Seems like a silly question but I've never used an old magic band before but with the discontinued free MBs coming up, it made me think. I have about 10 MBs "active" under MDE. Can I use any of those of any future trip without having to do anything extra? I did not see anywhere to designate them for a trip, I only saw the option to deactivate them, which made me guess they are all useable on any future trips. Is that true?

You can use any MagicBand linked to your MDE profile as long as it's marked as 'Active'.

Yes. If they are linked on your MDE they all are linked to your reservation. Just may have to get front desk to get them working as often they have issues either opening door or charging at parks.

Just make sure you do online check in and have pin set up and credit card attached to reservation. Then when you first go to your room stand outside door and open it with every band you want to use.

We routinely reuse our old MBs. We have found that if a band is not working when we first try it after arriving at the resort, we can deactivate it in MDE, then immediately reactivate it. This has worked every time without needing a trip to the front desk. YMMV.

I'm not sure I understand. Are you saying that if you do on-line check in, you probably won't need to go to the front desk? Or is there a good chance of you needing to go to the front desk anyways? If so, I'm not sure about the advantage of doing on-line check in.

If you check in online there is no need to go to the front desk.

What they are saying is make sure you attach a credit card and pin# to your profile so that you won't need to visit the front desk. In addition I think they are saying to be "safe" make sure to use each band on the door so it is fully "activated" for the current stay.

I guess I missed it, but when/where did it say no more free Magic Bands?

Announced by Disney in a Disney Parks Blog post in mid-June.
In 2021, we plan to unveil an innovative new offering as part of the My Disney Experience app that will bring features of a MagicBand to your smart devices, building on the app’s existing digital key feature. With this new offering on the horizon, we will be retiring our complimentary MagicBand distribution to Disney Resort hotel guests for new reservations with arrivals beginning Jan. 1, 2021. Disney Resort hotel guests will continue to have the option to purchase new MagicBands at a discount, and we’ll be introducing even more colors and designs featuring favorite Disney characters in the future.

Thanks Michael. I guess we need to buy smart phones for everyone in the group, I know my Grand Daughters will like a new phone....

I'll stick with magic bands, it just seems more convenient than whipping out my phone all the time. That said, it is nice to have the option to use the phone in case a magic band isn't working properly

If you do online check in you do not have to go to the front desk. What happens is that sometimes the magic bands don't work to open the door. We have had some of our groups work and others not.

It is also a good idea to deactivate the magic bands that are not going to be used.

Magic band batteries die, so the really old ones, the ones that don't have the puck, may have died.
