VDH Opening

If I'm at Disney, I prefer a themed environment so I would do BWV over Swolphin, but would also prefer BCV (or better yet, YC if I could book it with points!)

Yes, Swolphin has room service and other amenities may be more convenient, but I would be elsewhere if that's what I wanted. I do think that if you just need beds and a shower, it's got a great location and can be a great value. But we don't go to the parks commando anymore and like to enjoy the resorts.

I will always choose BWV over the Swolphin. Staying at the Swolphin feels like a work convention hotel and I get enough of that outside of personal travel. Perfectly nice (and I do agree the pools are lovely) but the overall lobby/room environment is not what I am looking for on vacation and for me, not at all comparable to staying DVC.

I loved the swan and dolphin and always stayed there pre-DVC. But then I had a kid... Stayed there once with him, and that was it. BWV ever since.

That said, I'd still recommend the swan or dolphin to childless couples who aren't DVC.

This is a feature not a bug.

I’m listening to a podcast that said there is good chance that steakhouse 55 is coming back (at about the 21 minute mark)

If so, that’s great for us VDH owners.
Discovery Tower/VDH is getting a 'fine dining' restaurant? Since when?

You've gotta take what Dave says with a HUGE grain of salt. Having said that, we've known SOMETHING was going back in there since at least last summer, so Steakhouse 55 / Granvilles could very well be the answer. The resort needs a steakhouse.

Sounds good. It would make sense to open it back up when the new tower opens up. I’ve never eaten there but I hope it’s good if it opens. I’d be happy to have a solid lunch or dinner option nearby.

We HAVE known something was going back in there for about a year now (maybe longer), and the resort desperately needs a steakhouse. Right now, your choices are Fleming's at the Westin, or Morton's or Ruth's Chris over on Harbor.

Wait are you suggesting leaving the bubble? I hope Steakhouse 55 comes back or at least something equivalently nice. Never had a chance to try yet. Otherwise I see potato balls and/or xlb as my dinner options in the near future for my VDH stays.

I am an owner at Aulani and we go there on a yearly basis. We live on the West Coast. When the family and I went to Disney World for 5 days before our Disney Cruise, we stayed at the Swolphin and we loved it. My kid loved the pools and I loved the size of the room. It was a one bedroom and the best part is that we stayed on Marriot points. I did not have to pay anything and my status got us a room upgrade (huge room) with a great view. You all already know that location is great for Epcot and Hollywood Studios and the boardwalk area. I will 100% stay there again with my family, especially since we are at the parks most of the day. For transportation, we used the MinnieVan service for the car seats.

I grew up in Anaheim, even had prom at DLH, so the bubble is an artificial construct for me. We just go where we wanna go.

Looks like earlier speculation about more points being declared (following waitlists being filled) has some merit. A new 33-page "Covenants & Restrictions" document was recorded in OCRW yesterday, document number 2023000120736.

This is the type of document that contains updates to Condo Plan and/or declarations.

I would totally pay $33 to view it to confirm, but it requires mailing them money and then waiting for them to mail the documents back. Like it's the 90s or something.

I get that. We are a family of 6 and back in the day a traditional hotel room or 2 simply didn’t work well. Not just at Disney but in general. An actual kitchen, a table that sat 4+ enabled us to save a significant amount of $.

Can you apply the 2023 buyback of points or any other “incentives” for just a 50 point add on? Trying to figure out what the cost and cheapest way a 50 point add on would be. Thanks!

Well... For the first time since 2006, I decided to give in to temptation and add on... 150 point purchase (75 + 75), taking advantage of of the $20 incentive plus the $22 for MB. This ensures a full Direct Membership until I'm dead and gone and 2 contracts to will to my niece and nephew... Points have not hit my account yet but glad to be able to get the 11 month for DL... Makes up for my bad decision not to add on 150 at VGC...
