VB - policy issues, towels etc.

I think as long as they're upgraded to more of a "beach towel" size and are plusher than those other dinky threadbare towels that are toddler sized then it will work out. FWIW while we were at VB last summer I said something to a CM who was picking up unused leftover towels about the enormous number of towels they must go through between the pool and the beach and she said they are laundered in Orlando with all the other resort pool towels and trucked back & forth!!:scared: I couldn't believe they weren't laundered on site or even locally. :laundy: This move will likely reduced some of that or perhaps they DID change to doing them locally. With the old way a pool towel is a pool towel and they're all the same. If they didn't change where they're being laundered then someone will have to sort through which ones are VB towels and which ones are WDW pool towels. They won't be interchangeable any more.

Which is what I've said above, as far as for extra pool towels.
I guess I wasn't clear. I don't know anywhere that keep track that will give you significant numbers of towels, it's generally officially one per person but often they don't keep track enough that they always know. Given a large number of extra towels is not a reasonable idea.

Sheesh, now that the airlines are charging for checked (and non-checked) luggage, and I'm going to have to start packing beach towels just when I was trying to cut down on luggage? Yow! I'm sure I'll go with the flow, I never use the pools much although I generally use 2 towels for showering...but it makes me wonder, why don't they just count out your "towel allotment" at the front desk when you check in and say, there you go, return them when you check out?? or something like that. Why does that make me think of summer camp? Oh well, whatever...it's not going to ruin my vacation one way or the other. :)

I've seen 3 main ways that resort handle pool towels which are a major cost for a resort in a number of ways. These include:
  • The number of the occupancy with an indication the guest is responsible for them.
  • A check out system, normally limited to one per guest.
  • Held at the pool out for usage but often supposed to be left there and not returned to the room.
All are reasonable policies. I don't know of anyone being charged for an honestly lost towel with the method that VB uses but I'm sure if they all went missing there would be a charge incurred. I do know of charges with the check out method. It is unreasonable to expect to get around 2 pool/beach towels per person for the occupancy of a unit.

I had the same concern in HHI when they first implemented it there. We are pretty good about not letting towels lay around or hogging chairs, but I'm sure it has happened to some people if they are careless.

In my mind... Careless, really means they are not in attendance and the towels are unused for quite a while. Not many people will steal a used towel or one that was just laid on a chair. JMHO. I think this policy causes people to be more in attendance and less likely to remove another's towel or use their towels to reserve chairs and tables.

This is interesting. I will definately pack our beach towels and bring them with us on our next trip to VB. I can see how it will cut costs. Those old pool towels were terrible and I needed at least 2 to dry off with.
