Might eventually be moving to Canada, Vancouver area possibly. Just wondering about the flying time between Vancouver and Orlando and price (I know it's variable)? Also, anybody stay in the Fraser Valley Region and know time to drive to Vancouver approximately?

Any help is much appreciated. Sorry for the short sentences... too tired to think of more words! :-))

John

John: I'm don't live in Vancouver but am familiar with the area as family is & used to travel there a lot for business. The Fraser Valley leads into the city of Vancouver proper. "The Lower Mainland", as it is called, blends into Vancouver and includes much of the Fraser Valley. The amount of time it will take to drive to downtown Vancouver itself would be anywhere from an hour to much more, depending on whether you would be looking at a locationin the east or west end of the Valley.

Flying to Orlando is not a short, or an inexpensive trip. There are no direct flights -- you have to route through Denver, Toronto, or even Montreal on Air Canada. Trip time is anywhere from 8 to 11 hours or even more. Keep in mind you cross 3 time zones. And you'd definitely want to keep an eye on seat sales -- regular economy fare is about $2200 CDN. (It's definitely not cheap to fly here, and it's a big country.) On the other hand, one can also drive to Seattle (2 to 3 hour drive), and try to route through the US. The fares may be cheaper, but you'll deal with exchange on the CDN $, which right now is awful. Hope that helps.

The Vancouver area of British Columbia is beautiful -- anywhere on the west coast is wonderful. And being from Glasgow, you won't mind the rain!

P.S. Getting to Disneyland is easy!

Hi,

We are going to WDW in August, and have been 3 times before from Vancouver.
No it is not inexpensive, but not too bad either. We stay aproximately 2 weeks each time.

If you go in May you should get a prefered rate due to seat sales etc.

August 2002:Flight aprox 7 hours, will stop in Houston 1 hour, Cost $825.00

October 2000: Flight took aprox 7 hours, stopped in Chicago for 45 mins & cost under $700.00; United Airlines

June 1999: Flight took aprox 7 hours, Stopped in Denver for 1hour & cost $725.00

May 1996:Same as above and cost aprox $600.00

Hope this helps!

As suggested previously, flying out of Seattle can be a good bet if you don't mind the 3 hour drive.

Last March - to Orlando - just under $500 CDN

This year coming up in March - to Ft Lauderdale - just under $300 CDN. Flights to Tampa and Orlando were available for not too much more.

I just got back. I flew out og Bellingham which is right across the border. The price of the flight was 350.00 CDN. With stopovers it took 12 hours.

We've been to Orlando 3 times. Our flight time is usually 6:45am (PST) and we usually arrive in Orlando at 6:45pm (EST). Because it's such a long flight with a stopover at either Ft. Worth or Minneapolis (depending on your airline), DH and I usually go without our 2 small children.

My in-laws used to live in Abbotsford (Fraser Valley). It would typically take us 1 hour to travel out there on a weekend to visit. On the weekdays, that'd be a different story, if you factor in rush hour traffic.

Thanks for your replies so far! The prospect of emmigrating is very exciting. My sister and I are hoping to manage a trip out to southern BC in June for just under a week. Amazingly our annual leave coincided so we are desperate to use this opportunity to visit and get a brief glimpse of life over there. We still have many hurdles to leap and hoops to pass through but hopefully will remain focused and pass the relevant exams... after all... I have done finals once, so I should be able to do them again and hopefully more confident now that I'm qualified and working.
Do any of you know of any good amateur orchestras in the Vancouver/Fraser Valley region that would be good to get into?
If you have any more info you'd think would be useful or of interest, I'd love to hear! Please feel free to post here or send a pm/e-mail - whatever is convenient!

Thanks again for the replies,

John :)
