from VGC, even those I didn’t park there.

A much more wise and knowledgeable DVC veteran will hopefully chime in and help us understand why this isn’t likely but here is my rookie attempt to add some wisdom -

I don’t think this is too much of a concern as they can only change the charts so much and they must add to some to take away from others. Right now I’m feeling like I lucked out and got in when VGC prices dipped last year. I didn’t get right to the recent bottom, but I’m guessing VGC prices will edge up a bit based on this news if it’s all true…

If they do decide to move forward with each day costing money for parking, it is a big slap to local owners. One of the nice perks is that parking is included with the dues so you really don't think about it. If you have to pay $35 a night for parking, why not save some extra money and stay hotel side? I had pointed out that the same rooms during my potential December stay back when I called was roughly $100 to $150 more per night than the regular hotel rooms. Now they are making me pay even more with parking fees???? Gosh DVC, someone must be a penny pincher in that board room

If this translate to lower dues (but how do we know its lower we have no reference) then I can see benefits if you save up your points for a splurge since parking should be per night (or will it be base on points used?) or for me if I choose to car service in from the Airport. This way I am not paying yearly dues for parking I didn't use that year.

I don’t think hotel guest at the California resorts get free parking. Only DVC at VGC.
