Our kids are getting to an age that I think they would appreciate a trip to Kennedy Space Center... thought about combining it with a beach trip to VB. So tell me -- how close is Cape Canaveral to VB? Has anyone done this? DOes it make sense to day-trip from VB, or would you do Kennedy on the way to or from VB and stay in a hotel? Roughly how much time should one allot to see the Space Center? We are driving from the north... I even thought about sandwiching this trip between HH, then Kennedy, then VB, or something like that... could be a really fun AND educational trip for my crew!

Ideas? Suggestions? We have our pts at BWV, so we would be looking at a 7 mos window -- what would be the best time to go? (In terms of weather and availability at 7 mos window)

(Since we're including the Space Center, I could possibly dub this an educational adventure and take the kids out for at least a few days from school...it's harder to justify a WDW vacation, even with all the wonderful learning opportunities at Epcot, Ak, etc.)

THANKS!!

Cindy

If my memory is any good it is about 1 hour and 20 minutes drive from Vero. The whole thing takes a full day to tour. You have to schedule your activities around IMAX movie showings if you want to see the whole place. Check the website for times, events etc. You need to plan you day much like you would plan a day at Disney if you want to walk away feeling you have done it all.

We did this several years ago - our children were 7 and 9 at the time. We made it a day trip, leaving from and returning to Vero. The drive takes a little over an hour. You could also do it coming or going if you prefer. The Space Center is a full day of touring, even if you don't do it all. Read about what is offered there ahead of time so you can plan your day around your interests (and the attention spans of your children). We enjoyed our visit, but were a bit wistful that we had not just spent the day at the pool at Vero - we only had 2 nights there, and we liked Vero more than we expected. It is very relaxing after being at Disney.

We did that very thing two years ago.

We flew into Orlando, rented a car and drove to VB. After checking out of VB (we stayed at VB two days), we then drove to Kennedy which is about 1 hour and 15 minutes away.

We arrived at Kennedy about 11:00 AM. We did the tour and I think we left Kennedy at 5:30 PM. We didn't do all the of attractions like the Omni-Max (my wife can't handle the size of the screen), but I thought we saw enough.

We were there the in 2002 and they had limited some of the areas that people could go to due to security concerns from 9/11. I am not sure if that has changed since then.

It is definitly worth the time and effort to go!

The drive from Kennedy to Orlando is very easy and takes about 1 hour.

I think everyone should see Kennedy, especially if you remember the moon landing. The size of the rockets and spacecraft is really something.

We also went to the KSC from VB. We left VB in the morning and drove up(little over an hour)to the Space Center. We were there about 5 1/2 hours and didn't get to see everything.
It is worth the visit.:D
