Variants and the return to normal

Amen for #commonsense!

On that note, I heard one even better than this (we're losing our freedoms) today.... Get this: did you know that by requiring a mask to enter the store, the storeowner is now "practicing medicine without a license" which is a criminal offense? :rolleyes1 I have to say, Covid really has brought out a whole new special level of stupid.

OMG 🙄. Well at least it’s making it easier to spot the really stupid people.

See it’s the no colds or flu that I’m liking. And why I may just choose to wear a mask when I’m on a plane during cold and flu season. I won’t all the time, but then I may.

My husband and I were talking about this. We feel that masks during cold/flu season will probably be a normal for us from now on. And yes, definitely when traveling by plane.

I heard that the cold/flu medicine companies are having problems because no one is getting sick with colds/flus this year...
My cousin’s husband is a physician specializing in infectious diseases and he says unfortunately this is not necessarily a good thing, as far as flu goes they won’t know what strains to develop next years flu vaccine (they usually base it off the previous year) and with common colds... well it’s normal for our immune systems to fight viruses etc -which possibly means we will initially catch more colds and flu after the pandemic as our immune systems have been suppressed. I don’t know if I’m explaining this correctly but I’m sure you can look it up :)
Anyway getting a big off topic I suppose.
When the pandemic is over I can see some people wearing masks when travelling during the cold flu season, I might on the plane too. It’s not that I’m afraid of catching a cold, but it’s such a nuisance during or after travel... ugh.

No. That's an agenda being pushed without any legal basis.

As far as I can tell from some news articles being exposed to less colds/flus likely won’t have an impact on adults immune system. Not sure about kids. I do wonder about them since our immune system develops fair bit from childhood. I better start feeding my kids dirt to help trigger their immune system.

Hopefully someone with far better knowledge than myself can respond.

Yeah nobody really knows, some doctors and scientists are purely speculating at this point. They are saying though it will be harder to predict the strains of the 2021-2022 seasonal flu vaccine as a result. All very interesting.

I could definitely see that! That said, most years are a bit if a crap shoot anyways, and there have been years that were way off the mark, so in the grand scheme of things, it probably won't be a big deal, especially big mask and distancing measures remain as a more common practice.

Haha, that is exactly what I said, the seasonal flu shot is like 60% effective at best so they still have a shot (no pun intended lol)
I don’t think that physical distancing and masks will become the norm once the pandemic is over, majority will ditch it as soon as they can. People would have to stop getting together indoors and that is just not going to happen. As I said before though and few others, some people will wear them especially when flying. I know I probably will.
If most of the plane isn’t though... how good effective with that be? Air travel is the one place masks should remain imo but wishful thinking.

It's hard to say. I know our province has already said that moving forward, even once we're back to "normal" and the pandemic is considered "over", masks will be required from now on whenever people are symptomatic. So no more going to work or school or anywhere really with a cold, sniffles, a cough etc..., unless you're wearing a mask. So, they're definitely going to be here to stay in some capacity, for quite awhile.
