Using Points to stay at GF Concierge? Anyone ever do this?

I realize that a stay at the GF concierge is costing us many many points but this was the situation....DH and I had DVC points that needed to be used by December (they were banked but then not used because we were pregnant and then had a baby! :) Long story...off topic... )

To get to the point, we needed to use approx 300 points by December or risk losing them. We didn't have much vacation time (since I used it all on my maternity leave...) so we needed a way to blow a lot of points in one short time and all of the large DVC rooms at DVC resorts were booked on short notice. I suppose I will have to "suffer" (LOL!!!) at the GF thinking about the cost of the points but it is better than losing them.

Has anyone ever done this? Which concierge are you booked into? Sugar Loaf or the Royal Palm Club? Anyone?!

Thanks....

PS...My son, who is 5 months old, is very excited to "go home" for the first time. ;)

I used points last year to stay in GF concierge. You will be in RPC in the main building. YOu will have a regular room though, not a deluxe concierge room. It was a trememdous amount of points and I also was in a bind and had to use the points. It was a good stay, but I wouldn't do it again, either points or cash. You'll enjoy the main building!!!!

why dont you rent your points to someone and take the extra cash and enjoy yourselves in disney while staying at a lower cost property:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Nikitta28...that's a great thought but it didn't occur to me at the time I made the ressie. :(

Jel0511--I have actually stayed at the RPC before on a cash basis and we also honeymooned at the GF. I really enjoy the GF but the points are a lot. I appreciate your help though...thank you! Why wouldn't you go back (on a cash ressie, I mean...) I find that the GF is great change when you aren't in a DVC resort kinda mood. ;)

In order to rent points, there has to be availability at a DVC resort. From what I've read, there hasn't been much availability for points reservations between now and the end of December for some time. There are lots of people still on the wait lists.

If it makes you feel any better, IMHO, attempts to rent points at the time I assume you made your GF ressie would have been very frustrating and in the end, an exercise in futility.

Go and enjoy your GF stay! Don't worry about the points. You will still have many years to enjoy the DVC resorts.

Congratuations on your "new" addition. Hope you all enjoy the experience!

Why wouldn't I stay at GF RPC, let me count the ways... Well first, I wouldn't do it on points again, at almost 70 points a night during the week, and more than 100 for the weekend, just too much for me to justify it there. And if you look at the rates, I just don't think it's worth that kind of money. I liked the GF and will stay there again, but will do it in Sugar Loaf. I found the RPC staff to be VERY lacking and if I had been paying top dollar, I DEFINATELY would have complained. I much prefer the laid back atmosphere of the Poly concierge, and we're staying there again in Feb, paying cash.

I havent stayed at the GF but we have stayed at both the Poly Lagoon view Concierge level and the Beach Club Concierge(before the villias opened up) both on points (a whopping 604 points for the 9 days LOL)

Would I do it again...... maybe..... lol but only for a couple of days. Esp. the Poly.......... loved the view, the size of the rooms, the pool and the location!

I say go for it and have fun! :teeth:

I just want to encougage you. I was on the waitlist for the first week in December. Not for very long and every request has come through. It came in individual days but it came. I added 7 more days onto a 4 night poly stay. If I had to blow points I would at the poly. The relaxing atmosphere and pina coloadas are worth it!! Although anywhere you stay in the world will be Magical , especially with your new little one.
We are expecting and I can't wait to show him or her the WORLD and get a virgin pina coloada~as we are going to breastfeed.

Congrats again on your new addition.

Jane of the Jungle--CONGRATS! I hope you have the happiest pregnancy and healthiest baby!! :) This is such a special time--enjoy it! I am a little stressed about traveling with a baby but I know he's going to be a DVC addict before we know it! LOL! When are you due?

I actually just found out from member services (and I didn't know this....) that when you use points to stay at the GF concierge, you are automatically placed at the RPC. So this is good! I wanted to be in the main building. Member services has been, as always, very friendly and helpful with me!

Thanks for all the replies!:)

We are leaving Wednesday for just such a trip. We are staying in an OKW studio Wednesday night and an AKL concierge room Thurs Fri and Sat nights. Those weekend points are wildly high. Its like 220 points for those three nights. What is going to make it more expensive is that I am going to try to upgrade to a one bedroom suite for cash when I check in, I hope its available. They only make you pay the difference between the rack rates or something.

These were found, near expiring points that we needed to use and I have other family visiting at that time from New York, so it made sense. I could have rented the points and used the cash and probably pocketed near $1,000, but it just isn't worth the trouble.....especially when it forces me to take my first concierge trip.

Hey, if you get into a situation where you have to use them or lose them, I couldn't think of a better solution! Have fun

I think this idea is fine.
We are staying Poly Concierge in Jan, on points. It is costing us 190 points, which includes a Friday night. Points actually cost me about $5.55/pt, so this comes out to be the equivelent of $351.50/night. The weekday only equivelent would be $277.50/night. I find this rate to be more than competitive to the rack rates, and very reasonable overall.

In short, GO FOR IT, and enjoy yourself!!!...
