UY help for Direct VGF

I had to read this three times to understand. You explained it beautifully but just wrapping my mind around it all 🤪 Question: If I know I won’t be traveling before December 2024 and want to book mid December 2024, I can use my December 2023 points as long as it’s booked by Nov 30 (would be booked in January though at 11 months). Even if the trip is after Nov 30 they will still count since they were scheduled by the UY deadline?
If you're trying to book mid December 2024 with 2023 points, you need to bank the 2023 points into the 2024 use year in January. In mid January 2024, your 11 month booking window will open and the system will use the banked 2023 points automatically for your trip in December 2024 when you book it.

The alternative if you don't want to bank those 2023 points yet, you can book your December 2024 reservation in mid January with your 2024 points (assuming you have enough for the full reservation). Lets say you don't end up going on a trip before the banking deadline and you decide to bank. After you've banked, you can modify the reservation and select the same dates and room type and the system will automatically pick up the banked points. You would do this if you think you may go on a trip somewhere between 12/1/23 and 11/30/24 but are unsure.

This second part may be a little above your paygrade at this time so focus more on the first part I wrote.

Points MUST be USED for a reservation during the use year, it doesn't matter when you make the reservation. Unfortunately you chose one of the hardest use years for people to wrap their heads around. Your 2023 points must be used on a reservation that starts on or after 12/1/23 and ends on or before 11/30/24 unless banked. If banked they must be used on a reservation that starts on or after 12/1/24 and ends on or before 11/30/25

It’s funny bc he originally said March is what the automatic UY would be but when I said I want to travel in December he told me he will do everything in his power to get it for me. But said it’s never a guarantee and he also said the same thing about the 2022 points even if they approve the Dec UY. Is this just to cover his own behind?
DVC has to do something with those MB points they are buying back & that something is typically to rent them out for cash & as w/ all companies the bean counters have financial targets they want met :). I’m actually surprised the guide talked about a Dec. use year, most folks are getting pushed really hard to buy March.
I travel in Dec. usually (love WDW during the holidays) & a Dec. use year has worked fine for me for the last decade. It did take me awhile to wrap my head around the fact that my ‘current’ use years points were actually eligible to be used for vacations falling in the first 11 months of the next calendar year & only eligible to be used for vacations falling in one calendar month that actually ‘matched’ the use year (Dec..)

I think given winter break and maybe june travel - (Assuming winter break is december) a december use year would be best. This allows you to bank your points through July if you decide to cancel or alter your plans

Actually the second paragraph was easier to comprehend. Although, I had to re-read the first part multiple times due to distractions (specifically: my 4 year old asking me what I wanted to eat at his pretend restaurant). Thanks for your help explaining. It makes even more sense now.

Usually school break for winter is mid December. This year it’s Dec 18-29 and has been pretty consistent over the last few years!

Agreed, it definitely sounds like @disney_mood has a guide that's making sure she is satisfied with her purchase! Recently people are told March, express they would like something else, and need to really be assertive and push back even having to request to speak with a supervisor. The guide offering to do the work is refreshing!

@intamin explained things wonderfully! I agree, Dec can be hard to wrap your mind around because almost every travel date has a calendar year different than the UY. I have a friend with a Dec UY so we've discussed it a lot :rotfl2:

He’s been super amazing! I got lucky and found him on the dvc official site chat after I fired the first one 🫣😂 He was unresponsive and was a “senior” level guide but didn’t seem like he wanted to put any effort in.

Finally after the December UY being beat into my head on this thread I get it! You guys are the best!!!

I don't blame you! After my first guide (very helpful) "retired" during COVID/2020, I reached out to one recommended to me by word of mouth. It makes this process a lot simpler. These aren't small sums of money so you like to know the person is helpful and willing to work with you.

Very happy you feel comfortable with VGF and the Dec UY!

Exactly! Thanks 😊 I’m so excited and feel very comfortable with my decision. Contract should be finalized by Friday I hope!
