If I have a AUG UY and I addon at the same resort with a FEB UY, will the new FEB contract be added to my existing membership or will I get a new membership number. I have added on before with the same UY and I know its all the same membership account, but I am not sure about different UY's.

No, if it's a different UY, it will be a new membership number (and subject to the minimum buy-in number of points if bought directly from Disney).

yep - you can't technically "add-on" a contract with a different UY month. it would have to be purchased as a new master contract.

As others have said, different use yer means completely separate membership. You can not combine points for use from the two memberships without doing a transfer from one to the other. Unless you have a specific reason for wanting two use years, it is far easier to have a single membership number.

Thanks everyone. My august UY keeps us away from vacationing in the spring and early summer. I was gonna addon with February, buy i think I will just keep it August.

We've also got an August UY and vacation every May. Why would an August UY keep people from vacationing in the spring? Maybe there's something I'm missing.

The banking window, in case you need to cancel. If you rarely cancel or change reservations, most any use year should be fine. I have a June use year, and occasionally travel in late May. Haven't lost a point, yet.

You should be fine on the banking window since you'd always cancel at least 4 months before the end of the UY or be in holding status anyway. What it really does is give you less options to use banked, borrowed or holding account points.

I think for many having 2 UY that match their trip timing is a good idea assuming they have the right home resort and UY for the given trips and assuming they have enough points that they're not routinely having to transfer points between the 2 for a given trip.

I just added on to my original contract at AKV and kept the same UY (December) for this very reason. No transfers required. However, when I called MS today to check on availability, I was told that even with the same UY, I would get a new membership number for the add-on. What gives? The fact that both were purchased as resales shouldn't make a difference should it? I'm hoping he was just misinformed.

As long as the two purchases were titled exactly the same way, have your closing agent or resale agent request that they be under the same membership. Also it wouldn't hurt to give a call to Member Administration, not Member Services.

Each contract has it's own membership number but under a master contract. I agree with Chuck that I'd call to be sure. As noted, the title has to be exactly the same and the UY the same for them to be directly linked.

Thanks guys. Both are same resort and UY, both purchased through TTS and used the same closing company. The second time they just used the information they already had on record, so the titles should be identical. I'll call Member Administration and make the request to be sure.

I think our answers were more directed at direct purchase. For resale it becomes more complicated. It is DVC's goal to link them if the above criteria are met and they normally do, however, it is my understanding that if they don't initially they won't go back and fix it later. That is why I've always suggested adding that component to the contract, ROFR request and making sure that both DVC and the closing company knew I wanted the contracts to be linked. I would go as far as adding my current master contract number to the contract and ROFR letter as well as contacting DVC independently as a member to have them be on the lookout from the other end to make sure they all got linked.
