Using old magic bands?

We have the magic bands from our last trip. Will they automatically get us into our room? Or will we have to go to the front desk to get them re activated. Since Dis is now charging for new ones, not sure it’s worth buying new ones. Thanks

Any MagicBand that's marked as "Active" under MagicBands and Cards can be used for any upcoming trip. If they are more than 2 years old, they may no longer work for long range functions like automatic photo linking. All other features where you need to physically touch the MB to a reader will work indefinitely.

As mentioned, any and all bands associated with a given MDE account will work indefinitely for everything that truly matters. You do not have to do anything.

Nothing is stored ON the bands. They are merely keys to access your MDE account/profile. As such they are all interchangeable. All bands remain ACTIVE unless you personally go into your account and flip the switch to deactivate them. Deactivating a band does not delete it from your account, and the band can be reactivated at any time.

The previous is all true however we have found that time to time, and it seems a bit resort dependent, you might have to go to the front desk to get the magic band to work on your door which also ties to room charging. Most of the time they just work as long as they are active in your account but sometimes the resort needs to do something. I always try at that door first because I've also had the resorts make bands not work that were working.

Yup. That is definitely a thing.

It appears (based on my conversations with a couple of resort managers) that each resort has the option to limit the number of bands that will work at that resort. BC and YC always tend to use that option and limit each guest to only a single band. That way they can assure that resort guests aren't handing out their old bands to non-guests for access to Stormalong Bay. Other resorts generally don't use it, but it's there if they want to.

Interesting as I've used multiple bands while staying at BCV. Usually everything has worked fine there but one time it was really bad and I spent waaaayyyy to much time at that front desk.

And for me, I've never been able to use more than one at BCV. :) just shows how inconsistent things can be.
