We put an offer in on 100 points with a Sept UY at BWV. We currently own 200 points with Oct UY at AKV. My question is if I book at the 11 month window at with 100 banked points and 100 current points - can I then at the 7 month window change the ressie to use only the 100 banked points and use 100 of my AKV points instead? Do I have to transfer points to do this even at the 7 month window or only transfer points if I am trying to do it earlier? Just trying to understand because this is all new to me. Of course, I t might not matter if my contract doesn't go through.....

Not unless there is still availability for the exact same thing you booked during the home resort priority period. Essentially, you will be cancelling the original reservation and making a new one. If there is a waitlist for what you want, you could lose the original reservation when you cancel it to make the new one.

Since you are getting a different use year, you will have two different memberships. At 7 months, you will be able to use points from both contracts to book a stay. However, you will not be able to combine points to book a single night. To do that, you would have to transfer points from one contract to another.

For example, if you were booking a week at BWV at 7 months, you could book 3 nights from the BWV contract and 3 nights fro the AKV contract. If you needed points from both contracts to book the last night, you would have to transfer points from one contract to the other to get the amount required to book the night.

Remember that only AKV points can book AKV before the 7 month window opens. Only BWV points can book BWV before the 7 months window opens. The home resort designation follows any transferred points. Some people use banking and borrowing to get enough points to book their stay. If they have two home resorts, they alternate stays.

P.S. Good luck with ROFR!

Thank you very much for the information. I think I understand now. What would the purpose be to transfer points if the home resort priority stays with the points? Would be just to get the exact number of points for a reservation?

Transferring the points would help at the 7 month window when you can combine points from different resorts to make a reservation. If you do not transfer the points and you need both contracts to book then you will have to make 2 separate reservations and link them. If a reservation calls for say 220 points for and you only have 200 in the contract you cannot combine 20 from the other contract to complete the reservation unless you transfer the points over. You are only allowed 1 transfer in or out in a UY so many members transfer the entire amount at once. Others use the different contracts as just that and never combine them. Good luck

That is a transfer's main purpose when one owner is transferring to himself; it results in your ability to combine the two contract's points to make a single reservation at 7 months out. Without a transfer you would have two separate reservations, one under one contract for some nights and one under the other for other nights, which you can then have MS link so you do not have to change rooms but you may have to do a second check-in and get new room keys at the changeover date between the two reservations, something you would not have to do if you transfer points and make one seamless reservation.

So depending on MS I may or may not have to do a second check in? What reason would there be not to link the Ressie for me? Also my understanding is it is easier to transfer points if I don't have enough in one contract and if I. Have the booking window. So my next question. Why would I not want to transfer points? What is the negative to transferring?

You can't transfer borrowed points so if you ever needed to borrow, you'd have to keep them separate as transferred points can not be borrowed either. You also cant transfer banked points. We own two UY and just book the as their own and have the reservations linked. We are doing this for the first time in May and they told me that I might still have to check in and out, but won't need to change rooms.

The biggest piece to remember is that its two different ownerships and when you are booking, its as though you are completely different members. I have heard that there are some who simply transfer each year so at 7 montHs there is a seamless use of points.

That is a good reason. We usually end up banking and using more than one years worth of points for a trip once a year. But part of the reason for us to add on is we may try to go twice a year in the future. Two of our kids will be in college next year and one in high school - hence different vacation periods for them.
I hope that when you go on your trip in may it will go smoothly for you. Let me know if you don't mind!
