Vaccinations (Inspired by the thread on CB)

Ok everyone, spill it!

What is your view on them? Do you think they are safe? Do you think there is a connection between them and autism? Will you be vaccinating your own kids? Do you know anyone who isn't vaccinated?

i have a phobia of ..of*needles*
I dont.. I can hardly talk about them without shuddering.

When i had to get blood drawn a year ago to test for arthritis.. oh god... the doctor must have hated me.
PLUS THEY COULDNT FIND THE VEIN THE FIRST TIME.

If my kid doesnt want it I aint forcing them.

Well... I was vaccinated...
And I've been vaccinated for several things in my life (Hep B, Flu, Meningitis, Tetanus shot, Meningitis again...)
I could really care less about shots, in the sense that they don't bother me. The only thing I can feel is the fluid going through my veins, which kind of grosses me out a bit.
I don't know anyone who isn't vaccinated, I think vaccinations are important and no offense or anything, but I believe that the pain people feel when getting a needle is purely in their head. They spend so much time getting worked up about it, the brain seems to think it's going to hurt, and because of this overreaction to it, yes, it will.

Yes, I will be vaccinating my kids.

I've been vaccinated for all kinds of things, and shots don't hurt me. I have to get shots all the time for thyroid tests.

Other than that, I'll be honest. I don't really know much about vaccinations so until I research it more I can't speak about the autism connection.

You do in NH. I wouldn't have been granted entry into any of my schools without them. I've been vaccinated for just about everything. The only one I've never gotten was a flu shot. Never needed it.

UMaine Orono was actually kicking kids off campus for not having the proper vaccines.

I will be vaccinating my kids if I ever have any/adopt any.

In AR you shouldn't even bother showing up for school if you don't have the right vaccines. They'll send you right back home until you get the proper ones.

I have a large phobia of anything sharp. To get my meningitus jab, I tried to escape from the doctor giving it to me so they had to give me a new appointment and I tried to run away again so they had to pin me down to the floor...

I haven't had any injections since...

That's what i did.

My freaking evil teacher made me go first in grade....7? And i was crying and freaking out, so everyone could see, then I just fainted LOL.

I think I have a phobia of sharp objects too.
Whenever I see soemthing sharp, my eyes automatically close. We live on a mountain, so when we go downtown, theres all these jagged rocks, and icicles, and my eyes are always closed.

I don't think they are good.
When I had Guillian Barre Sept-Dec, my doctor told me never, ever, ever get a vaccine like the flu vaccine and things like that. Ever.
Because shots like that can bring on Guillan Barre, or for people like me, who have had it before, it can bring on a relapse. So I can never get a vaccine ever.

I just finished with my Gardisil vaccinations last month. I have the normal ones; Polio, Tetnis, etc. And I need to get the Menigitis vac before college this summer.

Shots don't really freak me out. They aren't my favorite, but I'm not scared of them. I'm the only person that I know that isn't completely freaked out by them though.

I'm going to get my children vaccinated with the basic stuff. I don't really trust the newer vaccinations. I actually didn't really want to get the Gardisil because it was so new, but my mom and doctor were pushing it. I figured, ah what the heck. If it kills me, oh well. My family will be rich after they sue the heck outta the company and doctor!

The only reason I hate having the mass vaccinations at school is because I have to listen to people whine about it all day, go on and on about how they're going to be sick, faint or something.
It's quite annoying. And most of it is in their heads. They see one person faint, they freak out and believe that they will too... and some of them end up fainting. In grade 4, one person fainted, and at least 10 other people in the class claimed they didn't feel well and needed to go home. They get so worked about it.

I got the Gardasil shots because my mom had cervical cancer and it can be a genetic thing, so we wanted to be extra careful. They messed up her biopsy when they found it in her at 22 and because of that she wasn't ever supposed to have children, but lo and behold here I am.

i think its a requirement for kids to be vaccinated with certain vaccines to go to school and such... and i havent heard of many cases where vaccines actually cause disease, so i think id definitely get my kids vaccinated .. better safe than sorry? lol

I have a phobia of needles, but I do think vaccinations are nessesary. (That's why it's a phobia, being scared of a little prick to prevent a much worse disease is irrational. But hey, they still freak me out. It's not the pain, it's just the feeling of the needle.)

As for vaccinations causing autism, I think not. I'm not particularily well-read on this subject (In fact, I haven't even heard about this supposed link between autism and vaccinations), but it seems like nothing more than alarmist behaviour.

I don't plan to have kids, but any pets I may get will deffinatly be vaccinated. And everyone I know is vaccinated.

There are NO conclusive reports that link autism directly to vaccinations.
Really, I think the only reason autism is on the rise is because testing for autism is seriously improving and becoming more general, so that more cases of autism that already existed are being found, whereas in the past they may not have been found.

The only vaccine I didn't get was Gardasil.
That's because cervical cancer isn't in my family, and my doctor advised against it as they aren't completely sure of any possible long term side effects yet.

And in NJ, vaccines are required to enroll in school. Even preschool.
