With all the debate about "so many" people buying at VB with no intention of going there, I am curious just how many people did that. I venture to guess it is lower then some may think. So, how many of you VB owners never intend on going to VB?

Okay, I'll be devil's advocate. What "if" you never knew about DIS, stuck with your original purchase, didn't make a phone call until 6 months out and .... due to the churn of cancellations .... were able to book what you wanted on the first shot? Then, things would work as the guide had indicated. As we all know, just because something isn't available today doesn't mean it won't be available tomorrow.

People were remarking how hard it was to get through to MS in January. Historically, this is because over Christmas a majority of members make plans for the year and then call to book. All these "tentative" plans for the 7-11 month period probably won't change until we approach the 7 month period. Then, things may start to free up once again. If this theory works, September ought to be showing some movement. There should also be things freeing up for 30 days from now as people face that "do or die" deadline.

Of course, the safest thing to do is to buy where you want to stay and call at 11 months from when you want to stay. But not everyone is willing or able to have concrete plans. For them, the buy elsewhere theory may work out.

We are currently in the process of buying at VB. We like the incentive and VB seems to be a beautiful place. We (I more than wife) are waffling it bit on whether it is better to own there or VWL. I know a lot of people have responded with some very good insight. My dilemma is this: We probably will spend 65% of the time at WDW and the rest at VB or HH. I am very flexible as too when I come to WDW and usually avoid the heavily traveled times. It doesnt matter where we stay on property as long as we eventually stay at all of them. Now, is it better to have the 11 month window to get a 1br or more at VB or 11 month window to get studio/maybe 1br at VWL? This is the dilemma and I know it is up to me but it has pros and cons each way

Garret, being flexible will help. But if you plan on visiting off season a lot you should know that is when a lot of DVC members go too. We like it when the points are down and the parks aren't crowded. I have read that people are even having trouble with the first part of November and the month of January. Those are some of the lowest seasons at WDW. And the whole month of December is becoming nearly impossible even before the 7-month window.

I plan on staying at VB, but one of the reasons I bought into DVC was because it allowed you to stay at the different resorts. So sometimes I will stay at VB, sometimes at WDW and sometimes at HH

I added on points at Vero. I still use my OKW points also for Vero. I also have a harder time getting ressies at Vero. I have found it much easier to get ressies at WDW within 7 month window.

Tigger, as well as everyone else, thanks for the reply. I am feeling better and better about my VB purchase.

I answered that I own at VB and go there occassionally but mostly to WDW. But, we also own at OKW, so we combine our points both places. We didn't buy at VB with the intention of just using the points at WDW. VB is a great place too! :)

Maryann, obviously you have seen my original question, what would you do in the given situation. I dont care which resort I stay at on WDW property. Please dont use the " each person has their own preference and has to make their own decision" argument. I have just presented a hypothetical situation and wanted to get some opinions. THanks!

Hey garret,
Just to let you know and be at ease a bit,we own in Vero and just booked a 10day stay at OKW less than 3 months out.

Bought an add-on at Vero with the intent of using those points strictly at VB.

I purchased at VB with the intention of staying everywhere! I really wanted to try all the resorts OKW, BWV, WLV and HHI. I bought in November 2000 for a measly 150 points. I did not use MB because my financial situation did not warrant me using the points and I wanted the use right away. There was no other resorts availible at the time (I knew nothing about resales then)
and I registered a stay at OKW in December for my parents.
I am staying at BWV, yes BWV for an extended Memorial day weekend. (Sat-Tues) I called MS in January, no wait list or anything for a 1 bedroom, preferred.(I never ever planned on getting a standard view with my situation as a VB owner)

My plan was to spend a little money to get into DVC (If you can consider 10 grand little) and depending how I liked it, buy more points at the resort I liked best. Had I known about renting points, I would probably have pursued that route first and then bought. But I digress...

I have had little problems in getting what I have asked for the first time. I understand that people have problems, but I have yet to experience them.
I can't wait to go to BWV in May, Then a cruise and VB in 2002 and depending how I like everything buying more points and going home more!

Thanks for the "real life" info lwaverill! I'm sure it will help people decide what might work for them.

I bought at Vero Beach with the intention of staying at all DVC resorts, but wanted the 11 month window for those possibly hard to get spring break and Christmas reservations and hopefully a little safety in knowing that even if the WDW DVC resorts are full, I had the pricier option of using my points at another WDW hotel. Of course, I'm also a BW owner in case I need the 11 month option there as well.

Vero is a beautiful resort. I should be able to get in all the resorts, except possibly HH since the summer is such a prime season there.

We purchased 50 add on points at VB to spend 3-4 days after being at WDW (OKW). Also these points allow us additional options to visit other resorts at the 7 month window.
