I am thinking on paying cash for my 2nd person and points for the 1st person on a 7 day cruise. I was wondering if anyone has done that before. How much do they charge you for the cash part. Say if my cruise total cash cost was 2200.00 including insurance and point per person are at 133 per person so a total 266 for 2 people not including insurance. Would they charge me 133 points and 1100.00 for the 2nd person? I guess my questions is how to they calculate the cash part?

If I were to take a cruise by myself using DVC points would they charge me double the points. ie 266 points?

If anyone has had any experience with this let me know.

Thanks

You will have to call MS to get the cash price. It is negotiated on an annual basis by DVC with DCL and it may be more or less than a TA (or DCL) is currently charging for the cruise.

Yes - if you occupy a cabin by yourself, you would pay "double" points. The points listed are per person and are based on 2 adults in the cabin.

The negotiated cash price is generally somewhat more than the comparable early booking discount rate. For example, a March spring break cruise might be 227 points per adult for a cat 11 and $1400 for one on points and one on cash. While the entire thing on cash might be $2000 total. What you should do is find out the specifics for your trip comparing just points to points plus cash to cash only. Also remember that there is an additional fee to book DCL through DVC, it's non refundable and ANY changes such as changing the second person, will result in an additional fee. That fee is currently $75 but apparently going to $95 in a few months. You should also know that the entire cash amount is due up front when going through MS where for a regular cash option, you only have to pay a deposit until 2-3 months prior to your travel when the total is due.
