January, May, July and November. I don't know why though.

That's the truth. I understand not having all 12. But why 8 and not 4 or 6 and why not start with Jan. My guess is they originally didn't think they would be up and running to sell or use a Jan use year but would by Feb.

I have always thought the December use year was strange. I would have thought they would have done November instead of December.

I agree Diane. I think it's the hardest for members to understand.

I'm also betting that "September" isn't on their calander either...

.....since I've been on the "wait list" for an "add on" ...

......since January...... :faint: :faint: :faint: :faint: :faint:

So now that I know which months have/don't have UY's, which UY's would be best for us if we buy DVC (I'm looking at resales)? Right now our kids are young, so we plan on going in November (during Jersey Week) until the kids are a little older and missing a few days of school might not work. Once the kids reach that age, we'd probably go in August, right before school starts.

I read in another thread (I tried to find it via search but no luck) that ideally, you want your UY to be right before the time of year you'd usually be going, so if you had to cancel your trip, you'd still be in the 100% banking window. Is this correct?

I go to WDW in Nov, every year, the last week of Nov, so I picked Oct. as my UY, that way I know I will have the points available for when I want to go.
Hope this helps some!

I would go with June or August. I have a friend with an August use year and now that her kids are older they like to go in June, right after school lets out. June would still give you until Nov 30 to bank 100%.

I agree with DebbieB - June or August would work well given your current and future plans.

Best wishes -

Another consideration relates to whether you ever need more than 3 years' points for a single trip...If you had say 200 points -the usual maximum points available for a trip is 600--with banking and borrowing...but if your trip straddles your UY you can use up to 4 years' of point = 800 points...Example...UY is August --trip in August 2005 and you could use Aug 2004, 2005 and 2006 points...Trip only in JULY and you could use points from 2003, 2004 and borrow from Aug 2005--stil only 3 years points...but move trip to start at the END of JULY 2005 and END in AUGUST--now you can use banked Aug 2003 points for the July part and once into August have access to the Aug 2006 points so effectively have 4 years of points available to use.
