Anyone familiar with vacation insurance? Do you really need it if you drive and don't fly?

you really shouldnt need it unless you think your going to cancel your trip, which we hope you don't because your going to the World!!!!!

I think their are a lot of variables ie:
what time of year is your trip, Hurricane season?
Cost of your itinerary (is it a pkg versus a room only reservation with different requirements for cancelling)
Flying can be a big expense, but that doesn't seem to apply for you.
I think you need to look at your "total" vacation and figure out the cost for insurance and see if it is worth it to you.
We have purchased travel insurance for international travel and had to use it. It was a HUGE savings for us, THOUSANDS! We have also purchased it for Disney, but not for all trips. It just depended on some of the things I mentioned above.
I recall last year Disney having some "weather" thing that helped out but I don't recall seeing it for this year. Perhaps someone else knows???

What ever you decide have a WONDERFUL time mak'n Memories!!

We bought insurance for this trip, but we never have before. We booked the package back in September and are staying for 12 nights. We are paying a lot for this trip and knew that it would have to be paid 45 days in advance. I would have hated for something to happen in that 45 day window and lose all the money. (btw.. we are also driving.)

I was thinking the same thing, if we should buy or not. We will be going for 8 days in Sept. I think i'm gonna get just because my HD is military, so he might not get the time off (they can't ask for leave till the month of really) then we would be out money. I think I would go without him :cool1:

Does travel insurance cover if you can't make it, or just weather related events? If the weather is bad and you are stuck at Disney does it cover the extra costs? Any one know?

I can't remember the exact figure but our insurance reimbursed specific amounts of money for specific events. For example, car trouble on the way there, flights cancelled, illness, etc.

Can you get the insurance if your trip is already paid for? I am already past the 45 day mark. Would they let me add it on now?

I don't THINK you can....you may want to give them a call. I think the coverage has to be added BY the final payment. Perhaps you can get "other" insurance on line somewhere if you still think it's best for your trip???
Good Luck, Hopefully, you will NOT even need to use it!!!

I did book through Disney, but I guess you are right, I probably won't need it now that the trip is so close. I had just forgot to get it in the first place.

I purchased my insurance through Disney (because that's who I booked my trip through) and their policy covers cancellation or rescheduling for any reason, weather, illness, don't feel like going, etc. I am not sure whether it can be purchased after the trip is paid in full, but it's certainly something worth looking into if you are concerned. It was a little pricey through Disney at $119 per traveller, but there were only 2 of us. Also, sometimes various credit cards offer travel insurance just like they do for car rental insurance, so that is something to think about as well. Whatever you decide, I hope the trip that you originally planned works out and you have a wonderful time in the World!

We also purchased ours through Disney and it was $119 per adult, but the kids were free!

I have a question--I purchased insurance for our trip in September which also happens to be during the free dining promotion. If for some reason we weren't able to attend during this time & had to reschedule would it cover our dining still? There's a chance DH is going to be getting a new job & although we plan on still going during our scheduled time we have no idea what the new boss will be like & if he'll approve the time.

Thanks :)

I am only guessing but I would think it would be for the cost of the troop not the replacement cost of the trip.
