Vacations this summer

My sister and some of her grandchildren just left today for a week in Washington DC. She came over last night to say goodbye and said she was so fortunate that the Delta variant was not in DC. Not sure what site she got her info and wasn't going there with her. They're all vaccinated except for the 11 and 10 year old grandchildren she's taking but hopefully they all survive the trip and have a great time. :goodvibes:

I live in the DC metro area and everywhere I've been people never stopped wearing masks - I'd say 70-90% of folks in places not required to wear them were still wearing them. Now most surrounding counties and DC have gone back to indoor mask mandates as of this week. I've been fairly cautious about going out pre-vaccine and still cautious post-vaccine and I'd feel comfortable going downtown to the museums, etc. especially being masked up (and I'm vaccinated). I hope they have a great trip!

I was considering a trip to Asheville to visit the Biltmore for a couple of days but I'm on the fence about it now. One tour we wanted to do in the Asheville area has cancelled already due to the resurgence of covid. I had considered an August WDW trip before that and cancelled it because the crowding was just too intense for me - and I really wish they had brought fast passes back. I'm supposed to go in December and I don't plan to cancel that one unless things are worse than they are now - which I don't expect!

We just did smaller within the Province trips. We did 3 nights on the Sunshine Coast in July and next week are doing just an over the night trip 2 hours away.

Hopefully next year we will venture out of the province/ Country.
Did you do anything fun there? I’m looking for ideas for 5 adults. An airB&B stay in a sleepy location isn’t my normal kind of holiday and I’m at a bit of a loss. We will have a rental car, Lord willing, if the agency honours the pre-paid reservation we made months ago. I’m getting a little nervous about that, in addition to the WestJet flight musical chairs nonsense. :sad2:

2 trips to NH planned, one at the end of August and one in the Fall. We went to Disney in May and have another trip planned for Nov. We had to cancel last years Nov trip so rescheduled for this year.

I do not know what to do, we orginally planned a park day or two . I was thinking legoland Florida, and told my sons before school starts and this whole thing happened so I'm afraid to take them out much especially because we live in a covid capital ( FL)

We had a trip to WDW at the end of June/beginning of July.

We were hoping to be able to go see DGS#4 after he's born in late September/early October, but it's not looking good. If things improve, I really want to go. I have JetBlue credits that expire next year, and I have enough to fly to a near city (JB doesn't go where DD#1 lives) and enough mileage on my Delta AmEx to fly back.

We have been planning a trip to Japan to see DD#2 (oh, let's be honest...we want to see Japan! :rotfl2: I've seen DD for the last 28 years...) next spring, but we won't go unless things have really settled down. Traveling for almost 24 hours, with little mask time...no thanks.

Which part of the Sunshine are you staying at? It is mostly a hiking, beach going, boating, nature watching, fishing destination. Some art galleries and small stores in some of the towns. There are some boat tours that seems good. Quiet and not much action. 😂 Let me know which town and I might be able to recommend some restaurants.

Sechelt - Thanks. It sounds like a big snooze actually but the plans are already made so here we go!

in Sechelt, Porpoise Bay Provincial park is a nice beaches. Also Davis Bay which is right in town and has a pier. The Wobbly Canoe is a good restaurant across from Davis Bay. I would drive up to Madeira Park (Pender Harbour). Both times I have been we have stayed in this area. So pretty! There is Frances Point Provincal Park. Not an easy hike ( moderate) but amazing views. Katherine Lake is a beautiful calm lake. There is also Ruby Lake. We went to the Italian Restaurant at the resort and it was good. If you go up to Egmont there is the Shookumchuck rapids. You have to look online to see what the best times to see them. We missed it. On the way to or from the Sunshine Coast stop in Gibson landing….home of the Beachcomber. 😂 we actually are at Molly’s Reach and it was very good, Not much excitement on the Sunshine Coast but the views are phenomenal. Just very laid back. When we go back, I would probably do one of the Boat tours as well as check out the North Sunshine Coast.

We don't usually travel much in the summer, at least not long vacations. We were in FL in May for a quick 3 days visit to my folks. We are going to Boston later in August for a quick work trip, and Labor Day week we are popping down to FL again for a few days to visit. None of which we think of as 'vacations'. We do have things planned in the January, 2022 & December, 2022 that are actual vacations.

My DH and some of his friends had planned a guys' trip to Vegas last weekend. They're all fully vaccinated but they cancelled because of the Delta varaiant.

We don't do much traveling in the summer. If we do, it's something for a few nights within a few hours drive. We will be going (still the plan so far) to one of the beaches in DE for a few nights (Rehoboth) next week.

Most of our travel was May, June, early July. Have to move daughter back to college in 10 days. Day trip tomorrow to visit son and dil.

Nothing else planned for now. Our area is the Hotspot for covid. Have to watch and see what happens next.
Same here. We did one short trip (8 days) to St. Augustine and Atlanta. We had another planned for 4-5 days in Venice FL, but canceled due to red tide.

We're in Orlando now, moving DD from dorm to apartment, and will be back in 2 weeks for start of classes.

Maybe we'll plan something for Fall.⁹

In 8 days DH and I will spend two weeks at the beach in Fenwick Island, Delaware. Older DD will join us for a few days. There may also be other visitors. Joe and Jill haven’t RSVP’d yet.

We’ll probably go to Rehoboth and Ocean City, Maryland once or twice each too.
We have a place in north OC-highly recommend Twilley Willeys at that little shopping center on Ocean Highway and Rt 54. Have fun! We’re headed there Wednesday.

We did a quick trip to Erie, detoured to Pymatuning to feed the fish at the spillway. Erie is only a couple hours drive from us and we planned to just do outdoor stuff so we didn't have to worry much about Covid exposure and crowds.

We just got back from an amazing family trip to Las Vegas - no gambling, but lots of food, attractions, and fun (and desert - it's not beach, which shocked my kids:))...

We missed our window I think for vacations. It's getting closer and closer to fall and the variant is around in high numbers in a lot of places. I think going too far away from home is now shelved until at least spring unfortunately.
