We are just starting to think about going on our very first cruise. It looks like it will have to be a 3-day this summer due to our schedules. We are considering the Wish vs Utopia for just us as a middle aged couple. We want to maximize our time on the ship in the limited time we would have. Which would we be most likely to board early? Open to hearing everyone’s experiences with both.

We would probable visit the private islands on either but skip Nassau since we have been there by air.

Eating and entertainment with an ocean view room would be our focus. We would probably have 3 to 4 drinks each, per day.

This is all new to us although we have watched YouTube videos of others trips.

Don’t think the enormous ships are good to initiate yourself into cruising. Pick a similar size to the Disney classes. (Been on the Allure. Huge and fun but only did it to do it. At times you won’t even feel like you are on a ship. Floating Mall/Resort, mobile Vegas Strip atmosphere).

Boarding times will be similar on any ship. (Disney gives priorities when using their transportation. Won’t have to check in on the dot for a better number).

As a couple, Disney is for wanting a Disney experience. Will most likely cost more. The sailing part will be similar on any brand, with perhaps different private ports, depending on where you sail from.

We have tried Royal Caribbean, Carnival, Princess, Holland America, and Disney. For Disney we usually do a before, after, or even book end nights at WDW.

Been on the Wish. Two of us. (And Treasure). 9A is a great choice for an ocean view selection. Large oversized window. 7506 was our Wish cabin. (8008 on the Treasure). Have tried also Magic, Wonder, and Fantasy. (7A good balcony category).

Watching videos is good. Even look online at the ship’s deck plans. Be sure it has a nice outdoor deck promenade and other good ocean viewing areas.

Honestly, our favorite ship for crew, food, and sightseeing is still Holland America. Solid cruising experience. (Maasdam, Oosterdam, Koningsdam & Noordam will be this coming October).

I can’t give much of an opinion on Utopia of the Seas as we have not been on it. I will say it is high on our bucket list. I think the only thing holding us back is just the enormity of it and that it gets mixed reviews on it being a party or not party ship.
We have been on the Wish twice and love it. The layout can be a bit strange and some have complained that it’s hard to navigate. We haven’t experienced issues with navigating the Wish. Our last wish cruise we did oceanview deck 2 stateroom 2138 which is aft not far from the aft elevators. It’s not far from the kids clubs but we literally never heard anything related to that where we were at. Being close to the elevators on the second floor was great as it was always easy to get a near empty elevator while going up since we were at the bottom.
