VA upper class -vegetarian food?

Hi, I have a question about Virgin Upper class that I'm hoping someone here will help me with.

We're thinking about upgrading to Upper from PE, but want to ensure my vegetarian DH will get some decent food out of it. Whenever we fly with virgin, if I select a vegetarian meal he gets the economy vegan meal which is pretty tasteless. Will the same happen if we go with upper and note he requires a vegetarian meal?

I've searched some threads on UC and noticed there's always a veggie main offered, but what about the sandwiches/snack served closer to landing. Do you get a choice of sandwiches etc?

Sorry, these probably seem silly questions but if I'm going to pay to upgrade I want to know it will be worth it for him?

you get a choice of sandwiches or muffins. They pretty much try to accomodate your every request

I thought one of the three main meal selections was vegetarian? As according to the special requests it does not mention just vegetarian but lacto vegetarian or vegan vegetarian?? If so then I am sure your DH will be fine with the normal non meat offerings.

We flew UC in April of this year and one of the three choices on both legs was definitely vegetarian, cannot remember what it was on the way out but on the way back it was a goats cheese tart.

we flew UC last week. One of the starters and one of the mains for the main meal was veggie.

The sandwich selection was a set offering of 3 - one was chicken, one was ham and one was egg when we went. The chicken sandwiches had cucumber in them - I am allergic to that. I told the steward I couldnt eat cucumber and got given 2 sandwiches so I didnt get a replacement for the one I couldnt eat. I dont know if I could have asked for more because I filled up on the scones and clotted cream instead

There is also a bowl of fruit on the bar and you can help yourself to that at any time and you get given a small bowl of crisps or olives with your drink just after take off.

I don't know if this helps, but this page has a link to a sample UC menu for Spring 08.

I knew I'd seen it somewhere before as I'm a veggie flying UC in October and I wanted to see what the veggie meals were like.

Worse case scenario is that I live off cheese and scones the entire flight - I can live with that!

i haven't flown virgin, but my veggie experience in business class of late on several different airlines has been quite similar...

they seem to be big on serving indian or middle eastern food...

regarding going with the meal offerings and not special ordering - my one concern would be, what if they run out of the veggie selection before they get to you...
i don't know how it works on virgin, but on other airlines, they have some of each and if they run out before you, you're out of luck...

so i always special order, even though i know that most transatlantic flights offer a veggie selection...
