I have 6 people in my group and I have 2 adjoining rooms reserved at the All Star Movies Resort. Would it be worth and extra $15 per room to upgrade to a moderate resort? What are the real benefits of moderates vs value resorts? Which moderate would you suggest? Thanks.

I think it's worth it to upgrade. With the moderates you get a lot of benefits.

1. dual sinks in the bathroom (except for Coronado Springs)
2. a large food court PLUS a sit down restaurant
3. recreation such as boating, biking and fishing (PO)
4. larger rooms (value = 260 sq. feet, mods = 314 - 340 sq. feet).

I'd recommend the Caribbean Beach resort because the rooms here are the largest of the mods, plus they have a privacy curtain that can close of the bathroom from the main room (if privacy is a concern). And I like the dual sinks, especially if you plan on going out in the evening and two people are trying to get ready at the same time.

hi - we've stayed at ASMo a couple of times and really enjoyed it. we were close to the pool and the food court, as well as, the buses. we stayed at the POR in october and really didn't like it that much. we were very far from the main pool and the food court. we were close to a bus stop, but still felt like the ASMo was a better deal! we're trying the CBR in march. we'll see how that goes. the moderates are just so big!

Maybe I can get things started.

The rooms at the moderates are bigger (not a lot bigger, though). The pools at the moderates have slides. In addition to the food court, there is a sit down restaurant at CBR and PO, and a more "upscale" food court at CS (Pepper Market). The PO has boat service to DD (and a marina) in addition to the bus service.

POFQ is my favorite moderate. Love the New Orleans theme, the resort is small and compact. No matter where your room happens to be, it is only a short walk to the lobby, pool and bus stop. Boat trip to DD is fun and can be quite romantic at night. It's a short, scenic walk along the canal to POR and its very good food court and sit down restaurant.

Enjoy your trip!

you know, that's true! the french quarter is very nice. we stayed there in '97 when is was still Port Orleans and just loved it! the new orleans theme was great, the pool has a big sea serpent slide that is very whimsical, and the resort itself was not as huge as some of the other moderates!

the food court at the ASMo is very good, though, and the theme is just great!

I prefer the values to the moderates so for me, no it wouldnt be worth it.

We just got back from our wedding/honeymoon and stayed at POR. I went a few years ago and stayed at ASMu, so I can compare those too. Of course, seeing through rose-colored glasses:-) I absolutely *loved* POR and would stay there again in a heartbeat. ASMu wasn't bad, but I would definitely pay an extra $15 a night to stay at a moderate. POR was just a much nicer atmosphere. It was quieter, the pools were nicer, the theming was much prettier (loved the mansions and butterfly garden), you could take the boat to DD, among other reasons. ASMu was cheaper, and as Tom from Motel 6 says "they all look the same with the light out" ;-) I guess it depends on whether you care that much about atmosphere or not. In the end, they're both the same to sleep in and are on Disney property. Any place at Disney is much better than over 2 feet of snow!!!

In one word:

YES!!!

Here are just a few reasons why:
1) 4 sinks vs 2 (except at CSR)
2) food courts AND sitdown restaurants (PO-FQ shares with PO-R)
3) larger rooms
4) more pool options
5) more recreation options

Our favorite is PO-FQ... it houses fewer rooms, and is less spread out, making everything very convenient.
The pool is very nice, plus you have the use of another themed pool, plus quiet pools at PO-R
Newly renovated food court, with GREAT food!
1st on and 1st off of the busses to and from the parks
Tranquil
Picturesque

Whatever you decide, have a great trip!
