Ok, I am impatiently waiting my info pack from DVC. The guy on the phone said you could use points at the regular deluxe and moderate resorts. Our favorite resort is AKL. Does anyone know the points for this, or maybe other resorts?

Yes its very expensive though - point wise.

I am using my points for a stay in the tower at the Contemporary. It is costing me 200 points for 5 nights in value season. Sun-Thurs. Fri and Sat are more expensive.

For AKL during value season and NO Friday or Sat nights
29/night for pool
33/night for Savanna
38/night for deluxe pool
39/night for deluxe savanna
50/night for Kilimanjaro Club

Again these are during value season and weeknights. Weekends and other seasons are more expensive.

Plus unlike DVC resorts, they go up every year.

That is so disappointing!! If we had our way we'd say at AKL every time!

We spluged a couple of years ago and stayed concierge/Kilimanjaro Club at AKL. It was great.

However ... once you stay in a big ol' sprawling DVC villa, you'll wonder how you could ever go back to a hotel room - deluxe, moderate, whatever.

Trust me. ;)

We had 300 points in holding a few years ago and had to use them quickly. We stayed at AKL concierge and had a wonderful trip! I really wish the points were not so high to stay at non DVC resorts.

We used points at the CR and had a great time. If you have points to burn or can transfer them cheaply enough from another member, have fun going to the other non-DVC resorts. I don't think I'd ever use points for moderates (cash works fine there), but I might for a deluxe like the CR.

Same thing works for using points at DL hotels or the cruise. It costs a lot more points-wise vs cash. But if you have them, why not use them? You paid for them, whatever makes you happy.

Based on those numbers I don't find this so bad doing it Sun. - Thursday. After I post this I'll check prices through CRO for AKL. Lets assume $10 per point if you rented to make it easy. That would make a pool $290 Savannah $330 deluxe pool $380, deluxe savannah $390, Kilamanjaro Club $500. Those numbers don't sound all that crazy, I'll check it out and add it as an edit to my post. Now Saturday and Sunday are way out of wack so I won't even check those from a point standpoint.

Edit:
Ok, here we go numbers came from disney website and dates of Sept. 17th -Sept. 22nd which is a low season, I believe. pool view $256.40/night savannah $317.80 deluxe pool $333 deluxe savannah $390.20 Kilamanjaro Club $485.

Those numbers don't look too bad. Seems like the best "deal" is for the savannah view. I'd have to say, I would use my points this way if I was going Sun. - Thursday or any of those weekday nights and wanted to stay at AKL. OP, go for it, it isn't that big of a "loss" from a point/cash standpoint. Very surprising, I'm glad I ran some numbers. :thumbsup2

During Spring Break (Peak season) recently, we stayed in a Savannah View room at AKL for the two nights (Fri & Sat) prior to our DVC stay and were able to use our AP discount.

We paid $247.00 plus tax which took it to approximately $275.00 per night.

Other AP discount rates we were quoted for the same time (tax not included):

Std AKL - $166
Pool AKL - $192
Deluxe Savannah AKL - $327
Deluxe Pool AKL - $267
Concierge Savannah AKL - $422

Std WL - $166
Woods WL - $192
Concierge WL - $232

A Standard room at the Moderates was $110 per night with an AP discount.

I see an addon at the VAKL in your future! ;)

***DISCAIMER: Villa's at Animal Kingdom Lodge, although a distinct possibility, is just forum rumour and should be treated as such. ...but wouldn't it be great!

:woohoo: That would be AWESOME!!

Using your points outside of the WDW DVC or HH or Vero is usually not a good value. You can usually find a cheaper cash rate. Typically Disney values points outside of those resorts at $7.5 while at WDW DVCs they are valued around $11 + based upon rack rates.
