I have a Yellow Lab and the shedding is driving me crazy. My vacuum just broke and I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a good pet hair vacuum cleaner.

We have the Dyson Animal with the ball. It is excellent! We also have the Animal handheld which is great for quick clean ups of the couch.

Our dogs don't shed much but the cats are a different story. The amount of cat hair we vacuum daily would almost make a 5th cat!

THIS THIS THIS!!!!!

I got a really good deal on it at Kohls with a 30% off coupon and Kohls Kash to boot!

Dyson. Hands down, the BEST. 2 dogs, 2 cats, 2 grandchildren here. Need I say more!

The Dyson Animal. We have a golden retriever that sheds like crazy. I don't know what I would do without it.

Yup, I never "got" the whole Dyson thing...until I bought one. Great vacuum!

Consumer Reports didn't rate it too highly, so I'm surprised at how many people adamantly LOVE their Dyson.

Could this be one of those all elusive DIS threads where everyone agrees? ;)

I just bought a cheapo, whatever is on sale at Walmart that doesn't require disposable bags or filters (save lots of money that way). Then I replace the belt every few months. It's amazing how many people think their vacuum cleaners don't clean as good as they did when they were new. The belts stretch out and the brushes don't go around as much and pick up dirt.

So if you have a vacuum that doesn't seem to pick up good, just spend $2 and replace the belt.:thumbsup2

Sorry, but dysons are not that good. cheap plastic parts snapped together.

the filters are way overpriced.

Miele. true hepa.

I too will soon be looking for a new vacuum but I HATE upright vacuums. My last few vacuums have been kenmore or Sears whatever canisters not been to happy with them either but then it's hard to buy a good canister at a reasonable price with the power bar for carpets.

I'd hoped my new home would be carpet free but it just was not meant to be..DH is not willing to take up perfectly good carpet to put down any kind of hard flooring.

I have the dyson for pets too and I like it...I cant say love since vacuuming is the one thing I truly hate. I would rather clean toilets!

My MIL just got the Shark Navigator and she loves it. She raves about it every time I talk to her. It must be good since she is a neat freak and vacuums several times a week and has 2 long haired cats. Her electrolux finally kicked the bucket after 20 + years.

Love my Dyson. It's the only vacuum I haven't managed to kill.

Agree 100%. Got the Dyson Animal about 6 months ago. It's amazing how much fur and dirt it takes out of the carpet.

Another Dyson convert here. I've had all the VERY expensive vacuums & I love my Dyson Animal. I've had vacuums that cost over 2,500 & I still love my Dyson the best.

I looked for years to get a good vacuum! I bought one that I returned, and then had a Kenmore I was unhappy with for the past 4+ years while I looked forward to replacing it. The Dysons are just too expensive for me, and I hate a heavy vacuum. I also never wanted another bagless again! You have to empty them too often and the process is just a mess.

I finally hit on the Hoover Platinum Lightweight Upright, and OH MY! I have never loved a vacuum till now. It is so light and easy to maneuver (great for steps), and it is like my carpet was never really vacuumed before. I read all the reviews on Amazon and I agree with all the positives!!

FIVE cats here!
I went through all the pros and cons, had the bagless shown to me, the canasters, in the end I bought an OREK XL for $299 and included tune ups cleanings, I think it is trim in orange.

the plus is light weigh, larger bag, two types of bags so an option of the paper or cloth, the hose does not block from pet hair. Ever sweeper I had was a mess from the pet hair. I never invested in a Dyson, almost did, sure they great, but I have not one regret on the OREK.

The down is no hose attachment, but that was were I had issues, in one special they offer the free canaster, but I have a dirt devil with the mini power head, much easier for me to use the dragging the vacuum.

For all the pros, the one I love, the look on my carpets when I am done, as old and beaten up the carpet is, the appearance takes on a finsihed clean look,
They are much newer looking and I think it is removing so much debri, and power of the lift action.

This one has two speeds so I can do the other floors too. Glad I did not have to invest $$$ to find a great vacuum.

I think that was a second one I was happy with, but the bags were costly, is that the one with only cloth bags? do they make the paper type now? That was the reason I went with OREK instead of that one.

OH, and I found can never use the powder carpet fresheners, they killed my machines., I use crystals from OREK that are sprinkeled on the carpet.
I love the scent,.

I would have told you the dyson animal, until ours broke 2 weeks ago.

I got the bissell pet hair one.it kicks the dysons butt. big time. our dyson is fixed now ( i knocked it over and snapped a piece, figured it couldnt be fixed and ran out and bought a new vacuum turns out it could be fixed) I shoved the dyson in storage because it has nothing on this new one.
