Hello everyone! We have a dilemma, family of five to stay at the value ASPOP or moderate POFQ or CSR? I know that the space is greater, but we have small kids. We stayed at the ASM last year and they had a great time. We can stay at the ASPOP for half the price we can stay at the MODs. Is it worth spending the extra money? If so, what MOD do you suggest. I can't help but thinking about the extra money we would have for food and extras if we stayed at the AS. We need help. ::MickeyMo

We love POFQ; it's our favorite of the moderates. The theme is great and the size of the resort is wonderful. I'd much rather pay extra for a moderate, but that's me.

Good luck:wave2:

Save that money. You will not notice the difference, if you enjoyed the AS before. Then next time look into a deluxe if they are offering deals. With the new not worn off POP it should be a wonderful stay.

Can the moderates compete for the kids attention when the AS is so colorful and animated?

Just to clarify, Pop Century is not an All Star Resort. It is a value resort like the All Stars, but there are only 3 All Stars, Movies, Music & Sports.
With that said we have stayed at ASMO 3x and are planning on a few nights at ASSP next month. Our kids love the theming at ASMO. We also visited PC for a quick walk around last December and they really enjoyed all the large icons, especially the "Foos Ball table" courtyard. I think PC would keep the kids attention just as much as the All Stars, mores o than the moderates would.

We have not stayed at POP or CSR. We were at POFQ this April, ASMu in April 2003, and ASMo in April 2002 with our two kids.

The moderates have more amenities than value resorts no doubt - you just have to place a dollar value to the difference. For me the difference is worth $20, $25, at most $30/night. No way would I pay twice as much for a moderate over a value.

You said younger kids - how young? The only difference for the kids is that moderates have a nicer pool area with a slide. If your kids are so young that they are using the kiddie pool, there is no difference. Kids under age 5 may like the theming of POP (giant icons) over POFQ or CSR. The playground at ASMo and ASMu was better than the one at POFQ.

FYI - you said a family of 5, neither value or moderate resorts allow 5 people in a room unless one or more is classified as an infant (under age 3, I think).

The value room is slightly smaller than the moderate. both value and moderate will be quite cozy if you are using both beds and also need a crib.

Long story short go with the value, unless the price difference is minimal. Like I said never been to POP, our kids ages 5 and 3 loved ASMo - Toy Story section. They enjoyed POFQ but not as much as ASMo.

Have a great trip.

Are you sure it is double the cost to stay at a moderate. When we have been to Disney the price difference between a value and moderate is usually about $20 per room per night. For that it is definitely worth it to us to stay at a moderate. One other note on the family of five, Port Orleans Riverside does have rooms that actually accomodate five. Since your children are small you would fit well in these rooms. If all of your kids are three and over you would need two rooms at any value resort and all moderates with the exception of POR.

My Dh and I just had that discussion. We could stay the value for 49/night or at the MOD for 79/night. We opted for the value and applied the extra money that would be spent on the MOD towards more nights in the value. It meant that instead of staying 5 nights we are staying 8 or 9. Hope this helps you out.

Have a great trip,
Tina

I just voted for Pop Century.......which I can't believe because I love the moderates, especially POR and CSR.

BUT....I made my decision on the following presumptions.....

- You have only stayed at AS, so you have not had the moderate experience, and you enjoyed it, so why not again

- Your children are young and therefore may not appreciate the added amenities such as the slides, bike and boat rentals etc.

- Because you mentioned the kids attention to colorful detail, then FQ is not for you. It is a quiet, low key - New Orleans in the daytime kind of hotel. Other than the dragon slide, a few gators and stuff on the food court ceiling...... CSR has some fun stuff like th pool/playground area, and a very colorful main building but still nothing compared to what Pop Century has.

So for the age of your kids, I would save the money. You could use it to eat at more sit-down meals where someone waits on you ! OR add a few Character meals which the kids will love too !

What are the ages of your children? What are their interests?? Do they swim? Is a slide important?

Do yourself a favor and spend just a little extra and go to a moderate.

I really believe the moderates are a great value when compared to the "value" resorts.

We had a similar dilemma and decided to stay at POP. I have stayed at POFQ and LOVED it, but I, like you, thought that I would prefer spending the additional $300-$400 on food, souveniers, and FUN stuff :) We figured, how much are you really in the room anyway, right? I can't really help you out as far as how our experience was because we won't be going until late September, but if your trip will be after that, let me know and I will report when we get back. If your family enjoyed the All Stars perviously then I'm sure the newer POP would be just as great. I know you'll have a GREAT time no matter where you stay :)

I would have to agree that with young kids who have stayed at values before, that is the way to go. The amount of time in a resort is minimal at that age and the big icons are appealing to kids. Will they really know the difference?? I do not think so. They are on vacation. The pool is wet and they are at Disney......Think how much extra that $$$ will buy you in Character meals or an extra night.......Take the difference and put it in a fund towards the next trip or annual passes......Believe me, when they are grown they will not remember anything but that they had fun with their folks who were not uptight over the money issue.

You haven't reported back on the ages of your kids but....unless at least one of them is age 3 or under and can sleep in a pak-n-play crib this debate has really been decided for you as Disney will not allow more than 4 in a room at the values unless the 5th person is 3 or under.

The only on sight options (without spending a fortune anyway) if they are all over 3yrs old is POR in the AB section with a trundle bed, CSR in the Jr.suite or 2 rooms at the value or moderate.

If one of the kids is 3 or under than go for the value resort if the extra ammenities you'd get at the moderate aren't as important as the extra $$ you'd have to spend - as someone pointed out, you can get extra days at the value vs. the moderate. Younger kids will usually be happy no matter where they are staying;)

I had nothing but a great experience at CSR. I loved the theme (Mexican). The decor was great. Service was good (I got sick during my stay and was taken care of). It was not to crowded, like CBR and the buses ran efficiently and no lines.

All together I would recomend this resort to everyone if they had to chose a moderate.

Save your money. You're not getting enough extra. If you need the extra space book 2 rooms in the value resort and get the extra bathroom.

My kids are 8, 6, and 2. The two year old would be sleeping in a crib. They all love to swim.

I appreciate everyone giving input. With all of this info maybe we can make an educated decision.
