Hi all, not sure if this is in the right forum, but I'm curious how these DVC point charts work for Disney Cruse Line. It says a certain number of points for certain sailings and room types, but is that per person or per stateroom? Very confused :rolleyes1

Thank you. And then what, can you pay cash for the rest of the people in the room or no?
At least one must be paid for with points if booking through DVC. The others can be paid for with cash. Any cash portion is due in full at the time of booking.

The only exception to the one on points requirement is for the Member Cruises where they allow you to pay all cash.

And for others who may not be aware, only direct points or resale points bought prior to 2012 are eligible to trade for a cruise via DVC.

It's better to rent your points and pay for the cruise. Been there, done that. We will never use our points again for the cruise. If, for any reason, you have to cancel, the DVC points turn into Reservation points, and those are used on the hotel side of Disney, not the DVC villas. The "DVC" points are gone.

Agreed. I didn’t realize the point cost was per person; I thought it was at least on double occupancy. Definitely a horrible exchange!

Pete W. talks about this quite often. Until you get burned by DVC you don't realize the problem. We ended up with 808 Reservation points that had to be used by the end of August (we're September). Since we don't live in FL, we would never use them. Use'em or lose'em. Luckily my husband's son lives nearby and they used them up on weekend getaways.

😳😳😳 wow. That is awful. I’ll probably just pay out of pocket instead of burning/renting any points out because I always regret that and miss Disney World when I have to skip a year 😂 cruises have gotten wildly expensive though too on Disney Cruise Line. We are doing NCL Med Cruise 2025 so hopefully that will cure my cruise bug for a little, but I do love the DCL experience

Renting isn't bad at all. Our first and second rentals have gone thru without any problems. The third one is set for Sept. We have a HAL cruise set for 2024 to check them out and were looking at Princess and Seabourn for future cruises. Love DCL but need a break, and we want to go someplace new.

I was just looking into this for next Spring....and while I do know that it would just be easier to go through DVC, the more I research the better it is to just do some level of rental, or use the cruise swap option.

Just waiting to see what happens with an April trip with my son's family...if that gets moved until September, then we may just do a 3 night cruise in March or April instead!!!

Not trying to be a contrarian, but we did points earlier this month on the Wish and would not hesitate to do it on points again. We booked when they had the sale in December and it wouldn't have saved us any to rent the points. I have no problem with people that want to rent their points, I would rather just get everything taken care of in one phone call. We decided to go , called and was done in 15 mins. Didn't have to charge it, then make a rental arrangement or multiple arrangements then use that money to pay off the card and hope that all went well. The convenience is worth it to me. Also we had no problem with communication between DVC and DCL. Not discounting anyone else, just sharing our experience.

I agree with the rental thing vs just a simple transaction. I've rented out our points many, many times, and I'm not against it; sometimes I just don't want to deal with it though LOL. The other factor is the tax situation that you have to deal with on top of renting them out. That's why I'm just not interested in doing that for such a large number of points vs maybe renting out 100 points here or there.

I didn’t realize they ran sales for points…never looked closely…now, that might work!

This only is cheaper if you pay cash for the cruise and then rent verses use the points. I've never managed to not use the points. LOL

You are correct. For a 7-night Caribbean cruise in a stateroom class 4A (which we usually get) costs 620 pts for 2 people. Renting: 620 pts X $14 = $8680. The cash price was $6287.

The problem with using points comes in if you have to cancel. We all hope that doesn’t happen, but, it’s a real possibility.

We just booked 3 family cabins on the dream for our family. To use points would have been over 2,400 points (cat 4A). We only used 1255 points to rent out (they were all rented out within 2 weeks). also each cabin gets $175.00+ of ship board credit.
so by renting we saved over 1100 points and allowed 10 different families to enjoy DVC and possibly become members.
I don’t think I will ever do a point exchange again for the cruise. The exchange is horrible
But hey that is just me doing me, you do you and what works best for your situation. Either way we all get to cruise😁
