Our first week starts today at 3. Then Monday-Thursday in the mornings and then next week is the same thing. I do both weeks- and I have the best job. I get to be on the stage leading the songs, doing the skits, sharing the messages, etc. I love VBS so much. It's such a great feeling to see all these kids so excited about God. Our theme this year is Serengeti Trek. Anybody else's VBS starting?

I wish!! We missed our church's VBS this year they were doing Serengeti Trek too -- we were at WDW.

I wish we were close - maybe we could go to yours.

Do churches mind people dropping children in for VBS?

Our Vacation Bible School starts tomorrow morning. It runs from 8:30am - 11:30am Monday through Friday. I will be behind the scenes as I am the Church secretary. My DD will be attending, and my DS will be a group helper. This year's theme is Good News Clues. My kids can't wait, and we welcome all children of our community, doesn't matter whether they have a church home or not. The more kids, the better! :goodvibes

Our VBS (now called Week of Wonder WOW) starts tonight and ends Thurs. evening. It is called Ramblin' Road Trip, Which Way Do I Go?

We'd love to have you!:rotfl:

Our isn't for a few more weeks, we are doing "5 days around Gods World"
The kids are going to another one tomorrow at another church in town.

No, churches don't mind you bringing your kids- That is what it is for! To witness to kids, give them something to do during the summer, entertain them. Hopefully plant a seed in them so they will want to come to sunday school during the year.

My wife usually does VBS along with the rest of our church's "mom's group", but we were at the Jersey shore the week of VBS. I duplicate the CD's for them and I still did that - this year we did Davey & Goliath's Circus Spectacular.

My biggest complaint about VBS in our area is that they seem to do them too soon - 2 or 3 weeks after school ends. It seems to me that VBS should be mid to late summer (like now), after there has been some separation from normal school.

Our Serengeti Trek starts tonight at 6. Proud crew leader of first graders :wave2:

We just finished on Friday. We do Mon - Fri from 9 am - noon.

I did the crafts, or 'Souvenir shop' for the Ramblin Road Trip. It was one of my favorites from recent years. My DD, age 5 LOVED it.

Good luck to all of you getting started!

Our VBS doesn't start until August 15. We are doing Serengeti Trek as well. As of right now I am going to be station leader for crafts.

We went to a Catholic Church when I was a kid, which did not have VBS, and I went to VBS at a nearby Lutheran Church every year, they never minded and were very happy to have me.

Ours just ended Friday. We did Ramblin Road Trip too. We had about 65 kids. All are welcome from 1 (completed kindergarten) to 6th grade. I helped a teacher who was new this year. We had stop #2, Chicago. We do them out of order though as we rotate the kids each day. We do the craft and lesson and games in our class. My oldest ds 17 helped with recreation and ds 13 and ds 15 were group leaders, one had 17 kids and one had 13 kids, they have a boy and girl teen leader for each group. It was alot of fun to plant alot of seeds for the Lord.

I'm amazed to hear VBS starting so "late"...our church (Catholic) as well as others in the area conduct theirs in June. For the most part July is vacation and August is back to school.

We missed ours due to a wedding :(. It's theme was Serengeti Trek as well.

We did Serengeti Trek as well, our church had over 2500 kids!!

Then she went to my sisters which was about Jerusalem...forgot the name, but it was awesome. I think my dd got the most from that one.

Then my mothers church is having their VBS in my front yard starting tonight! They are doing Beach Blast I think. So we are going to that too~!

Ours is the week after next, July 25-29, 9-12 each day. My DS and DD#2 will be attending and DD#1 will be a helper for the smaller kids. We are also doing Ramblin' Road Trip. For me it will be a week with mornings to myself so I can get organized and ready for back-to-school frenzy. They did call last week to see if I would volunteer, but I declined. I have done it before, and I discovered there is a reason I teach HS and not elementary! And as our youth pastor said when we did 40 days of purpose, "if you dread doing it, it's not your calling!"

Our VBS was June 13-17 (I think? LOL....seems like forever ago) We did
Gospel Light's "Kingdom of the Son"

Most churches do VBS early in the summer before vacations begin, otherwise they struggle finding adult leadership, especially.

We are not doing a traditional VBS this year but instead "NBCs" - Neighborhood Bible Clubs. Church members have volunteered their yard, or, some groups have gotten together and hosted them at a park near an area that needs that sort of thing, and they do an outside Bible club. Our Minister to Children really felt convicted about bringing the word of God to THEM not expecting them to come to US. So many people have an aversion to the 4 walls of a church, or they don't feel as if they will be welcomed. Our church is in a very low income, needy neighborhood and some are anxious about entering our walls. So we brought it to them instead.

It's been incredible! We have 11 planned throughout the summer, whenever the church member's wanted to host one. LifeGroups (our small groups) have adopted them, Sunday school classes, neighbors, friends, etc. We even have 20 people from area churches that have joined up with neighbors to lead one together, so it crosses church and denominational lines. The kids have turned out by the TONS! Not only that, but many of our members live in those areas (intentionally) and now know some of their neighbors and can continue to reach their needs.

It's been a lot of work for me and the Minister to Children at the church preparing things for them to take with them, but I love seeing the pics and hearing the stories of all the children touched by our actions.

So that's what we're doing this year! We have mostly written our own material, and pulled some from an online resource.

The reason that our VBS is always in August is because we are in a military community and most people start going on leave as soon as school gets out. Our kids don't even get out of school until around the third week of June. I guess they figure that if they hold off on having VBS until a week or two before school begins then everyone will be back then.

Just got back a little while ago from day 1! Our church has a lot of kids too- that's why we split it up into 2 weeks.
