As far as the Kennedy Space Center / Port Canaveral area - how far of a drive is that? It's not far is it? Just curious...

Annie, the KSC is about an hour north of VB. We went there a few years ago and spent about 3 hours. Could have spent an hour more if we had taken the bus tour throughout the complex. Merritt Island Wildlife refuge is a part of all that property owned by the fed. Lots of cool wildlife. Once when doing the drive through tour we came accross a Florida Panther.

Just wondering if anyone has any additional information about: Discovery Scuba? We visited last year and loved Vero. We'll be visiting again the end of this month. My 12 year old son is interested in scuba. Is he old enough to do this, how long is the activity, and what's involved? Thanks for any info!!!

I have a couple of questions. Is MCO the best airport if you're just going to VB not WDW? Also, I think I missed the information about when the turtles nest or when the hatchlings come out. I'd really love to see one of those.

We saw a turtle laying eggs on our trip at the very end of July/start of August last year. I'm hoping to add info to the FAQ soon. In the meantime, here's an article about turtle walks through the state park:

Hi Disnutt,
The Melbourne airport(MLB) is closer to VB than MCO. But from my area, the fares are usually much higher (like $100 pp higher) to fly to that airport. You'll save about an hour each way by flying into MLB. MLB is only maybe 45 min from Vero Beach.

As for the turtles....we were there the 3rd into the 4th week of Aug and never saw any. (we were looking too). I think your chances of seeing them are better earlier in the summer.

FWIW, I think "the more the merrier" AND that you should just collect payment from the two new joiners. I personally have no problem with your use being no out-of-pocket cost in exchange for all your work - shall we do a poll, other swappers?

If you don't want to keep the second payment yourself (tho you have certainly earned it!), how about you just start a "kitty" for either the next swap group or towards additional equipment (boogie/body boards, maybe?)?

I'm good with either of those ideas, as well - seems quite fair, IMO. VB seems to have some pretty loyal fans, so I'd imagine the swap(s) could last quite a while as long as there continues to be someone to coordinate it (starbox, it needn't be you "forever" should you want to "retire").

I'd feel weird about keeping the money. If there is additional money, I think we should either donate it or use it to underwrite next year's swap (or replace items as needed if this swap keeps going indefinitely).

Right now, I am just waiting for a few swappers to PM me with their first and last names so the labeling list can be sent to our first swappers.
I'm going to call VB this afternoon to let them know we're shipping two packages, and then I'll place the order!
