If I was going to spend any time at the resort, I'd stay at Coronado Springs. The pool is great. The hot tub is big. Plenty of adults from conventions there. Easy access to the buses during the day, since most people staying there are in conventions. Best selection of food at the food court. (Although you have to eat at "odd" times since the food court gets packed when convention people eat.) If I was going to spend all my time at the parks and only use the room to sleep, I'd chose any of the value ones.
If I were going for relaxation & night life, I would stay at POR, either Riverside or FQ, since they have the ferry to Down Town Disney. I love both of them. FQ is smaller & less crowded, but Riverside has a nicer hot tub/bar area. If I were going to go to the parks all day & just be using the room for downtime & sleep, I would stay at a value....and since you have no children with you, I would say the AS-Music. It seems that there is less noise & crazyness at that one. It has some nice picnic style benches & garden areas that you can sit in. I myself like the Sports, but I am always with my kids.
POR would be my choice. The pool, hot tub, bar area is nice. The bar in the main lobby is fun. The restaurant is great. Food court had a nice selection and was never very crowded when we stayed. The landscaping is unbelievable. Just gorgeous. POR is my favorite. I would love to stay there solo too, but don't think I can convince the family to stay home.
If I were going solo, I'd definitly choose a moderate resort over a value. The reason being simple...less children. NOW, don't get the wrong idea... I LOVE children. In fact, I work in child care....yes, see now why I would want a resort with less children while on vacation? I would want to be able to relax and POR has some great quiet pools where there are usually less children around and they are nice and relaxing. You can also usually go down to those pools and just sit and read or catch some rays and it's nice and quiet.
Definetly go with the moderate if you have the choice. FQ would be our first choice, it's got great bus service, shared pools and ammenities with POR and it's so cute and compact - no more than a 5min walk even if you end up in the furthest out bldngs. It's got great resturaunts and the boat ride to DTD too
Last year in December of 04 (boy that is weird to say now ) I stayed at Value for my first time. For me, I won't stay at value again unless it means not going to Disney at all.

What's wrong with the Values? I was leaning toward either POFQ, Coronado, or POP. I'd also thought about doing a split stay with POP or All Star Music and then one of the moderates? I leave in 7 1/2 more days to do a split stay at WL and AKL (with son and GD), but just can't seem to decide on hotel(s) for my solo May trip.
Nothing is really wrong with them, I just would never pay rack rate to stay there. They just seemed to lack something. I can't quite put my finger on it.
I did prefer POP over the All Stars though, it just seemed nicer. I guess I have been used to Moderates and to go to Values was just weird.
I went into it expecting less amenities and expecting going into value so that wasn't a big thing for me. I guess I just personally prefer moderates.
How long will you be there? If at least 5 nights I would split the stay between Pop and one of the moderates. Will you have a car? If not, I would choose POFQ for the moderate. If so, any of them are good.
I'm going in 19 days (but who's counting...) with my 11yo and we are splitting our stay--2 nights at Pop (his request) and 3 nights at POFQ (my request).
