I have no idea what my problem is but I am tired all the time. I could sleep all day and all night without a problem. All I want to do is stay in bed. I take an antidepressant and I think thats what makes me so tired all the time. Seriously, i have zero motivation to do anything. Ive gotten blood work and the only thing that came up was low on Vit.D. I can't handle caffeine cuz it gives me the jitters. I'm at my wits end. My family is sick of me always wanting to sleep. I cant get anything done!!! Ugh!!!!

You need to have more than just bloodwork done. Lots of conditions, that bloodwork doesn't find, can be causing you to be so tired.
Depression itself usually makes a person tired, so I would think (but don't know...someone else on here will, I am sure) that the antidepressant would help that.

I was exhausted for, literally, years, until I was diagnosed with celiac disease. Here I just thought being a busy mom was the cause of my never-ending need for sleep.

Have you been tested for sleep apnea? http://www.webmd.com/sleep-disorders/tc/sleep-apnea-symptoms

I am sorry you are so exhausted. I know my MIL used to take antidepressants, and she never got out of bed.

I am anemic AND have hypoglycemia, so if I don't eat, I fall over from exhaustion.

I agree, you need more bloodwork.

Feel better!

For starters if you think it is your antidepressant you may be on the wrong med. You may need to try out something else.

Were you this way before the med? Do you see a psychiatrist or did your general doctor prescribe this? How long have you been on this med?

While it is OK for PCP's to prescibe your psych meds, it is not OK if you are just starting out and needing to find the right med.

Believe me, my old PCP wanted to give me antidepressants because she thought I was depressed. Turns out it was reflux.

So certainly dig deeper into the causes. Must be frustrating.

Which anti-depressant?

I went through something similar. We tested EVERYTHING. Thyroid, iron, b12, vit D, and many many many other things. Finally in desperation my doctor suggested switching antidepressants... I went from Effexor to Wellbutrin, and all of a sudden I had my energy back. (And I lost about 40 lbs)

I will say the switch from Effexor was a killer... one of the WORST times in my life without a doubt.

You could also have your thyroid levels checked. This could also be causing the exhaustion.

Good luck to you. I know how horrible that feels.

Yeah, sometimes thyroid disease is mistaken for depression.

As far as the antidepressant goes, MOST of them make me extremely sleepy. I finally found Wellbutrin a few years back and it's been the best as far as energy goes. I have energy during the day and sleep pretty well at night when I'm on it.

I was tested for thyroid and I was the lowest normal number. She wants to retest me in a month for that. I definitely have all the symptoms of a thyroid condition. I take Celexa, I hear Wellbutrin causes anxiety which is why I take the anti in the first place. I'd like to wean off but Im scared of the withdrawels.

Ask for a small dosage of thyroid. I'm so sensitive, i can feel a difference of just 1 whole number in my levels. Also, ask for a full panel. The TSH number can mask a problem with your T3 and T4.

Could I have sleep apnea even if I don't snore????

Yes. I was just diagnosed and while I did snore my ENT told me that sleep apnea did not always cause snoring and vice versa.
I was tired most of the time but I don't think to the extent that you are. I am also on an anti depressant that I hope to come off of now that I have a CPAP. Someone else mentioned reflux I was diagnosed with it at the same time as the sleep apnea, that can definately keep you from sleeping well, and I never had the heartburn type sympton, I went to the ENT initaly b/c of a scratchy throat.
I hope that you recognize your symptoms from some of these posts and can get the right test.

What is the medicine for thyroid??? I swear i suffer from every symptom of hypo thyroidism. my number was 0.5

Ive had reflux for years although it doesnt keep me from sleeping. I usually sleep great, but never feel rested when i finally wake up.

you sound exactly like me, except for the antidepressant thing.

i'm ALWAYS tired. i can get 4 hours or 14 hours of sleep and i'm still tired.

i got my bloodwork done too, and they told me the same thing, low vitamin D but nothing else.

when i was younger i had bloodwork done and my peditrician had said i was anemic

but when i switched over to a regular doctor when i turned 18, he told me i was fine. :confused3

Well if you're low on vitamin D, you need to get a bit of sunshine too.

I find when I'm down and out and only want to sleep for 15hrs a day and do nothing the rest of the time. I usually wind up forcing myself to go out and do something, like going to Sea World or Aquatica ALL the time. So the first few days, i'm dragging my feet, spending way too much time in one area cause I'm too tired to walk some place else. And after a week or so, I'm definatly feeling better.
And it has to be something out of the usual rut of the day stuff.

i live in WNY tho, we hardly ever get sun. it's either always raining, or snowing. so i was told to take the vitamin pills and i took them for weeks and never even felt a difference.

I have Epstein-Barr and it's a PITA. Usually I'm fine but when I have a flare-up, ironically caused by overdoing it, it's awful. I want to sleep for *days.*

Haha I do feel your pain though.. I'm pregnant and chasing a 2 year old all day. Shoot me!

I took Lexapro for a couple of years. It produced the same symptoms in me... extreme tiredness, sleepiness, and complete lack of motivation. That is why I [reluctantly] stopped taking Lexapro earlier this year; I had truly lost the ability to function in my daily life. A switch to Wellbutrin alleviated those symptoms, but was not (for me) as effective for the depression issues. Some people take a combination of the two. Good luck to you.

Ive decided after much consideration to get off of the Celexa. I do believe it is the source of my exhaustion. Im scared of the withdrawel off of it though....wish me luck. I do plan to wean slowly.
