I have a handicapped placard and plan on driving to some locations while I am in the World--I heard somewhere that valet parking was free was this. Is this true? That would be very helpful to know

thanks so much:D

Yes, valet parking at the Deluxe Hotels (Boardwalk, Poly, AK Lodge, Wilderness Lodge, Contemporary, Grand Floridian) is free if you have either handicap tags or placard. Normally thee valets won't charge if they are assisting in taking a wheelchair or ECV from the car, but one suggested that I hang the tag anyway so there is no question.

Note that since they started charging for the valet parking the valetr tips have gone down considerable; as a matter of fact the tag they give you as evidence that the fee has been paid (or waived) for the days states clearly that the valets do not get anything for this.

As a matter of general practice, I will tip either $1.00 or $2.00 both on arrival and on departure if I am not asking for special service. Normally if the valet will disassemble the ECV and load it into the trunk, or remove the ECV from the trunk and assemble it I will tip $5.00.

Note that valet parking at Pleasure Island has been totally eliminated recently.

Yes, valet parking is complimentary to guests with a handicapped parking permit or license plate. It is a very nice service. Our tipping is very similar to Figment's - we tip when we drop off the car & when we pick it up.

figment, thanks for the heads up on the PI parking.

Figment, do you know if the valet parking at PI is gone for good or temporarily? They don't have a lot of handicapped parking at DD/PI. Or at least it seems like they don't since we have always had trouble finding a spot there.

I almost forgot, we've used the valet parking at WL, Boardwalk and AK too. Very nice service.

When I was there 5 years ago, parking was horrible at DTD--that was the one place I was hoping to get the valet service! Oh well, we will see when we get there

Cheers

:D

I'm not sure if the removal of valter parking is temporary, but generally when Disney does a cutback it tends toward permanency.

You might want to consider writing a letter suggesting that since they have eliminated the valets that they considerably increase the HP parking areas.
