Can anyone give me any advice, tips, and such on using the Walmart Grocery app with getting groceries delivered to your car? Are the grocery prices the same on the app that are in your local store? Do you tip the person who brings them to your car? Is it worth doing or trying at least once? Are promo codes available a lot? Pros, Cons?

I’ve been using it for a few months. Love it. I’m usually nuts at the end of grocery shopping trip and this is so easy.

I’ve heard people say it costs more but that hasn’t been my experience. In fact it saves me money because I’m not impulse shopping.

No tips. Sometimes you get promo codes. The last one I got didn’t work though. I never got around to asking why.

Only cons are some people don’t like others picking out their fruits and veggies. Once they gave me the wrong thing and I wasn’t really sure what to do about it.

Some tips: Go through and mark all your staples as Favorites. It makes it super easy to order that way. Keep a running list going in the app. It doesn’t order until you complete so you can effectively add things as you run out. It’s best to make an order for the next day rather than trying to order for that day. I try to plan it so that I’m picking up after other running around.

Good point, I imagine there will be some things I won't be ordering on the app.

does walmart's app let you indicate you don't want any substitutions for a particular product? the fred meyer's here does but i've heard complaints about other stores that don't and people will get orders with higher priced items that have been substituted out for the sale priced items they ordered.

It does, boy that would make me mad if that were to happen to me.

Yes you can indicate you don’t want a substitute. They will also double check with you before they load your car. I’ve had Walmart give me bigger sized items or more of something for the price of the original I wanted.

I’ll order “basic” veggies like potatoes, onions, lettuce, carrots, precut in the bag, that kind of thing. Fruit I’ll get bananas but not much else. I ordered apples once and they were hard as rocks. My DH shops Smith’s when he cooks so I just have him pick up stuff as I need it or I grab them at other places when I’m out.

We use it all the time and it is a must on vacation. You can choose all items or only certain items to allow a substitute. If they need to sub it will be an equal or better product and they will not charge you more than the price you were going to pay. For example once I ordered Mardi grass napkins and they were out. So I got 2 pkgs of bounty napkins since the Mardi grass was supposed to be a bigger size. They charged me just for the Mardi grass. Another time I ordered a big bag of chocolate animal crackers. They were out of the big bag so they gave me 2 smaller bags which was more volume but they charged for the 1 big bag.

Once I ordered swim diapers and they didnt have any at all so they didnt charge.

HTH!

Right now it is not available at my Walmart 8-10 minutes from my house, but is available at the one that is about 25 minutes away. So with my first order I will go ahead with a one week order, but if I really like it I will do at least a two week order from now on. But it is not like I don't go down that way toward the other Walmart at least every other weekend anyways.

With all this technology I just wonder how long it will be before the job of cashier will be completely phased out? But maybe a new job category will be taking its place in the future.

I've had good results allowing substitutions. They've always alerted me to any substitutions when I pick up orders and given me the option to accept or reject them. Walmart will substitute something equal or better (more expensive) and you still only pay the price of the item you originally ordered.

My wife uses the app and will not order vegetables and fruit but almost everything else is done on the app. Pick it up the week's haul on the way home from church on Sunday.

i think that new category is already in place b/c our local walmarts have more floor staff than i've seen in years-all designated to pulling items off the shelves for the individual orders. an upside to this is those staffers if asked by a customer where a particular product is located can direct you not only to the specific aisle but also to the specific shelf:thumbsup2 the downside is the 'carts' they use are huge and cause the already to narrow aisles to be difficult to navigate (though i'm a bit jealous of those carts b/c they have built in steps for reaching items on the top shelves). i tend to shop during the mid morning hours and i think everyone and their brother orders right before they leave for work in the morning b/c the 'pullers' are out in full force getting orders when i'm there.

it will be interesting to see what happens with the physical layouts of stores as this type of shopping becomes more popular-i recently read an article that said something about with the growing usage at walmart of this type of shopping their new construction as well as renovations on existing stores will see less walk-in customer floor space so that they can dedicate more behind the scenes storage organized to facilitate this type of shopping.

I love, love, love Walmart pickup! You do have to watch prices, especially on fresh things--so far, the online groceries are priced nationally. That means that blueberries, for example, cost the same in Maine as they do in Kansas. I suspect they'll change this, eventually, but I don't buy a ton of fresh fruit or meat through the pick-up.

I get it about once a week, sometimes more. I typically have a substitution each trip, but I'm not picky (and I have 4 kids, so stuff goes quickly, regardless of brand). I rarely reject a substitution, but when I have, it's not a big deal (they once gave me shampoo as a substitute for conditioner--nope!).

You can get alcohol. They will card you, much to my amusement.

Our local Walmart is right on the way to the beach--it would be perfect for ordering subs, snacks, drinks, etc. If you can't order ice, you could just run in and get that, and be on your way in minutes.

While you can't tip, I did leave some Christmas goodies last year, since I'm a regular and the people are so nice. YOu can also help them out by doing the online survey and mentioning the name of your worker.

I find it's good for most things, but I still find myself going into Walmart for stuff that doesn't show up on the website, or I just want to browse. I've ordered non-food items--printer ink, a Scrabble game--and they don't bat an eyelash.

Wonder if at some point they will start charging a fee, like Disney. It once was free, but......

some stores already do. fred meyer stores give you the first 3 free but then there's a charge (varies by region).

I think there will always be people who go to the store. But they will need people to fill orders so that could take a cashier's place potentially.

I think I had much rather be a "picker", I guess you could say verses a cashier at Walmart. I don't like having to stand and stay in the same spot for long hours. Hmmm, might look into that about 8 weeks after we get back from my daughter's next trip for surgery.

I am thinking that with a added fee, perhaps larger orders might make more sense?

My husband prefers the grocery pick up and we've used it multiple times.

I've had a few issues with produce where I felt like I didn't get a very good green bell pepper for instance but overall it's been good.

We used the website on a computer to do the order and then the app to check in when we're ready to have them put in the car. My husband has said though he's had a few issues with the app in that the check in hasn't worked all the time. He contacted Walmart and they've given us coupons to be used (which we already have) for the next order.

Yes you can select to allow substitutions or no substitutions. As far as its been with Walmart if the item you ordered is not available and you allow substitutions they will not charge a higher amount if the substitution is higher priced. Also you're charged with what they deliver so if an item you ordered wasn't available and either you selected no substitutions or there wasn't a substitution available you shouldn't be charged for that item you didn't ultimately get.

The inventory does not necessarily match your store but I do feel like its been improved since it was first introduced with that respects--first time we ordered when it was first out we had a large amount of substitutions because the item we ordered didn't exist in the store, that hasn't been the case as much as time went on.

One thing I don't like is you can't use manufacturer coupons yet via the internet for majority of places so I do end up spending more money on certain items than I have to simply because of that if we opt to purchase that item via grocery pick up. Also yes pricing can be different in store than on the website.

No we don't tip.
