Using Zip-Loc Bags To Pack

For those of you that use Zip-Loc bags when you pack have you found that it makes your suitcase too heavy? I know it saves space, and you can fit more in, but now you have to worry about the weight.

No, I didn't find that to be the case at all.

I didn't find weight to be a problem either. And it is soooo convenient! Don't have to sort out the kids outfits for each day, it's already done.

No, ziplocs don't weight much and I use the 2 gallon ones.

i didnt find the weight a problem at all. i used the 2 gallon zipper bags (the ones with the little tab at the top that you just zip over). the clear bags really help if you are chosen for the thorough search. the guys thanked me for packing that way. it made their job easier.

The weight of the suitcases was not an issue for us. We packed everything in ziplocks. It worked out great. Saved so much time in the mornings getting everyone dressed and out of the room.

A bonus I had not planned for with the Ziplocks was at the aiport we got inspected. They emptied a couple of our suitcases. It was a snap to put the ziplocks back into the suitcase and head off. They did not open any of our ziplock bags, just squished them around in thier hands to make sure it was only clothes in them.

I think Madi100 meant was that with putting items in ziplock bags, you tend to be able to fit more bags/clothes in one suitcase, thus it weighs more.

I did notice that, but tried to just pack them less full, more room for souvenirs!

Yep, I meant that there is more room in the suitcase for stuff if you use the ziplocs. I know that I'm going to use them for our children for organization reason, but I wasn't sure if I wanted to use them for us too.

We use the big ziploc bags to pack and it does make everything much easier. I will put all of my underwear, sox and nightgowns in one and squeeze out the air. Since I wear mostly sundresses, I just roll those up and each one of the big bags will hold 3-4 sundresses. My spouse does the same thing. Well, not the sundresses (smile), but he puts his underwear, sox and bathing suit into one ziploc and rolls his t-shirts and shorts to put in another. The only clothing we don't put in ziploc bags are things like jackets, sweaters, sweatshirts and jeans.

Nothing gets all that wrinkled, and since I don't like to iron (smile), I have found that taking 20 or so minutes to wet a washcloth, dump the wet washcloth and the wrinkled clothes into a dryer and then take them out in about 10 minutes will eliminate most of the wrinkles. We usually do this right after check-in, since when our kids were little they wanted to check out the pool right away and we got into the habit of doing that first thing. I just bring the hangers and empty collapsible laundry basket with me and it is so nice to start the vacation out without ironing(smile).

but you just have to use your willpower not to overstuff and weigh the suitcase down. Different airlines have different weight requirements. I found Delta to be the most restrictive, only allowing 50lbs/checked bag.

I think American Airlines is 50 also. That to me, just doesn't seem like a lot of weight.
