Went to Vero for the first time last week.

Arrived on the day that had two inches of rain! 40 mph winds. We had to pull over several times from the downpours (also, 95 was closed due to wrecks).
When we arrived, we wondered why we had left WDW.
Were awake all night from the storm.

However, the next morning was more promising, with no rain and a lot less wind.
We really enjoyed the actual resort. Very nice.
The waves were still very high. No beach to speak of.

We would love to go back in good weather.

Deb

One more question, are there any tolls ont eh way to Vero from MCO?
Thanks again to the experts on DIS:thumbsup2

Thanks for all the quick answers, after reading this thread we decided to change our plans and we booked today to go this new years eve for a week:cool1: Can't wait to see all these wonderful things and places first hand, we will report back after we get back. Thanks for disdaydreamer for the ocean temps, coming from southern Ontario where it will be snowing, we are going in the ocean (even if it is only up to our ankles:goodvibes ) This trip is going to be a surprise trip for our DD10 and DD7, any creative ideas how to gift it on Christmas morning?:wizard:

Oh yeah... the Polar bear club doesn't even consinder VB. Got that Gulf Stream thing goin on... Let me/us know what you think of the ocean... I'd love to know that we/I can expand our visiting time range to VB.

Have a great trip :beach:

Edit: No tolls.

:woohoo: Hi Disdaydreamer, How did you nab us for Polar bear clubbers?? Actually we have not done the swim but I hear it sure wakes you up!!
To fill in anyone who is not familar with Polar bear swim... It happens in most places around Lake Ontario on New years day. A bunch of swimmers who have or have not been tipsy the night before all run into the icy lake for charity!! I'ts really funny to watch....We will be dunking in the Atlantic this New years day:woohoo:
Thanks for your quick reply, we have learned alot from this dissicussion- thanks all!!

Hey Deb,

Sorry for your timing.... we have experienced that on a couple of occasions with both VB & HHI, but even then we have had a wonderful time. We tend to do the beach resorts before August or after mid October (we almost always do a beach resort). In August 2006 we dodged a bullet with a tropical storm (at VB) that never developed into a hurricane. We were real lucky.

If driving from the airport itself via SR-528, there will be 1 toll near SR-417 for $1.25. I never get on 528 heading eastbound from the airport so there may be a toll plaza on the entrance ramp which would probably cost a quarter. Other than that there are no tolls on the way to Vero.

Hi everyone,
Just got home today :sad1: from our first BC stay at Vero - and WOW, love the BC, dont know if I could ever stay in another room.

The use of the chair swap was awesome!!

Thanks to the swappers before me who dropped off at my room, and for the extras that are now part of the swap.

We added in a fishing pole to each swap when we checked out as we did not need them to take home. One of the people staying with us actually caught a hammerhead shark while surf fishing!! I will post the pics when I get them back.

Again - thanks so much!!!

Also, if anyone has any ?'s for me, ask away.

Paula in CT!

I am going to VB the beginning of June - so I'm 100% sure I'll need a swap going next year - I think this one has swappers till the end of October/early November - so we'll have to check on the condition of everything then (after 6+ months of use) and I'll figure out where to go for next year.

:thumbsup2

Has anyone drove from VBR to Kennedy Space Center along A1A? How long is the drive and will it tak you directly there? Looking forward to this trip as much as WDW, all the positive comments are great:thumbsup2

I sent you a PM.

We are going in early July next year and I would love to get in on a swap too!!!!!

Thanks!!!!!

So, based on the number of PM's I've gotten since last night - lots of people are already wanting a 08 VB swap. I probably won't start to set up things until early March (in time for Spring Breakers). Until then, if you PM me, I'll keep a running list of everyone who has expressed interest and dates will be assigned in order of response. We had two silmultaneous swaps last year because of all the interest, so I am guessing we'll have two (or maybe three) this year as well. Last year's cost was around 13.00 - I'm guessing it will be in that range (10-15) again this year.

Thanks!

Thanks Starbox for coordinating this. I'm so glad to see you back on the boards.....your secret admirer was very worried about you. I think he did finally get in touch with you. Ok, just to be safe, I will PM you again with my dates. Thanks again!!:wizard:

:goodvibes Ah, well the Georgia High School Graduation Writing Test (GHSGWT) is finally over and done with. :teacher: Preparing everyone in my department for a new test scoring mechanism was an all-consuming task. It's nice to have time to watch my weekly hour of TV (House!!!) popcorn:: and check the boards (and even respond) every now and then once more. :surfweb:

But seriously, it's really nice to know that people are looking out for me and care to make sure I'm okay. :goodvibes :goodvibes  :flower3:

Curious about this myself as we will be visiting the space center during our stay at VB in January.

When will you be there in January? We are there from January 1st to 7th (waitlisting for December 31st though)

Just wanted to add that we got a fantastic restaurant tip from a local lady we met while dining at Sonya's. It's a bit out of the way but the seafood was awesome and the all-you-can-eat blue crab and nightly specials were out of this world. The place is called Ozzie's and it's in a little town called Grant about 20 minutes down US1. The night we were there they had 35 cent clams and oysters, I ate to my hearts content for less than $20.

Although the atmosphere was somewhat lacking Ozzie's food was head and shoulders above Captain Hiram's. I'll go to Capt Hiram's if I want great scenery and Ozzie's if I want great food. Definitely well worth the drive. Plus you can't beat a place with newspapers and wooden mallets on the tables, it's just begging you to crack some crabs.
