value vs moderate??

Theming does play an important part in liking a certain Resort.
Some guests really enjoy Pop. They like the giant big wheel, can of playdough or some other giant icon that brings back fond childhood memories.
Me? I enjoy the icons at the All Stars.

We've only stayed at Pop and CSR. Our family prefers CSR. Don't get me wrong Pop was great and it was our first family trip to WDW so it was magical. My dd's love the fact that the mods have waterslides and the fridges come in handy. .........

Some people choose a resort because of the pool or waterslide.

However traveling as adults on a girls only weekend, we like POFQ much nicer. A large part of it was for the boat to Downtown Disney. ........

Some people enjoy being able to take a boat ride to DTD.

Still others think the monorail resorts are the best.

And there are those who say the Epcot Resorts can't be beat.

It is a wonderful world. People are different and they enjoy different
Resorts and Disney gives us lots of choices.

Linda,

Additionally, even though we can afford more, it still is senseless to overpay just because you can. We look for value in everything we do, but are sure not to penny pinch on quality. When it comes to a vacation resort at Disney, the minimal quality difference from value to moderate or even deluxe just don't come close to being worth it in our opinion.
.

Preds just summed it up with the above statement. There really is a minimal quality difference from value to moderate or even deluxe. (At Disney.)

So when you stay at Disney stay at the resort you think your family will enjoy the most. Just because a resort costs more does not mean the quality is better.

I like the Values myself, especially POP Century. We have stayed there twice, both for a whole week, in January and have never found it over run with kids anymore then any of the other Disney resorts are.

The rooms are small, but if you have 2-3 adults its fine, anymore then that would be too smashed. Pop Century DOES have a bar area indoors which is pretty nice, I also like the food court. To be completely honest I have very rarely eaten at our resorts sit down restaurant when we where at one that had one, and I really do like Pop Century's food court. The food is good and the prices are decent.

Some others call the theming gaudy, yes its bright and it probably doesn't appeal to everyone. I personally do not care for the theming at the All Stars for this reason. But for some reason I think a 3 story rubik's cube is really cool, I dont know why... :)

I also like that Pop Century is fairly compact. Compared to Coronado Springs (my favorite moderate), which is HUGE, Pop you can pretty much get from point A to point B in just a few minutes. The landscaping also while not as ornate as the other resorts is still VERY nice.

But no matter what I would ALWAYS stay at a Disney resort rather then an offsite resort when given the choice.

According to the room diagrams displayed on an earlier post, there are no room safes at Port Orleans. I was under the impression there were.

Can someone confirm or deny this?

There is a lot of difference in QUALITY, just not in "service". Two very different things. The furnishings and linens at the deluxe resorts are far better QUALITY than at the values. When I travel I want to have furnishings and linens that are similar to what I have in my home, otherwise I'm not comfortable. Frankly I'd rather stay home than deal with matchbook sized bath towels and rough linens. Oh--and triple sheeted beds. I HATE hotel beds that aren't triple sheeted--that's just gross.

At the GF the toiletries are better QUALITY than at any other WDW resort.

At the deluxes the beds are queens, not doubles, and the rooms are consierably larger. You can almost fit two value rooms into one average GF or CR room.

But besides quality, there are more amenities, and onsite amenities such as room service, lounges, a variety of restaurants, a variety of shopping choices and so much more are what you pay for at the deluxes.

But this thread wasn't about deluxes, it was about the difference between the values and mods, and my original post on that topic is the truth and for the most part quite objective.

There ARE in wall safes in those resorts.

Disney does charge a premium price for their Deluxe resorts.
Deluxe guests are paying for location and amenities not for stellar customer service.
Many guests are disappointed because they think the GF is a 5 star hotel.......
The GF is rated 4 diamonds by AAA but most sites rate it as 3 and a half.
The Poly and CR are usually considered 3 star hotels.

I pretty much concur with everything you said. We too can afford the more expensive resorts, but frankly they're boring and seem so un-Disney. Additionally, even though we can afford more, it still is senseless to overpay just because you can. ........

Disney's value resorts are a total bargain. You get so many perks (Disney theming, Disney transportation, and EMH)
Any of Disney's resort guests (even those staying at a value or mod) are allowed to shop, dine, use the transportation or spa facilities at any of the Disney Resorts. (Of course pool hopping is not allowed.)

Yes any of Disney's guests (even those staying a value)can take advandage of the lounges, a variety of restaurants, a variety of shopping choices, transportation and spa facilities that are offered at any of Disney's resorts.

But you lose the convenience of having them right outside your door.

That's a BIG part of paying a permium price for the deluxes--the convenience to services, amenities, and the parks in general.

Was the mod noticeably roomier/had better storage, or not really? I can't picture whether the extra space really matters or not.

A mod has 54 square feet more than a value.
So if both the mod and the value were 27 feet long that would mean the mod is 2 feet wider. Just enough room for a double sink instead of a single.
That would also give you 2 extra feet between the foot of the bed and the TV.
Not much extra storage space.

Have fun at Disney.

could someone compare the moderate resorts vs the value resorts?? are the value resorts overrun with kids, how often do the buses come, how far to the parks? that kind of stuff. we have stayed at POR and AKL but we have ressies at POFQ and were trying to decide if it is worth switching to a value resort. we like to stay at different resorts and we have steered away from the value.. any input??? thanks

My very first visit to WDW was last Sept and the only reason my best friend and I chose POFQ was TWO sinks :lmao:
And that was only because when we travel we find that most sinks in most hotel rooms have such a very small area and we just wanted to have lots of room for a 9 day stay.
When she and I visited my two sisters at Pop, the room was just as nice and the sink area was larger than I thought it was and we still would have had lots of room. So this year we are going to stay at Pop
But we also loved our Mousekeeper, Fanny. We have pictures of her and the towel animals she made for us.

The Values are a great Value.

The Theming is more in line with Disney than anything else. It isn't even close to obnoxious imo. Each building has a statue in the central area. All Star Movies has various figures from Disney Movies. Music has music things, and Sports has Generic Sports figures. These didn't do much for me. I'd rather they be actual existing team oriented such as the Yankees or Cowboys, but they aren't. Pop has various things from each decade. Some of them are Disney movie figures, others are items like a Mickey Phone, and others are just from the decade like a big wheel. Plus, each building's side is dressed up in something from the period. The 80s building at pop had the railings decoraded to look like a Pac-Man Game and had rubic's cube stairways. It was really cute.
The Values have the best food courts on the property. I think Pop's here stands out above the others. But the others weren't bad. One Value does indeed have an inside lounge area, Pop Century.

The Mods do have the sit downs, but the truly good meals are to be had at the deluxes in most peoples' opinions. And most of the time, we're at or near a park at dinner time anyway. So the mods become a tad inconvenient in that regard unless you don't intend to go back to the park after dinner. So the sit down may come into play once, but to be honest, if we're that pooped, I'd rather just go to a food court and plop anyway.
As to the amenities. Other than the pools, most of the amenities at the deluxes and Mods are available to anyone.

As to the kids and noise.
All Star Sports usually draws the groups, All Star Movies is of course kiddie catnip, a kid magnet. All Star Music is much more quiet. Although the new suites may draw more kids into that one. At all resorts, The side opposite the pool is much more quiet than Pool side and Buildings without a nearby pool were quieter still. Also, the closer you are to the center building, the more trouble with noise you're likely to have, especially if you're on one of the main routes. But that's true of any hotel or resort.

I hope that helps.

We stayed at the ASMo when the children were younger, it was loud and colourful, perfect for us then. We stayed at the Akl last year which was brilliant as the kids are older and could appreciate some of the nicer theming and of course the animals.

I think you know your own family and should chose your stay accordingly.

:) We go to Disney about 10 times per year ranging from Saturday night only stays, to long weekends, to our usual full week during the summer. We have stayed at almost every resort on property (Contemp, Poly, WL, Saratoga Springs, AKL, YC, Swan, Dolphin, CBR, CSR, PORR, POFQ, Pop, ASMu, ASMo, and ASSp) and a few at DTD (Best Western, Doubletree, and Royal Plaza). Here is my opinion on the various types as it relates to our family.

Value - great for a trip where you don't plan to spend a lot of time at the hotel. The rooms are a good size and the housekeeping staff is every bit as attentive as at any resort. The food courts offer great variety and the bus service is good. The downside is that the amenities are not quite as good - less activities, no inside bar or full service down restaurant. The pools can get pretty crowded too.

Moderate - Perfect for a weeks stay. The rooms are a bit larger and the dressers hold a bit more. The moderates all offer an inside bar and a full service restaurant (except POFQ but it is so close to Riverside you can walk) as well as onsite activites like bikes, boats, and fishing. CBR, CSR, and PORR all have "quiet pools" situated very close to all the rooms as well as the large themed pool with waterslides. The bus service is good, and the Port Orleans resort offer the boat to DTD as a bonus.

Deluxe - Great for a long weekend or a trip that is just about relaxation. The extra $$ allow you a full service resort. When we stay at these resorts, we tend to spend 70% of our time at the resort. The transportation options are better at these as well, even if they do not have an alternate like monorail or boats.

DTD resorts - Very nice resorts with good amenties. The bus service is not very good. The proximety to Down Town Disney is great for evening out with the family at say .... Ghiradellis :)

So, for us it all depends on what our plans are for the trip as to which one makes the most sense. All that being said, we have never had a bad room, or hotel experiece and we have been well over 60 times since 1996.

awesome description Tampafan. I was deciding between deluxe and moderate and this really clears up some questions I had.

Am I the only one that thinks some of the moderates are prettier than some of the deluxe resorts?
