Value/Mod View Question (is it just me?)

I'm just trying to figure out how you enjoy a (more expensive) preferred view, (especially at a value or mod) - do you really "use" your "view"? - (and I don't mean requests like "close to food court" etc).

I mean, when I'm at Disney, I keep my curtains mostly closed, don't you? We are in the room to sleep and change/shower, and that's mostly about it, and I wouldn't really want to see you - and (trust me!) - you really don't want to see me either! :rotfl: - or should I say :scared1:

Does anyone sit in their value or mod, curtains wide open and enjoy the "view" - which has an outer balcony before the actual "view" anyhow, right? Very rarely have I seen curtains open in these type of rooms, (but I haven't really "looked" and when I have noticed them, there was no one in the room or the room was being cleaned by mousekeeping).

Can't picture myself sitting on my bed in my PJ's waving at you passing by in the morning while I enjoy the "view" :lmao:

In a DVC or in a deluxe, I understand how view can be important - but the values/mods, I don't get it. :confused3

At the values there is NO preferred view that one can pay for.
At the values when one pays for preferred they are paying for a preferred location.

I have to pay extra for a preferred building at the values. It is not a request.
A pool view would be a request at a value. A guest cannot pay extra for a certain view at a value.

Since I have limited mobility I always book a preferred room at a value so I know I will be staying in a building that is nearest to the main pool, food court and bus stop.

And to answer your question I would not pay extra for a certain view at a value or a mod.

Just my 2 cents.

I would not pay for a waterview at the moderates since as you said you do not have a private balcony so what is the sense of paying extra.
In a value, I have paid for the preferred location which puts you in a building that is close to the foodcourt and bus stops, to me it was worth the money.

I never pay for view, regardless of which level of hotel I am booking. I did get a preferred room at Pop because I wanted to be close to the food court and pool. I booked POFQ and WL for next year and got standard rooms for both. I agree about the windows at a mod/value.....I'm not sitting in my jammies waving at people going by, either....the curtains are always closed:).

I don't really care what the view is from my deluxe balcony, as long as I have the option of sitting outside. We've had nice views (dumb luck, not something we paid for) and parking lot views. It just doesn't matter enough to me to pay for it.

I agree with other posters and never pay for a "preferred view." What do I care if the view is of the parking lot when I'm in the parks all day and by the time I get back, it's dark outside? At the Values, I would pay for "preferred location" only in 2 circumstances: 1) If there mobility issues such as wheelchairs, etc that we had to worry about or 2) if I wanted a particular building for the "kid factor" (from what I understand, the Toy Story buildings are considered "preferred" because they are the kids favorites). Since we have neither of those issues to contend with, we are happy where they put us :thumbsup2

When I stay at a Value or Moderate, I don't pay for a view. Usually when I stay at this level I'm spending way more time in the parks than looking out of my window.

Now when I stay at a Deluxe I do pay for a view, especially at the Polynesian. It's just my personal preference. :thumbsup2

I don't pay for views either. I don't think it is really worth it. Everyone has different opinions though.

Preferred views are a waste of money at the budget and mod level for sure. I cannot say for the deluxe level.

Its not just you - I wouldn't pay for a view in a hotel room without a balcony anywhere, and especially not at Disney where we don't spend much time in the room. I can understand paying for a preferred (closer to amenities) room, but not for a water view when there is an outdoor corridor between your room and that view.

We paid for waterview at CBR and I would do it again. The first room they gave us was a view of a quiet pool and shrubs, but mainkly shrubs. I called and asked to be moved and they moved us to a beautiful room on the first floor with a great view of the lake and beach. We left our curtains open each day and really enjoyed the view before and after the parks each day. I dont mind people walking by as at home, our backyard is a golf course, so Im used to people right outside our windows. LOL Even in a Mod, I just wouldnt feel like I was on vacation if my room overlooked asphalt...especially considering I have a much better view from my window at home.

I paid for preferred at POP not for the view, but for the convenience. If you have little ones and have to go back for naps or be nearer to the food court I think preferred can be a perk that makes your stay much more pleasant. The only resort I really enjoyed the view at is AKL. Now that is a view worth paying for!:simba:

I have stayed at Disney many times and I have never had a view that overlooked asphalt unless I would consider the parking lot that I could see if I looked down from my 10th floor MK view room when we stayed at the CR. I hardly noticed it because my eyes were drawn to look the castle and Space Mountain.

I am also very fortunate and have breathtaking views from my balcony and windows of my home.

My thoughts are the opposite of yours though. I feel most paid views at Disney (with the exception of a view of the MK or Epcot) are not worth the extra money to me since I don't spend much of my time in my room.

I want to leave the water views for guests who will have more time to enjoy that water (or courtyard or woods )view.

Just my 2 cents.

Our experience:

Contemporary - standard garden wing- parking lot view
Contemporary - standard garden wing- parking lot view
POR - standard - lovely (natural appearing) landscapingPOFQ - standard - parking lot view
Wilderness Lodge - PREFERRED - the side of a building
Boardwalk Villas - Boardwalk View - Boardwalk View

The standard view at POR was much better than the Preferred view at WL, on the same trip, and we paid sooo much more for the WL.

I've only paid for a "preferred view" at a moderate once, at POFQ. Won't be doing that again. While it is a small resort, the view I'd paid for was the furthest from the food court and bus stop. From now on I'd rather be closer to both. Last time we stayed in building 3, that was before the no smoking policy.

Nope, I never pay for a preferred view either.

Now, if I could pay for a first floor room, I'd do that in a heartbeat!

I would pay for a preferred location at the mods but not for a view. We usually keep the curtains closed. I don't want people seeing our stuff in the room and we aren't there. When we are there I don't want to feel like I am on display.

The landscaping at the mods are great so even if you are on the back of the building it is hard to see the parking lot.

We have had first floor rooms overlooking the lake but I think our favorite is the courtyard view. I loved having the tables and chairs right outside our room.

We always get a water view at the POR. It is really nice to walk out your door and have the quiet pool right there. Most of the time we have it to ourselves.

I have paid for a preferred room at CBR, but only to be close to the theme pool and OPR (food court) and arcade (we have 2 kids!!!). But I wouldn't have paid for a view.

We dont stay deluxe, so there is a distinct possibility that we would (and have) ended up with an eye level view of a parking lot. When we stayed at Dixie Landings, our 2nd floor room looked directly at the parking lot.

Personally, Id rather pay for waterview, if only for the peace of mind that I wont have that view again. But then again, when we go to Disney, we only spend a few hours a day at the parks, and a lot of time relaxing in our room.
