UY and borrowing questions

My wife and I go to WDW every May(sometimes end of April). I understand the 11 month home resort window so assume that a UY in June would be the best way to go (at least I think I understand that :rotfl2: ). What if I found a good deal (still looking) for a February or March UY. Am I correct in thinking I could not use the points in any particular UY until that month of that year or unless I borrowed them? Or would that not actually be borrowing to use the points? i.e. Let's say I have points coming in on March 2006 and we wanted to go in May in 2006, Could I call now and book those points or would it be considered borrowing my points? ( I think I've just confused myself. Good luck answering. :teeth: ) Thanks in advance.

First - If you plan your trips in May or April, you would be better off having a Feb or March UY. That way, if you have to cancel your trip, you will still have a long time to decide if you are going to plan another trip or if you want to bank your points.

You can make ressies before your points are in your account. They are only considered borrowed if tehy do not fall within your current years time fram. That is, If your UY is March, any trip from March 1, 2005 to Feb. 28, 2006 is considered current. You only need to borrow if you will not have any of this year's points in your account when you take the trip. HTH!

Fantastic. Another question: If we had on another 25 points to that does it have to be in the same UY and if not how does that effect booking, having two different UYs?

Booking trips and UYs really have nothing to do with each other. Just make sure the points will be in the account when the trip occurs.

The problem with adding 25 points with a different UY is just tracking banking and expiration deadlines for those points. It makes it a little more confusing, but not impossible by any means.

One other thing to keep in mind. If you had an March and August UY, a trip taken between March and August would be borrowing for the August account, as those point would not be deposited in your account for the current year until August.

March UY - March 1, 2005 to Feb 28, 2006
August UY - August 1, 2005 to July 31, 2006.

Clear as mud?

Absolutely! :rotfl2: Thanks. I think I understand. And of course, once I decided that would work the listing I was looking at was gone. :guilty:

Bummer! From what I hear, good listings go fats. You really should get on a waiting list so that you get an earlier shot at things. Good luck!

If you add on through Disney and buy less than 150 points, you must get the same use year - Disney will not sell yo anything else.

If you buy a resale, you can buy whatever you choose.

Best wishes-

Yes, I'm on a couple of different list but it seems that the smaller point listings are very few and far between. Perhaps it's due to the time of the year and it'll pick up next month. We're keeping our fingers crossed.

Ah, good to know. I was told DVC have points available for OKW and BWV at this time but I wonder if that is for all UYs or just some.

I have a question on banking and borrowing. With a March UY, if I bank '05 pts that need to be used by Feb 28 07 and I borrow '06 pts to use now (long story), and I plan a trip for Feb '07, can I borrow '07 pts coming on March 1 07 to use for that trip along with my banked ' 05 pts? WHEW!!! I ask this because my sister was told she couldn't and I couldn't understand why so I figured I'd come to the experts!

Depends on your use year and the date of your trips. If you bank '05 points into '06, they are good for stays that occur in your '06 use year. You would NOT be able to use those points in the '07 use year. When you bank points, they can only be banked one year ahead. Let's say you have a March Use Year. You bank all of your March '05 points into your '06 use year, and you will have double points to use for stays that occur between March 1, 2006 and February 28, 2007. Any stays that occur between March 1, 2007 and February 29, 2008 must be with points from your 2007 use year or banked points from your 2006 use year or borrowed points from your 2008 use year. If I am reading your question correctly, the answer is yes, you can borrow '07 points for that trip.

Luigis Girl - Sounds like you have it right.

Thank you again Diane for your help on yet another thread today! I had to read yor response OUT LOUD to myself a few times but now I've got it! I thought my sister was given wrong information by her guide (my guide also) but her DH, my DBIL, certainly won't believe me over the guide when I say "I think that's wrong". :flower:

Carrie - Thanks for your response. :flower:
